Philips 19PFL3507 19-inch Widescreen HD Ready Smart LED TV
Philips 19PFL3507 19-inch Widescreen HD Ready Smart LED TV

3.0 out of 5 stars A fair TV for the price but poorly thought out interface, 25 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Installation was straightforward and the picture quality is fair (though not brilliant). The User Interface Design is its main weakness, menus are ill designed and tricky to navigate, and the Electronic Program Guide is pretty poor - really not easy to get an overview of what's on. Without the interface and EPG issues I would have gone for 4 stars, but it really is let down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what a cable should do, 16 Feb 2012

Can't get too excited about a cable, but it is well made and at less than £8 was excellent value for money. Bought to attach my GoPro camera direct to my TV and does the job perfectly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Writing surface excellent - finish quality could be better, 28 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The enamel writing surface is excellent - nice to write on and easy to clean. came with two magnets, a black (nobo) Liquid Ink Drywipe Marker (which is good), and a pen tray. The means to attach the end caps to the pen tray is poor, and the assembly is insubstantial. Overall build quality of the board is fine, but let down by poor finish quality - the corner caps don't quite align with the aluminum frame

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be great - but sigh - let down by niggles, 4 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
On paper this is a great device; a simple combined HRM and GPS unit, at a good competitive price. But having lived with it for a few months I'm frustrated by a few niggles.

On the plus side the GPS unit itself locks on quickly (less then 30 seconds usually), as long as you don't move around while it's firing itself up; and it keeps track of pace and position really well and displays the information back in a relatively simple fashion. And once connected to the garmin site, logging training sessions is effective.

Niggle one arose when I first got the device. I discovered that the HRM seemed to lose the link quite frequently, not displaying the info on the watch for periods and showing odd interpolated/guessed patches in the Heart Rate plots when uploaded - this was eventually fixed with a firmware patch from Garmin, but that itself was Niggle two - Plenty of users had reported the issue on Garmin's own support forums, and their clear frustration was met by an apparent silence from Garmin themselves - just a simple acknowledgement from them that they were working on a fix would have been sufficient.

Niggle three relates to the driver software which has simply stopped working on one of my computers (fortunatey it hasn't given up the ghost on my laptop so I can keep uploading).

Finally, the niggle that surely shouldn't have arisen in the first place - the USB connector 'clip'. This is definitely the shonkiest connector I have ever encountered on a bit of IT kit. It can best be described as a sort of bulldog clip with metal teeth that make electrical connection with electrical contacts on the watch. How on earth this design was arrived upon I can't think - it always takes several attempts to make proper connection. and I love the instructions, which warn against getting moisture on the contacts - It's a device worn during exercise, am I not supposed to sweat?

I really wanted to like this device and in many respects it is great, but the niggles mentioned are really annoying just because they seem like they should have been so easy to avoid, and they take some of the enjoyment out of using it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money and simple to use, 3 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Needed an IDE type hard drive enclosure to retrieve information off an old disk for a relative - 5 minutes after the postie delivered it and I was doing just that.

In the box:
-The enclosure itself
-A USB cable to connect it to the computer
-Installation disk (not needed on my copy of Vista)
-Power transformer and UK plug cord
-Weirdly, a European travel adaptor plug (of no use to me with this device, but will be handy for other things, I guess).

Disconcerted by the lack of instructions, but I figured I knew what I was doing; popped the end off the case (no tools required - apart from an old biro); I had wondered whether it would ome with the appropriate internal ribon cables, but needn't have feared. plugged the hard disk in, slid the disk into the enclosure (taking care not to trap cables). Plugged in the power cable, powered it up, attached USB cable and seconds later had a USB drive that I was happily transferring from.

Tried it with a Seagate drive (which fitted quite snuggly - possibly thanks to their rubber 'sea shield' case). Also tried with a Maxtor drive which seems to be considerably slimmer and does rattle a bit.

Not quite as ugly as I was expecting from other reviews and for it's price this is an excellent buy - and is better than a considerably more expensive Akasa Enclosure I bought some time ago for a SATA drive

4.0 out of 5 stars Bulky and over priced but a quality toaster, 23 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
On the down side it's got a bigger 'footprint' on my kitchen worktop than pretty much any other 4 slice toaster. It is also pricey - you are largely paying for the style and the name. But it works well, and the design features have been carefully thought through, so much so, that I'm hoping this will be the last toaster I ever buy. The heating elements do not have exposed wires - all of my previous toasters went pop when carbonised toast shorted them out, so hopefully that will not be a problem here. Additionally, the heating elements are replaceable (have a search, and you'll find them very reasonably priced), so even when they do inevitably go, I won't have to scrap the whole toaster. Being able to choose how many slots you want to heat is great, as is the ability to have a quick peak at the toast without interrupting the timer.

Zoom H4 Compact SD Recorder with Free 4GB Card and Tripod
Zoom H4 Compact SD Recorder with Free 4GB Card and Tripod

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice,.. but buy the Zoom H4n instead, 9 Feb 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For the price this is an excellent bit of kit. Did some great recordings of singing in a small classroom, and in a vast church. But I wish the H4n had been available when I bought this. The H4 is very fiddly - the interface is clunky, and the weird velcro strap on tripod mount is just a pain. The built in mics are great and the ability to plug in external mics is good, but you can't use both simultaneously. I believe all these shortcomings have been fixed with the H4n, so if you've got the extra few quid go for that. If not, well this is still good, provided you can live with the shortcomings mentioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Throw away your other baking books - this is all you need, 9 Feb 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Leiths Baking Bible (Hardcover)
The Leith's Bible series are the most fantastic cook books (have also got the vegie bible) - every recipe is a winner (no failures yet). No superfluous nonsense about how the recipe was inspired by conversations with natives in rural siberia. Just great, clear recipes and excellent explanations about techniques. Oh and it really is a bible - so many recipes to choose from! Great value - buy this - you won't regret it. Then buy one for your friends and relatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just works!, 9 Feb 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Purchased for father-in-law, set it up for him in minutes and it's worked well since. Build quality is good (with minor niggle of a slightly rattly button). Nice touch is the on/off button - never had this on previous router/modems, as is the ability to turn off the wireless capability if you just want to use it as a wired router/modem (again my own router/modem does not have this facility).

Roberts SOLARDAB-G Solar Powered DAB Radio with Rechargeable Battery Pack - Green

4.0 out of 5 stars Green box - charges well - occasionally squelches, 20 Nov 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It charges surprisingly well. The instructions seem to hint that it has to be absolutely full sunshine, but I listen to it for a couple of hours each day and it seems to never need plugging in, even in my relatively shaded flat. The only minor niggle is the very occasional squelchy interruption to the sound. But most of the time the reception is excellent.
