5.0 out of 5 stars Blackout 2015 remastered deluxe edition..., 25 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Blackout (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
3rd in the holy trinity of 'Lovedrive','Animal Magnetism'.. Blackout is another full on heavy rock classic whilst retaining that commercial sheen that had come to the fore on the two previous discs. No need for a track by track commentary, suffice to say they are all superb,if your head doesnt automatically default to headbang mode with each track then your neck muscles have gone..

Disc 1 is the original album with superb remastered sound although i suspect it might be the american version of 'China White' rather than the original version found on european pressings of the original album, dont have the vinyl anymore so unable to compare.,also included are a decent collection of demo's pity they didnt just include both versions of 'China White' would have been a nice touch.

Disc 2, fantastic dvd live from German tv from 1983,a totally over the top 'Gonzo' performance,a really excellent bonus plus decent interview re the 'Making of Blackout. These are offset by 2 shockingly crap videos, dated or what?.

As with the other's in this reissue series, digipak sleeve plus decent booklet.. A well worth purchasing release.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kingdom of Madness is alive and well...the story continues..., 1 Mar. 2016
Sacred Blood,Devine Lies.. What a title,i was half expecting a concept album based on the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail!!,maybe next time. What we actually get is another classic Magnum album,in my opinion thats 6 classic studio albums in a row, stretching from 2007's Princes Alice'... disc to this one.

Sublime production, top notch musicianship and a vocalist comfortable with his 'aged' voice, there a warmth to Catley's vocals that are, well, so reassuring, gives the music that little extra glow.

After several listens,i cant fault any track,if forced to pick highlights or favourites, then the title track is an obvious choice, destined to be a stage favourite, the rifferama of tracks such as 'Gypsy Queen' & 'Princess in Rags' bring obvious joy and 'Twelve Men Wise and Just'' is just glorious Magnum in all their pomp

Xmas money burned a hole in my pocket,so after talkin myself into buying it,then out of buying it,i finally pressed the button and purchased, maybe i should have thiought about it a bit longer, ha ha.

This isnt a 5 star release by quite a distance, the sound qaulity is average bass and drums muffled at times and in the background, vocals ok, sounds like Joe Lynn Turner was having an off night.

The bonus performaces are by Rosenthal on Keyboards and Mr B himself.

Ultimately if you love Blackmore then you will want this, its worth having for the performance of 'Difficult To Cure' with Orchestra.(.although after purchase i realised that that track is available on Finyl Vinyl)... Aah well some you win some you lose.

its an expensive purchase which is probably over priced, still thats what choices are all about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Asonishingly good? or astonishingly bad, listen, make your own mind up..., 22 Feb. 2016
This review is from: The Astonishing (Audio CD)
Astonishing that an album by this great band can be so divisive (although it been that way for a while with recent releases),cards on the table this aint an easy album to digest in one sitting,it takes time and patience, its not a casual listen, you really need to be in the mood and have a couple of hours to spare.

Unlike many i enjoyed the 'concept' corny as it is,its escapism, drama ,Walt Disney, call it what you will its a bit of fun,its well played, musicianship second to none and the music literally glides out of your speakers, its even more entrancing with the headphones on.

Is it ther best?,well no,although it must just be the best with this line up,is it their worst? absolutely not, that would be..,well i'll keep that to myself,as it would only be someone else's favourite,we cant all like the same things ,even though we all like the band

4.0 out of 5 stars Livewires Coming your way..., 21 Feb. 2016
This review is from: Cleveland Rocks (Audio CD)
Another decent FM broadcast highlight AC/DC in concert, sadly less than 50 minutes long its pretty much over and done before you know it leaving you wanting more,.

Sound quality is decent ,like the San Fran Cisco 1977 recent release it a bit trebly but it cant hide the power of Bon Scott era AC/DC, opening with a livewire version of ,well, 'Live wire' it the changes pace completely with a great rendition of 'She's Got Balls,we also get a ten minute version of 'The Jack, another rare version of 'Baby Please Dont Go' and the 'Rocker' which stampedes out of the speakers.

