5.0 out of 5 stars ETHEREAL WITH FIRE., 16 Mar 2009
'Dance hall at Louse point' is perhaps one of my favourite albums of Polly's! It's a dark-horse album which the fans may have overlooked, so in the light of this, i was really excited to learn of a new album with John Parish called 'A Woman a Man Walked By'!
Polly has racked up so many albums with so many feelings and emotions that i was interested to see which route I would be taken this time!
With John Parish providing the music Polly has written some of her best and most expressive lyrics to date, combine this with her many personas which she adopts on practically every track and you have an amazing album!
Polly's albums have always been musical alchemy for me, give each song time and it becomes precious to you! This album needs a few listens, with the listener in different moods, to really come alive!
All of Polly's work has a door which you have to really push against for it to open, but once inside the room is beautiful, vicious, angry, delicate and ethereal.
This album is yet another great work from Polly & John and will sit well with "most" fans who want some grit back after the dream world of 'White Chalk'.
Recommended, in fact essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars BAUER IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!!!!!, 11 Mar 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have seen the first 14 episodes of this season & i can tell you it is exceptional!
With great action, great scripts and great acting this is one of the, if not THE best season of 24 so far!?
I won't give anything away but there are twists and turns and i guarantee you will be biting your nails.
Out go the useless side stories and in come coherent, relevant ones that help to make this season a political thriller as well as an action packed drama.
The wait was worth it and seems to have lit a fire underneath the makers of the show as this season is amazing.
Recommended essential viewing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF . . ., 9 Jan 2009
This review is from: Angel-A [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
This is a lesson in "less is more" film-making. Luc Besson once again gives us a quirky unusual take on life and presents us with Andre, the born loser, and Angela, the woman who helps him out in his hour(s) of need.
Brilliantly paced acted and shot, this film will captivate you from the start, if only to discover what or who Angela is!
Rie Rasmussen who plays Angela is excellent in the role and adds humour and mystery and a gorgeous body to the monochrome world.
Don't be put off by negative comments on the ending as, in my opinion, it adds weight & gravitas, sealing the film with a romantic charm.
Jamel Debbouze as Andre is, as usual, excellent and is given a more serious role than we're used to seeing him in.
Ethereal and beautiful.
French film-making at it's best.
Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LITTLE GREY CELLS ARE BACK IN ACTION!!!!!!!!!, 10 Oct 2008
Poirot is back and in 4 high quality episodes of mystery and intrigue.
These new episodes are filled with great direction and style and are very strong stories. The 4th disc features APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH and is the best version of this mystery i have seen, filled with great actors and lovely locations.
All in all these 4 stories are some of the best Poirot's so far and you'd be mad to miss them.
Let's hope David Suchet get's to film the remaining few.
Pauly.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE SPORTS PAVILLION . . . DON'T GO IN . . ., 19 Sep 2008
In the book Poirot doesn't appear till the last third of the book and the first murder is a shooting, so the story has been tweaked to bring Hercule into the story much earlier as a friend of one of the School mistresses. The murder weapon is now a javeline (macabre or what) and one of the characters has been removed from the story altogether.
It was written by Mark Gattiss of LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN fame and his quirky and dark mind has made this into a great film.
The book is so complex that it's hard to keep up with the characters and situations but this has simplified it all and made it stronger than the book in my opinion.
NOT TO BE MISSED.

5.0 out of 5 stars MORE!!!!!!!! MORE!!!!!!!!!! MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 15 Sep 2008
Poirot is always a treat to watch and Mrs McGinty's dead is one of the best stories in the canon.
This episode is stylishly filmed and the quality of the acting and screenplay are excellent.
The direction is superb and David Suchet brings more qualities to the role the longer he plays it.
Some people may disagree but i prefer these newer episodes to the older ones, and Ariadne Oliver is a great foil to Poirot's seriousness, note the scene in which she accidentally throws an apple core at Poirot himself.
I can't wait to see if David manages to film the whole Poirot canon, but in the meantime i'm thoroughly enjoying what remains of the stories.
10/10.
