4.0 out of 5 stars Great metal from UK, 27 Dec. 2012

This album is not for the faint of heart... If you're ok with the occasional (or not) ear thumping, then give it a try.

Melodies on this album are very dark but broodingly melodic.

I liked the novel so much I read it over a weekend. Characters were interesting and the plot was exciting

These are ok quality, but don't really fit all that well. The ties on the fabric are pretty useless. Rear seat covers are way too large for my corsa model B, but the front ones fit ok, if only there were better instructions and they had decent ties they would look ok!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth your consideration, 26 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Bass Chalice (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of reggae, then 10ft ganja plant are worth a look. Tunes are packed to the max with great drums, basslines, guitar and electronic licks.. and the odd throw-in of singing too.

The album is a great starting point for checking out this band, the first three tracks (blood money, Engine Trouble, Last dance) killing it from the go. Other highlights i'd pick out are 'To Each' and 'Deliver us Jah'.

10ft are no gimmick, despite their obviously tounge in cheek name, and when it comes down to it they deliver some awesome dub-infused roots reggae. Good for late night relaxation or for some summery tunes in the car!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the lot, 24 Feb. 2010

Had no problems with these whatsoever until I accidentally dunked one earphone into coffee. Before that, they had good quality sound and are the better of three sets of earphones I've tried. Have just ordered another set.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the strongest set of songs from Jr Gong, 15 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Mr. Marley [Us Import] (Audio CD)
While this album will satisfy most ardent fans of "Jr Gong", it's not perhaps the best selection that showcases his talents.

The overall sound I would say comes across as juvenile. This is partly due to the high-pitched and less powerful sound with which Damian delivers his toasting vocals. The backing tracks are a little insubstantial also, which leaves the sound really loose. It also sounds a great deal like most Dancehall Reggae, which is not what the "Jr Gong" really stands for. His later albums have a strong individual mark and really push the genre of Roots Reggae and Dancehall beyond their previous limits. This album is clearly laid within those old boundaries.

A couple of Bob Marley covers brighten up the album as do guest appearances from Stephen Marley, who is almost the ever-present backup to Damian on his albums to date.

Still, songs such as "Love and Unity" and "Old War Chant" have aspects which show how Damian would progress in later albums into the mature, outspoken voice of the people that he has become.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard hitting and uplifting, this is Ky-mani's strongest collection yet!, 15 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Radio [Us Import] (Audio CD)
What Ky-mani achieves with this album is astounding. Previous albums have shown him to be a strong song-writer, but with this material he melds his Reggae roots with a mix of RnB and Hip Hop in a vibe which is entirely his own genius.

Songs like "I'm back" , "Hustler" and "Ghetto Soldier" are rousing shout-em-ups befitting of the Bob Marley legacy. Other excellent numbers are "Jezebele", "I pray" and "One Time"

While many of the songs on the album couldn't really be considered 'Reggae' in a traditional sense (except perhaps "Hustler", with its characteristic Reggae off-beat guitar strikes), they don't sound out of place on Reggae play-lists, and yet still manage to sound authentic and original.

Lastly, if you've never heard Ky-mani sing, then it's here that he's outclassed himself most with a mature sound, featured up front in the mixes, and unashamedly bold and evocative.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 5-star Reggae Album, 14 Feb. 2010

This review is from: Mind Control (Audio CD)
What can be said of this album except that every song shines with epic production, song-writing and pure reggae Irie vibes?

A highly individualistic artist, who's manner of song-writing and singing has classic written all over it. Not unlike his father in this respect. There's always a relaxed, swaying soulfulness to Stephen's voice, which at times can be raspy but sweet altogether.

The album overall is a great addition to anyone's collection, and is peppered with the sounds of Jamaican culture right through to the heavy use of Jamaican Patois in "The traffic Jam". Those not familiar with it will take several listens required before you'll know exactly what's being said!

Other highlights I would pick out are "Hey Baby" - a sweet and yearning love song. "Lonely Avenue"- a reggae-style cover of a Ray Charles classic. "Inna di Red", "Mind Control" and "Fed Up" equally as great as the other songs.

If you buy this disk, you'll not regret the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine selection of songs with a Irie vibe!, 14 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Awake (Audio CD)
I wasn't sure what to expect from this Marley son, but I was pleasantly surprised by the mature song-writing which is exhibited on this album. Overall the album has a positive vibe, with great melodies to carry the pertinent message of his lyrics.

Demonstrative of this are the songs "Boom Draw" and "Violence in the Streets (-feat' Damian Marley)". Julian proves he can write a meaningful song, keeping the listener interested with the melody and the backing jam.

Other highlights include "Stay With Me", "Awake", "Things Ain't Cool" and "Jah Works". The songs each have a vibe of their own and stand up well in the collection making it worthy of the 5 stars.

I would envisage this album being accessible to most people, those who maybe aren't serious reggae fans, but equally a decent addition to the collection for those who are.

A highly listen-able album!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, 13 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Overall, the book isn't too bad if you're just looking for a general guide to the songs. Expect to have to use your ear.

A few specific irritations are:
a) Some songs are transposed for no good reason
b) Some chords are simplified and miss the nuances in the music
c) No indication whatsoever of the timings, beyond 'hanging' the chord above the lyrics, and this is applied inconsistently.

One plus is that the book itself is decent quality, and bound in such a way that it should take some use and abuse and still hold together after some time.
