Notes from a Friend: A Quick and Simple Guide to Taking Charge of Your Life
Notes from a Friend: A Quick and Simple Guide to Taking Charge of Your Life
by Anthony Robbins
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.03

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have ever read, 3 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This has to be one of the best books I have ever read in my life.

It's a fairly thin book, but all the things in it are powerfully described, yet simple ideas and very very thought provoking.

It deals with how to approach difficulties in life, your own outlook, how you currently self talk and how to self talk, how you come across to others visually/physically, how to think with the right mindset, how to deal with difficulties along the way and gives many examples of real life people and how they succeeded, including the authors own life situation.

This is a superb book, very very inspiring. I definitely recommend it. It's a very empowering book if you have the right approach to the information and tips Antony Robbins gives the reader.

I found this book so useful I have since bought 3 more copies for other friends who could benefit from a copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, 3 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is ok, it was damaged when delivered, the corner of the front cover was bent.

There is a fair amount of useful information, and in a simplistic way, almost a bit too simplistic so does leave a lot not covered too. It means you can read this book very quickly, but that's because it's a bit lacking in many ways.

The books: "emotional vampires", and "without conscience", "in sheeps clothing", "why does he do that", "the sociopath next door" and "narcissistic lovers" are all more in depth books, still easy to read, with perhaps more experienced backers behind them and so a lot more substance and quality of writing, analysis and explanation to them in my opinion. The forum the book refers to is a bit amateurish too as they don't appear to accept criticism/feedback.

Any questions on the books, please message me, I'll help where I can.

And for proactive recovery I recommend the "Notes from a friend" by Anthony Robbins.

Who Moved My Cheese: An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life
Who Moved My Cheese: An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life
by Spencer Johnson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 4.49

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clear message about how to deal with life changes....buy it!, 24 Sep 2013
This little book is as some reviews indicated a simple message but it's a powerful message about how to deal with change in any aspect of your life.

It's very easy to read, and has a very core clear message about how to deal with change, and there are four characters in the story who deal with change differently, it follows their experiences.

Sniff & Scurry - who react fast to any changes
Hem - who is resistant to change and in denial
Haw - who is hesitant at first but then does adapt to change when he sees there can be something better from that

Buy the book, it gives you a clear story, you can see which characters you have been in your life, and learn to choose actively which you want to be in the future in any given situation. Some situations are awful and our responses fall into one of these categories, and how you react, will determine the outcome you get in your life, e.g. Hem can get into depression, and miss opportunities, Sniff can get new opportunities and quickly move on with his life, Haw is more cautious doesn't act at first, but then realizes he needs to also and ends up in a better place. It's also about your fears, changes, the unknown, and possibly that things can be much better, but without trying you don't know and can remain stuck like Hem, while life passes you by.

I see I have been Hem, Haw, and Scurry at various points in my life. This simple message gives you clarity on what and how you could be reacting, how you then choose to is up to you, and you can see the types of outcomes for each option. Great book, very effective imagery and messages.

Each person is different, and where you are in your life will impact what you take from this book's story. If you are fairly settled and on track in your life and goals, this is probably of less benefit to you but still worth a read. If you are dealing with change in any way, this is a useful book of clear simple messages and advice.

Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of advice, a really useful dating tool - a must buy book, 24 Sep 2013
After watching the US shows with Patti, her book is really what anyone dating should get in their early 20's ideally.

It's packed full of her advice and guidance on how to date and what to look for in a partner, some of the pitfalls to watch for, etc. It's really about taking control of your life and dating. I only wish I had this book 10 years ago! So much knowledge was a very wise and experienced lady, suitable for guys and girls.

Worth if only to avoid wasted years, hurt feelings and heartbreak of finding out later your with a bad partner who doesn't commit or match you in some way. Here's the advice on how to go about finding a good match, and I am going to follow it!

I would say this is a must buy book if you are dating. Patti has so much knowledge and advice given here, better to know it before than find out the hard way.

Great book Patti!

