Having always been interested in the hunt for OBL, as well as having a great intrigue towards the world of intelligence and surveillance, I picked up this book with high expectations. The author Peter Bergen did not fail to deliver. It was well researched, completely compelling and delivered in all respects. This is a must for anyone mildly interested in this matter. I would recommend reading Anthony Summers The Eleventh Day first. This gives you an unprecedented account of the planning behind 9/11, the governments failure to heed certain warnings as well as the utter destruction this inexplicable act caused, and sets you up nicely for the ten years that followed in which Bergen has painstakingly explored.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 25 April 2013

Having seen the Steve McQueen film many times I was very much looking forward to learning more about the aftermath of this great escape. The book started off well however soon became very difficult to read and follow. Not from a conventional point of view I might add (this book is far from filled with verbiage). It was simply the vast amount of German people that the book covers in each chapter. This led to name overload (which doesn't help when they're all German)and made it extremely difficult keeping track of who's who. The frustration of having to keep going back to refer to previous sections boiled over and I gave up at chapter eight.

3.0 out of 5 stars A slight disappointment in comparison to its predecessor, 4 Jan. 2013

Having been greatly impressed with the first book i was expecting more of the same when i purchased this sequel. It started off well retelling many a story and anecdote of the authors time serving in Belize. As others have stated though it just seemed to get a tad monotonous after a while. I nearly gave up during the second third of this book but stuck with it in the end. Don't get me wrong its hilarious in parts but I would have perhaps liked to have seen a little more substance to the book as well. There are also occasions in which the author arguably goes into far too much detail on the intricacies of signalling which went way over my head on a number of occasions. That said though, overall it is a good read and refreshing to see an ex squaddie not using his book as an outlet to belittle members of other services.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent account, 24 Dec. 2012

Not the easiest book to read at times with paragraph length sentences. However if you can get your head around this and the unnecessary verbiage you will find an extremely insightful account of Operation Valkrie.

As soon as I installed the app I started getting all kinds of virus warnings. I immediately removed the app from my Kindle.

Avoid the app

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 16 Dec. 2012

From the moment I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. Many WW2 books are overloaded with unnecessary detail and verbiage and it makes a pleasant change to read one that isn't.

This book is straight the point and a great insight into what happened to those that were rightly held accountable after the war had come to a conclusion.

A great insight into the day to day runnings of a professional football club but my god does the author need to keep his ego in check.

A great insight into the thoughts and feelings of a truly brave young soldier on the front line told from his memoirs at the time and accounts in later life.

If WW1 is of interest to you then this is a must. A snip at only £0.98

2.0 out of 5 stars AVERAGE, 10 Dec. 2012

An average account of The Third Reich which at times got a little bogged down with exact date and time specifications as well as the tactical elements of World War Two on both fronts. If this isn't your interest then this book probably isn't for you.

That said though, it's still readable and for the price you can't have too many complaints
