3.0 out of 5 stars The more things change etc., 12 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
It's like the Sunday Time Rich List had a lovechild with Hello magazine - a look at the lives and lifestyles of the super rich, but without much of a moral point taken.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mmmm, 12 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Half interesting, half overdone theatricality - and it feels way, way too long. Is that the author's fault, or the editor's? You'd think that he/she would be pressing the author to be clearer, to focus the argument. Or perhaps they felt that never mind the quality, feel the width...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 12 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
We follow American infantry officer Felix Sparks from Sicily, to Anzio, Southern France and then into the Reich itself, with hard fighting and some staggering casualty figures. And the culmination comes with their arrival at Dachau..
A great addition to WW2 literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating study, 12 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A well-written and comprehensive study of the first 12 years of the Soviet 'regime change' of Eastern Europe, 1944-1956.
I enjoyed her earlier book 'Gulag', and she brings her clear eye to bear here too. Utilising newly-accessible Russian sources, she expertly mixes the facts and statistics with the personal and human stories. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new viewpoint on the causes of WW1, 12 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A very interesting book, which which brings a new focus to the question of who was primarily to blame for the outbreak of WW1. I'm not sure that I agree with Clark's thesis re Germany, but he makes a strong case, buttressed by in-depth research from new or overlooked sources.
