3.0 out of 5 stars Looks good.....,but, 22 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First of all this fire looks great, the flames look amazing with the lights off and if it wasn't for two reasons I would have given it 5 stars but, considering it's a fire this is one area in which it sadly lacks. It doesn't heat the room up but that maybe just the way my room is set up, opened planned downstairs. The heat comes from the top and because heat rises it means that the warmth this fire does produce goes up towards the ceiling and then up the stairs leaving the main room fairly chilly. I've resorted to using a convector heater to actually heat the room when it's really cold and that heater warms the room within minutes. Secondly it's quite noisy, it is after all a fan heater but with the tv and cinema kit up and running I can live with the noise. I'm not sure if my ones faulty or not but the flames are static for the first couple of minutes before they kick in so I would be interested to hear if anyone else has this happen. 3 stars because it does look great but it might have worked better if the heat came from underneath rather than the top

5.0 out of 5 stars Why walk when you can bounce?, 28 Sep 2013
The best trainers I have ever bought, you don't walk you bounce because of the 4 'springs' on the heel. Typical Nike quality and extremely comfortable, in fact I feel like walking round the block again! I have no hesitation in recommending these, just need odor eaters to avoid the dreaded inevitability. Superb and not only that, they look good too

5.0 out of 5 stars Now got a happy cat!, 7 Sep 2013
Cassie is an indoor cat and so I guess it was me that bought a flea into the house. Noticed her constantly scratching and getting irritated a few days ago and after getting a few bites myself was horrified to find loads of the sods crawling through her fur. Ordered Indorex for the house but needed something to remove them from my lovely cat so got these. Wow!, got one down her without too much trouble and 15 minutes later they were falling off of her and dying. She ran about a bit but quickly settled down and I saw loads of them crawling out of her fur trying to get away but unable to jump and just staggering around dying (hopefully in agony). Going to blitz the house once the Indorex arrives to kill off any that escaped and in the meantime vacuuming excessively. I feel so guilty that my cat got fleas in the first place but at least know I know that just one of these tablets will kill them off. I now have a very happy cat who now is catching up on a lot of missed sleep due to these little gits. Highly recommended, very very effective and and worth the price

5.0 out of 5 stars How can it be this good!, 22 July 2013

This review is from: Hearts And Knives (Audio CD)
From the brilliant opening track 'Never Enough' this is pure Visage. After the disappointing beat Boy album 29 years ago, yep..29 years this is a stunning return to form,I just didn't expect it to be this good but I'm pleased to say that Visage are back at their absolute best. Can't stop playing it, it's a superb album

5.0 out of 5 stars Re submitted review, 31 May 2013

My first (now removed) review stated that Hi De Hi was great while Simon Cadell was in it and that after his departure the series took a major nose dive so much so that I originally said that I was treating all the Clive Dempster episodes as extras. This was based just on my opinion of watching the original run during the 80's and taking an instant dislike to the changes the series had to make. I've now re watched the entire series and have completely changed my mind. With Cadells departure the series had to adapt and it succeeded brilliantly. Throughout the complete ( and it IS complete..there are NO missing episodes) run the overall quality only dips once or twice and even in these few instances the episodes are still fun to watch. This is a brilliant series and at this price definatly well worth the money. The Boxset arrived a week ago and after a weekend blitz I've started my second run through already. I do prefer the Fairbrother episodes but I was wrong to dismiss the others as extras. I was always a fan of the first 5 series and thanks to this Boxset I'm now a fan of the entire run.

4.0 out of 5 stars Proper 3D on the blu ray version, 21 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Amazon have for some reason listed the same set of reviews for this recent 2012 blu ray edition as the original 2009 DVD version. I just want to point out that the inferior red/green glasses are with the old DVD edition. This Blu ray features the proper high definition 3D that requires a 3D TV. I bought the DVD release a few years ago and the tinted glasses obviously ruin the overall picture quality...,so much so that I preferred watching it in standard 2D. This updated release on blu ray shows the 3D off to spectacular effect with rich full colour and objects flying out of the screen. Some of the effects are done just to show off but overall it's a fun film that can now finally be enjoyed in proper 3D not in a green/ red mess. Avoid the DVD version, Amazon need to separate the two sets of reviews

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor sound, 11 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Capricorn One [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
My copy carries the 'ITV DVD' logo on the top left corner of the front case (even though its blu ray!). The picture is superb but the sound quality on certain scenes is extremely bad, most noticeably during the astronauts being told that they aren't going to Mars. I have a £1000 hi-fi surround system and this is the only disc I've had problems with. It's still a brilliant film though

I Managed to get this for under a fiver and ignored the negative comments and enjoyed it. It's not that bad and despite the criticism it's fun to play. Ok it could've been a lot better but at that price I've no complaints

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Subject To Date, 24 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've always been fascinated by Jack the Ripper and of the crimes he committed without really knowing anything of the victims or how many he actually killed ...which to this day is still debatable. Having been brought up on seeing various movies claiming to be the definitive version and all varying widely off the mark as I now know, I wanted a factual account of the events and made this the first book on the subject that I bought (over a year ago now...this is a belated review but allows me to compare it to other books) and it's unquestionably one of the best. The writing is superb and takes you on a mentally stimulating picture of victorian London and of the hardship the residents of the East End had to endure on a daily basis. The facts given about each murder are presented in such a way you will not be able to put the book down - I read the whole thing in two days. Philip Sugden waits until the end to go into who he thinks is the most likely suspect (in his opinion) therefore leaving the rest of the book to present the facts as they should be read allowing the reader to make up his or her own mind. After reading this I think Martha Tabram should be included along with the canonical five and have my own reasons for including her. That's the best thing about this book - everyone will come away with an unbiased opinion of their own based on the facts that this brilliant book places before them. Highly recommended and having bought further books on the subject it remains the most impressive one I've read. It's also one of only a few books that shows a map of the area which you can refer back to; extremely helpful especially when reading about the night of Sept 30th. Why other books fail to include this simple (and obvious) visual reference escapes me - many books say this happened there then he went here via this way before turning up that way and then going back this way and he probably turned into this street without giving the reader any idea of where things were happening. After reading the stories of each victim and feeling that I've got to know a lot about them through the narrative of the book - they were innocent women after all, forced by desperation to walk the streets through no choice of their own just to get a bed for the night, this book shows to the reader the full horror of what Jack the Ripper did (showing photos of the victims taken at the mortuary and in the case of Mary Jane Kelly graphically showing the full savagery of the person the police were dealing with). The fact that nobody to this day knows his identity is just one reason for the continued fascination of something that happened over 120 years ago. If only Albert Cadosch had looked over the fence when he heard that thump history may have been re written.
