. This is a play by numbers sort of film with the usual stereotype characters Jason Isaacs plays the villianous Prophet Josiah, Ed Harris is the eccentric Marshal and the hero or heroine is Sarah (January Jones). The plot is rather straightforward Josiah kills Sarah's husband, rapes her and threatens to steal her land. Sarah responds as only a gun toting female would do, in the best Clint Eastwood fashion she embarks on a lust for revenge.
For lovers of westerm films it is gratifying that they are still made. For Western buffs it will be an okay watchable kind of movie but not very memorable.

being a fan of Stephen King ( a Constant Reader as he calls us) I look forward with pleasure to his new releases. Stephen has written great horror stories so it is disappointing that I would grade this as a bit disappointing. The tale mainly involves a minister Charles Jacob and Jamie Morton whose paths frequently cross. At first Jacobs is the ideal minister but following the death of his family he changes into what I would describe as the prototype "mad scientist" performing so called miracle cures with the aid of "secret electricity". Jamie is rescued from drug addiction and finds himself being continually drawn into Jacobs world. The story seems to plod along at a slow pace with few hints as to Jacobs ultimate aim. We know his obsession with electricity will be at the fulcrum of his final experiment. Believing in Stephen King I thought this was a slow burner building into a cataclysmic finale but instead what an anti - climax. The final confrontation is more like a scene from a Frankestein movie with storms and crashing electricity but all this leads to is a not too pretty vision of the afterlife.
All in all I felt somewhat let down - I don't think this is one of King's best but I suppose he can be forgiven this time !!

I have said it all before but Anne Murray just makes great music and this CD is no different. Mellow, country or upbeat this album oozes class. It is hard to understand how her popularity has diminished. From the opening track it is clear that she is on top form. Personal likes are "I can see Arkansas" and "If I ever see you again" - as a bonus Anne reprises this song in French. If you are a fan of Anne's you will need no reminding of her talent. Another great to add to my collection. Highly recommended.

Not the easiest book I have ever read but it certainly makes a great impression. The story features Dorrigo Evans, an Australian Doctor, who moves from the tragedy of an adulterous love affair to imprisonment on the Burma Death railway and finally a return to a rather dysfunctional civilian life. The action moves from past to present and can be confusing at times. However the descriptive narrative , especially of the treatment meted out by the Japanese, is very moving but quite horrific at times. I would describe this book as a "tour de force" and would highly recommend it

I have been an avid fan of Ellory since reading Candlemoth and believe I have managed to read all his books. In my opinion he is one of the best thriller writers around with an ability to create deep and profound characters. With the exception of Det john Cassidy all other characters seem one dimensional caricatures . The main character Elliot goes from being slow and dull witted to being a psychopath managing to evade capture as he embarks on a murderous campaign across Arizona. Due to an identity fault his half brother Clay also follows the same journey managing to be in the same vicinity of each slaying. Each incident seems contrived with only Det Cassidy beginning to cast doubts on Clay's guilt.
One of my main criticisms is the detailed description given to each execution and in particular the brutal rape of Candace is not easy to read. Does it add to the story - I don't think so - just gratuitous.

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner, 14 Oct 2014

A first class Detective thriller with, believe it or not, not a trace of the supernatural which normally infiltrates any King novel. story concerns retired Detective Bill Hodges who is "haunted" by his failure to solve the Mercedes case. A multiple homicide of a hit and run involving a Mercedes car. The murderer Brady Hartsfield decides to taunt Ex Det Hodges with a series of e-messages whilst planning his next massacre. For Hodges the race is on to identify and bring to justice his "tormentor".
This is a taut thriller with Hodges painstakingly unearthing evidence while the mental state of Brady Hartsfield is slowly disintegrating.
A brilliant tale with an "edge of the seat" ending. King has landed another winner - highly recommended.

Another superb album from Anne containing country, ballads and rock tracks. It is hard to understand why she has not had more success with this. "Wrong end of the Rainbow" and "The Final Say" are up there with her best recordings and the title track "You Will" is a classic upbeat number. I was not disappointed with any of the songs with superb backings. If you are an Anne fan (or not) "You Will" love this. Highly recommeded

Once again RJ Ellory proves his merit in the field of high standard thrillers. This story concerns the discovery of the body of a girl who disappeared over 20 years ago and the subsequent murder investigation. There are a few twists along the way, as one would expect, with an unexpected ending. My only criticism is that the undercurrent influence of WW2 and Vietnam is perhaps a little overcooked and begins to distract the reader after a while. Nonetheless fans of Ellory will appreciate and enjoy this novel.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed books 1 & 2 it was inevitable I would want Book 3. I was not disappointed, this is a brilliant crime story interwoven with political and big business intrigue. Lund continues to fight her own family demons whilst being involved with a "kidnapping" which eventually leads to a child serial killer. This is as good and perhaps better than the others with a very dramatic ending. This was a fantastic trilogy and I would highly recommend.

Still reading this book but so far it is an absolute cracker. Story begins with a jail break and continues with the "dogged" Sheriff on the Outlaws trail. Considering this book was free on Kindle I can only recommend it to any western devotee. Will definitely be looking for more of this series.