Liner notes ,again of no real interest, sound quality of its time, nearly 40 years ago!!!!,if you can handle that then buy and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kissin Time USA.., 21 Feb. 2016
Early Kiss raw and vibrant, as usual with these type of releases sound quality aint perfect but this releae is way bettwr than the recent Memhis release.

Tracks 1 thru 8 come from The Agora Ballrom April 1974, 7 tracks from the debut album plus an early version of 'She' which would surface on '75' Dressed To Kill album, its a fairly standard versiomn with only a small change to Frehleys solo in the mis section.

It strange hearing Simmons and Stanley so timis when the interact with the 'audience',i say audience sounds like there's hardly anyone there,'whatis ther about a 100 of you? ask Simmons part way thru..

Rough and ready versions of classics such as 'Duece ' & 'Strutter' open the show and it close a decent version of 'Black Diamond'

The rest of the disc is bonus cuts , which if you have Kissology Vol 1 then you all rerady have, 3 tracks from ABC In Concer and an interview and perfomance of 'Firehouse; from the Mike Douglas Show.,worth hearing but hardly essential.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rush Rockin Hard...., 21 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ohio 1975 (Audio CD)
What can you say about this release? its got the lot... Tape hiss, distortion, occasional d sound reduction, drums at times muffled but you know what ..its also got a bl**dy outstanding performance by Rush.If you love early Rush then this is a must have, the shortcomings of the audio more than outweighed by the raw excitement contained within the music, five tracks apiece from the ist 2 albums plus a cover version of 'Bad Boy' which Geddy tells the audience the Beatles covered to.

Highlights are plenty , a monstrous version of 'Working Man', thundering takes of 'Finding My Way ' & 'What Your Doing' while a superb 'In The End' will have you smiling from ear to ear, gotta love Geddy's count in one, two, three, FOUR!!!!!. Throw in 100 mile an hour versions of 'In The Mood' and 'Need Some Love' and you have a wonderful gig.

As usual liner notes are minimal and of no real interest, date given for broadcast is 07/04/1975, interestingly the three 1975 bonus tracks on the ABC LIVE 1974 release all sound identical to the versions of same songs on here, the bonus tracks on that album were noted as May 1975,to confuse matters there is another radio broadcast CD just released titled Beneath,Between & Behind which is supposedly May 1975,although some Rush sites are advising it actually the same as this release,so tread carefully if your thinking of buying both.

Soft rock circa 1977,well played, some decent guitar playing from one Vincent Cusano, who knew 5 years late he'd be re-born as Vinnie Vincent stalking the stage with rock giants KISS on their 10th anniversary tour.

The music for the most part is lightweight background music, done much better by the likes of Journey/Styx/Foriegner etc, so no surprise it didnt make them superstars, still its an ok occasional listen no more.

Excellent ,if , suspicious release, hard to tell wether its officiall or semi legit , whats not in doubt is the sound quality, crystal clear and potentially sourced from a BBC transcription disc (as noted by previous reviwers and several fan sites

Tracks included are : The King Will Come/ You See Red/ Front Page News/ The Way Of The World /Phoenix / Anger In Harmony 'Queen Of Torture / Blowin Free.

Performance from the band is superb, particularly the opener tHE King will Come, might actually be my favourite version, its great to have 3 tracks from the ,then, new album NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE,namely tracks 2,4 & 6 whilst a classic from the debut makes a welcome addition (Queen of Torture).

A worthy addition to any fans collection.

My favourite Scorpions studio album now invigorated by a fantastic new remaster,i havent stopped playing this since i bought it 2 months ago. This remastered edition brings out the best in the material banishing the previous remaster to history,

A perfect combination of commercial rock with tracks such as 'Make It Real', '20th Century man ' combined with mamoth riff monsters like the title track and personal favourite 'The Zoo' whilst throwing in the haunting power ballad 'Lady Starlight .. i just cant fail this album.

The deluxe edition comes in digipak format with decent booklet/liner notes, fantastic sound quality and 5 bonus tracks including the poppy 'Hey You' and demo 'American Girls' which had they worked it up could have been a single contender.

all in all a worthy release in rematered/deluxe format.
