Intel i7-950 Quad-Core Processor (3.06 GHz, 8MB Cache, Socket 1366)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant processor, 15 Feb 2012
When used with the Antec Kuhler watercolling solution, this processor rarely gets above 25°C in normal use, and over-clocking doesn't get it above 40°C. Seems capable of handling most tasks thrown at it, 3DMark vantage got it to stutter at around 2500 simultaneous operations. I haven't found a game yet which it can't handle and photoshop runs like a dream.

Western Digital 1TB SATA 6GBps Power Saving Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Green
Western Digital 1TB SATA 6GBps Power Saving Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Green

1.0 out of 5 stars Unsuitable, 15 Feb 2012
This device proved unsuitable for any of the systems I have. The spin down results in RAID cards not recognising the drive and reporting a fault, and many of the motherboards I have did not recognise the drive. Those that did, the OS failed to recognise once it was booted. This wasn't the only drive that did this - I believe a whole batch was faulty. Dreadful experiences, I shall stick to Caviar Black from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Value!, 6 Feb 2012

This is about the only SATA/IDE combo card that I have found (and I've tried more than a dozen) that allows you to hot-swap both IDE and SATA devices. Why is this important? Well, if you use a HDD caddy for your data drives, you'll want to be able to swap them over whilst the system is running.
And at the price they were offered on here, you can't lose. £6.65 when I got it! You can pay seven times as much and not get the flexibility this offers.
I had no trouble installing it under Windows 7 - it autodetected and downloaded the drivers from the web within two minutes.

The only slight foible the card has is that during a hot-swap, the system will completely pause for about 10 seconds whilst the drive mounts.

Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z68XP-UD3 iSSD Motherboard (Rev 1.0)
Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z68XP-UD3 iSSD Motherboard (Rev 1.0)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast, well built and versatile., 6 Feb 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a cracking little offering from Gigabyte. Fast, versatile, plenty of options for expansion.
The only cons I found was that the iSSD set up is a little complex - you have to RTFM and follow it to the letter, and that Windows 7 was a bit fussy as to the installation source - you MUST have a SATA optical drive to install from DVD; an IDE device on a PCI expansion card just won't work no matter how you f6 it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, expensive, cold-swap only, 6 Feb 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This device is very expensive for the level of functionality offered. True, it allows SATA, IDE and eSATA, with RAID capability, but the devices cannot be hot-swapped, so it's useless for e.g. caddy systems.
The 4 Port SATA PCI Expansion Card & IDE VIA VT6421a chipset card from Pluscom was only £6.65 and provides everything this one does, bar eSata, and you can hot swap to your heart's content.

Be sure you know what you need it to do before investing in it!

This review is from: Pikmin (Wii) (Video Game)
A gentle and pleasing game, addictive and frustrating in equal measure. The control system is good, given the versatility that it needs to have, but slightly frustrating at times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative and interesting., 21 Oct 2011

Apart from the slight habit the author has of repeating a near identical concept time and again, this is a very enjoyable read. It explains a great deal of the human condition, as explored by the visual artist, as a natural function of the human brain. One could say that the human condition IS the human mind! By extension, the same quest for meaning has occupied artists, philosophers, leaders, religious seekers and the common man for hundreds of millennia. This exploration of love and other emotions is, of course, by no means confined to non-scientists and the research done by neuroscientists is yielding results stunningly parallel to that of the artists.

I've just finished it, and it is amazing. A very good book. I've found it most enlightening. A natural practice which will connect you to the living essence.

Unseen Academicals: A Discworld Novel
Unseen Academicals: A Discworld Novel
by Terry Pratchett
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £5.67

4.0 out of 5 stars A familiar work., 21 Oct 2011
A slightly more philosophical work from PTerry, with only a nod at the religious shenanigans of the Discworld. Humour is plenty, and the bizarre commonplace, but I feel this work is more familiar than any of his others, even to those of us who don't like foot-the-ball.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why have I gone so long without reading it!, 21 Oct 2011
A wonderful collection of short stories which paint a picture of a bygone Britain. Fantastically well written, I'd recommend this book to anyone. Why have I gone so long without reading it!