Fujifilm FinePix T400 Purple + Case and 8GB Memory Card (16MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, 18 Sep 2013
I was looking for a replacement decent camera, this seem to fit the bill at 68.99 (August 2013)

The good:
i) screen size 3 inch LCD
ii) funky purple case colour
iii) slimline style

The bad:
i) When brand new the battery is loose in it's compartment, this is a huge design flaw. So after fully charging the battery, when I pressed the power on button it doesn't work or jams after working. There is movement in how the battery sits in the slot due to a little arm holding it, only it's loose (I mailed the supplier and they said they are all like this, i.e. loose battery fit to camera). It's such a poor design.
ii) Also the battery loses charge pretty quickly from when fully charged, and it's still brand new!
iii) When I press the shutter button to shoot, sometimes it does nothing (even at full battery charge) you have to press it twice, by which time you have missed the shot!
iv) The quality of shots is not great, especially the evening/party ones, quite grainy.
v) While charging there is no clear symbol to show how much charge the battery is currently at.
vi) Left the battery to charge overnight only to find that despite being correctly plugged in it didn't charge up.

This has been a disappointing purchase because I really liked the look of this camera and its specification and large screen. However I will be returning this and look for another brand which has better quality, and I will not be buying any more Fujifilm cameras. They look good and are reasonably priced, but they seem to be of poor quality, plastic bits in key components, I don't think it will last very long.

Best avoided unless you are taking really basic shots and can risk throwing away your money when it breaking a few months down the line. Poor battery compartment design and poor battery life too.

I bought these for the colour and silver detail, they are quite simply the colour you see and just ok. The crystal thought would be prettier being a swarovski one, but it's just fairly plastic looking, and the whole thing really feels overpriced.

I wouldn't but these or recommend them to a friend really. The silver part of the earring is lovely but the crystal looks like a bead, and so gives a more tacky look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very very good book, definitely recommended....., 16 May 2011
This book is very helpful. I was dealing with what I believe is a narcissist type, it's been awful, on so many levels. This book when I read some of the character traits literally made me cry as I could associate so much to it.

Just reading this book, helps sooth you, through understanding the madness and meanness of the situation and personality disordered type.

It's actually quite sad to read it on so many levels, but by the end you feel better, calmer and soothed, that it has a label, you think, "ah that's why he does that". It won't and can't change the person, but you do start to understand what you are dealing with in that person. It talks about criminal and non-criminal types of characters. For me the criminal types were less applicable but also interesting to read about, almost like the same type by as a non-criminal one but a further along the scale.

So it helps you heal in that way and gives you some answers, clarity and closure.

This book is truly a well written and healing resource, thanks to the author for the wonderful insight into these types of people.

I'm not so keen on the term "psychopath" as I associate that with all the maniacs who are in prison having committed awful crimes. However the more modern term used is "sociopath" of which I suspect my ex was one. They often are in society doing fine, or even successful, and not with any criminal record, but they do have the same underlying character.

It gives you a list of the character traits of this type of person. They are:
- glib & superficial
- egocentric & grandiose
- lack of remorse or guilt
- lack of empathy
- deceitful & manipulative
- shallow emotions
- impulsive
- poor behaviour controls
- need for excitment
- lack of responsibility
- early behaviour problems
- adult antisocial behaviour

and explains them in further detail.

It explains how they choose people, they are skilled at doing this.
It looks at origins of the problems, and behaviours at a younger age.
Whether therapy would be helpful or not...... mostly not.
For me, there was a bit too much information and references to the criminals who are sociopaths and looking at their stories, so it would be a useful resource to people impacted that way. But they are still interestng to read and have that insight on, if only to attempt to avoid them in the future.

Finally the last is a chapter on how to protect yourself and survive, which was a short chapter that I would have liked to have seen this as a much longer one, as it's the key to our futures if we are to be happier.

I definitely recommend this book, it will help you see the type and understand some of what you have been through that often seemed bizarre and it helps you get some closure as a result.
