5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining tale, 29 May 2015

This review is from: The Humanist (Kindle Edition)
Compelling little crime novella from ace audiobook reader William Roberts. Good plot which moves swiftly on a credible premise and a believable central character in the shape of a local news reporter. The dialogue - often the downfall of a first novel - is totally natural and underpins the book: fruits of a lifetime creating speaking individuals on tape!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best sports books ever!, 29 Sept. 2014

This review is from: Flanagan's Run (Paperback)
One of the finest sports books ever written. If you run, or want to run, or are preparing for a marathon, or half-marathon, or just want to be inspired (whatever sport you do) and helped over some of the challenges and rough spots - read this book. Tom McNab has spent his life at the highest level of sport and yet is also a compelling and very funny writer. Why isn't this in the best-seller lists year after year - and especially at the time of the London Marathon - I will never know! So - read it, or listen to Rupert Degas' delightful reading of it on audible. I have been through it at least three times in my gym over the years, and chuckled each time; and now bought the book for my father-in-law, who went silent during the three days on holiday that it took him to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very clear and measured course - no jargon!, 29 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The case for Mindfulness practice as a major help in dealing with not just with depression, pain or addiction but also clarifying the way we live our lives is now very widely accepted. Chaskalson is an expert with real experience in the field and it really shows in this book. If you have heard the term Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or its variants and wonder what it is all about, I can not imagine a more transparent introduction - free of jargon! The sceptic will question whether it is really possible to make major changes and advances through a book rather than directly with a teacher, but I am becoming convinced that Mindfulness in Eight Weeks is the next best thing. I have read it through and at no point was I unclear about what was being proposed or suggested. I was also entertained and informed by bits of information which underline and support Chaskalson's approach. The big challenge is the next step - to put this eight week course into practice, week by week. That is up to the individual! Will I stay the course? I hope so. I should. This introduction can't be clearer or more encouraging!

The last Inspector Singh! And one of the best - as anyone who knows India will agree. Will Ms Flint produce some more please - and will Jonathan Keeble record it for availability on audible?

Mercenaries (Unabridged)
Mercenaries (Unabridged)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating history well read, 8 Oct. 2011
I found The Conquest Trilogy a fascinating tale of a part of European history that I didn't know, and that I imagine few do despite the recent interest in the Normans and their heritage beyond 1066. Ludlow (Donachie) tells the story of the Hauteville family from their relatively humble beginnings to their dominant role in the complex politics of in South Italy and Sicily in the 11th century. I listened to the audiobook read by Jonathan Keeble who, apart from some wayward pronunciations, read with his usual high level of skill, giving the 12 brothers just enough characterisation without going over the top, yet making clear distinctions between the main figures of William, Robert and Roger Hautville. He is admirably adept with the many other key people in this tale, from popes and slippery Lombards to devious Byzantine and Saracen generals. As soon as I finished Mercenaries, I moved to Warriors and then on to Conquest. Not a literary gem, but certainly a gripping historical novel compellingly read by the experienced Keeble.

Amazon Kindle Keyboard Lighted Leather Cover, Steel Blue (only fits Kindle Keyboard)

4.0 out of 5 stars Kindle leather cover, 28 Sept. 2010
A good product. Handsome. Durable.
The light works quite well, but it doesn't quite get to the bottom of the Kindle page as strongly as the rest.
Nevertheless, it is possible to read relatively comfortably in the dark.
