4.0 out of 5 stars Modular functions, 26 Jun 2010
Tom Apostol's sequel to the "introduction to Analytic Number Theory" takes us on a journey into some fascinating areas of mathematics. One of the highlights is the treatment of Rademacher's refinement of the remarkable formula of Hardy and Ramanujan for the number of partitions of an integer. This involves some quite intricate results from the theory of modular functions, and the necessary derivations are given in detail. If you find the journey hard going the accounts of Farey fractions and Ford circles provide a fascinating diversion in themselves.
