Mind Power and Healthy Eating : The Art of Losing Weight and Staying Healthy
Mind Power and Healthy Eating : The Art of Losing Weight and Staying Healthy
by Josephine Spire
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.98

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, 4 Feb. 2016
I have survived for years on the pizza and ice cream diet (that with glasses of cava, better than champagne any day) and have always had a deep-seated belief that diet was really a question of mind over matter.

The mind is, as Josephine Spire makes clear in her highly original and entertaining book, the smart device that, when honed, sharpened, and formatted, guides you to eat right – and when you eat right, you feel good, don’t over-eat, feel healthy and live a fuller, happier life.

Forget fad diets, exercise regimes invented by psychopaths and send of for “Losing Weight and Staying Healthy.” Delicious

5.0 out of 5 stars A Question of Fate, 3 Feb. 2016

The secret of a great love story is that the lovers are drawn together like magnets, then torn apart by circumstances. Or, as the Greeks would say: Fate. Orpheus and Eurydice were meant for each other, but they had to go through Hell (literally) to be together.

Ameerah Arrowood in Rebekkah Ford’s complex and moving paranormal novel “Ameerah” suffers a similar fate. Adopted by the dark spirits after being murdered in an insane asylum, Ameerah gleefully possesses the souls of wastrel, self-indulgent, duplicitous humans - of which, in her human incarnation, she knew only too well.

Why her parents betrayed Ameerah as a teenager continues to haunt her. To find out, she enlists the help of the abstruse spirit Derek – a being halfway across the Rubicon void between paradise and hades. Can Ameerah find redemption, reclaim her lost soul and find a way back to the lower world to save the one great love she left behind?

Opening in 1925, as Ms Ford takes her readers on a journey between the past and present, between heaven and hell, we are invited to take a closer look at good and evil, the righteous and the soulless, until we take a closer look at ourselves – the point of all good literature.

Stupid Cupid: A Laugh Out Loud Romantic Comedy
Stupid Cupid: A Laugh Out Loud Romantic Comedy
by Sharon Karaa
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Quixotic Quest for Love, 25 Jan. 2016
It is not easy writing a comedy romance – just as many Hollywood romcoms fail as succeed – but with her light touch and clean lean style, Sharon Karaa touched my funny bone and I was surprised to hear myself laughing out loud as I read Annabelle Pearson’s quixotic quest for love.

Annabelle is - finally - in love. Nobody knows about this wonderfully change in her life, especially not the dashing romantic lead Nicholas Nattrass (that’s not mattress, by the way, that’s in you own mind). From this new vantage point, the dream oasis of love, Annabelle starts to have visions that belong in stories from the Brothers Grimm, a parade of surreal characters passing through her life, including Cupid seen drawing his bow ready to let fly his dart into the pumping heart of Mr Nattress.

What can she do to save him? Why handbag him, of course, Thatcher style, almost killing the messenger of love and creating the need for a quick costume (and personality) change: Annabelle slipping metaphorically into the skin of Cupid to save his life and continue her hilarious quest.

Clever, funny, witty, I finished the book before bed, dreamed I was on a Metro train hurtling underground and woke with a smile on my lips.

Excellent intro to art and artists, but written essentially for children and young adults in a style I found faintly irritating.

Black Cone
Black Cone
by Brian Moorhead
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.82

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Apocalypse, 12 Nov. 2015
This review is from: Black Cone (Paperback)
The world seems such an unsafe place with its population of 7.3 billion, international terrorism, the Ebola virus, holes in the ozone layer, the pillaging of the seas, forests and ice caps. It’s hardly any wonder writers see the Apocalypse coming and Black Cone follows that tradition with a new twist – Brian Moorhead has not set his story at some far off time but just around the corner in 2019 – less than four years away.

The US has created a new biological deterrent developed from the bird flu virus called Black Cone, the most powerful weapon of war ever created. It will keep America safe – that is unless it gets into the wrong hands and America itself is held to ransom.

Black Cone is a fast-paced thriller with some neat twists, werll-drawn characters and surprises that kept me turning the pages. It also made me think about the world we’re living in today, that 2019 is looming down on us and politicians need to think less about new more devastating weapons and more about protecting the planet and its people. I am sure that's exactly what author Brian Moorhead had in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Walking the Erotic Line, 12 Sept. 2015
Good sex like good art never repeats itself. Porn is not sex. Porn is simulated sex. A rubber doll with a microchip can imitate human flesh without human feeling. Porn leaves an emptiness inside. Erotica sets up a vibration in the mind that sends pulsing waves through the body. Porn is about orgasm. Erotica is about suspending orgasm.

It is necessary to understand this in order to write a story in which lovers find deep fulfilment through spanking, bondage, submission and domination. RB O’Brien understands the conventions and weaves them together to bring us an Natalie’s new vision of sexual awakening in Redemption (Natalie's Edge : Book 3).

Kept apart by life’s quotidian maze of secrets and lies, Natalie and Michael discover their true passions, indeed, themselves, in the taboo shadows of BDSM, a journey with riveting, carefully described scenes that, for me, never strays over that invisible line between the erotic and pornographic. O’Brien’s characters are well-developed, the plot has twists that push you on through the pages and you will come away eager for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFULLY DARK, 8 July 2015
Lily's story is so dark and intense that it would be hard not to become engaged with her character. This dark paranormal fantasy is breathtaking, the twists and turns in the plot keep you on the edge of your seat (sometimes on the edge of the abyss) and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Love potions are addictive. Good sex is unforgettable. Great writing stays in the memory. Having devoured Love Potion No.1, I came to Love Potion 2 with high expectations that were met and exceeded. Writing is a craft. Writing good erotica is an art. This anthology of sensual stories is, as promised, provocative and, at times, deeply moving.

They say the two worst things in life are the death of a loved one and divorce; divorce is in itself a mini-death, the end of one road without another coming immediately into view. Even the word divorce has an unpleasant ring about it.

Divorce always comes at a time a crisis. It leaves the two people torn apart, often after bitter recriminations (and huge lawyer fees) feeling alone, wounded and bereft. Just as unhappy families are all happy in their own different ways, so each divorce is unique and each person must find their own way to reach a new state of happiness and equilibrium

What Arthur Nazaretin sets out in Divorce Recovery, subtitled: How to overcome personal crisis and start a new life after divorce or separation, is to provide a survivors guide to healing, coping with depression and planting your feet back on the road to recovery. Written is a fluid style in easy to assimilate sections, for anyone going through a divorce – friendly, desperate, or acrimonious, Divorce Recovery holds the keys to future happiness.

Curvology: The Origins and Power of Female Body Shape
Curvology: The Origins and Power of Female Body Shape

4.0 out of 5 stars Nature Curves, 2 July 2015
There are no straight lines in nature and human nature - well, men's - and it is their nature to study the curves of a woman before making his selection for potential breeding (which is what it is all about). Cambridge Professor of Veterinary Anatomy David Bainbridge says the most important thing to men when selecting a mate is intelligence but admits - as is my experience - that they first look at the curves: lips, legs, breasts. Curvology reads like a thriller and you come away anxious to take your clothes off and take a peep in the mirror.
