4.0 out of 5 stars A nice little SF read, 25 Dec. 2014

This book had some great moments: I really felt for some of the characters, and got quite emotionally involved. In parts it was fabulous, and although in other parts it was less so I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great piece of sci-fi, 15 Dec. 2014

This is a great piece of science fiction: maybe in the top 20 of SF books you must read if you're a sci-fi fan. Some nice ideas, some fabulous characters, and at the end of what seemed like a very long book you're left with five or ten nagging questions about what happens to various characters next. I'm going to have to read the sequel.

If you're not a science fiction fan then I don't think you'll like this.

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read, 15 Dec. 2014

This is an interesting book, with a disappointing ending. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, some of whom I found extremely annoying. But it held my attention until the end, so for that it gets above average.

One of the greatest books ever written, this tale of wizards, men, elves, dwarves and hobbits is one you must read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stream of consciousness, 28 Aug. 2014

I'm not really a big fan of "stream of consciousness" novels where you're unsure what's real and what's not, and where anything can happen, but this book had such good reviews that I had to try it, as I've enjoyed other Gaiman books.

I'm afraid to say that I didn't really like this book much, but that it's one of the best of its type. I think this says more about me than about the book. If you like random stuff, or unlikable heroes, or the idea that your world is pointless then maybe you should read this book.

BBC iPlayer sometimes gets corrupted downloads and stops working. With a separate file manager for Kindle Fire you can browse the Android directory, remove the offending download and the problem is fixed. Essential Kindle app.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, 22 July 2014

This is a fun, easy to read, feel-good book. It's funny in places, with a dry sense of humour mostly but a few laugh out loud moments.

The author uses a few American words ("dove" instead of "dived"; "gotten" instead of "got") throughout the book, but I've seen enough American films to know what they mean. I look forward to the next Puddick novel!

Possibly the greatest book ever written. The device of the different narrators and the splendid badness of the count make for a great, thrilling read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good girly whodunnit, 17 May 2014

This review is from: The Back Road (Kindle Edition)
A good, fun murder mystery. I would classify this as "girly" because the main characters are female thirty-somethings who seem to spend a lot of time worrying about what people are thinking without actually asking them. There's murder, kidnap and intrigue and I was kept guessing until the end. Recommended.

Nothing could live up to the genius of Suarez's "Daemon" so inevitably this book comes across as slightly disappointing; but its concepts are brilliant as ever. As with "Daemon", this book portrays a believable future in which technology drastically alters the world.

Readable, and recommended, although if you're a grammar nerd you might struggle a bit with the occasional mistake that completely spoils the scene.
