3.0 out of 5 stars Good moments but let down by budget, 17 Jun 2013
I think the major flaw with this movie was the lack of budget. The story was ok as was the message. Still some really good moments and scenes and overall the film was enjoyable enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential viewing, 10 May 2013
This review is from: The Spirit of '45 [DVD] (DVD)
This film should be watched by everyone who is ignorant enough to think that we should sleepwalk back to a time before the war when there was no NHS, welfare state or workers rights. Very well made film, full of heart.

2.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but too one sided, 10 May 2013
This documentry is too much of a bitter and needless put down. Warrior in many respects has brought a lot of this on himself, however in this DVD he is unfairly buried for being a poor performer. You also have a lot of comments made from people like Jim Ross who act like they have a first hand account, even though Ross wasn't in the WWE until after Warrior left. All in all, I thought that this DVD was petty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than expected, 14 Jan 2013
This review is from: El Greco (Audio CD)
Despite a boring album cover this is Vangelis at his best. It's dark but gentle. If you like the Bounty music and 1492 soundtracks then give this one a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great viewing..but..., 29 Dec 2012
I'd give this a five star rating if it were not for the match commentary which is dubbed and not live from the time. It's farsical and this DVD would have been perfect had they not done that. They should have used original commentry from the likes of Brian Moore and co.

That said, there are 50 great matches and the running time for each game is just right at 30 mins. I really enjoyed re-living these games, and also watching games from decades ago which I'd never seen before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, 28 Dec 2012
Everything about this album is brilliant. For anyone unsure about the concept I can assure you that Carl Davis does it more than properly. Hope to see a follow up album to this as tracks like Golden Slumbers and Penny Lane would have worked well.

The World Cup's Strangest Moments
The World Cup's Strangest Moments

5.0 out of 5 stars great from start to finish, 17 Sep 2012
As an author myself in this genre, the highest praise I can give this title is to say that it's the most enjoyable football book that I've ever read. Packed with nearly 300 short chapters it's informative, and very funny in parts.
My favorite strangest moment is Seddon's breif account of events during the 1930 World Cup, some of which seem slapstick enough to put in a manic silent film comedy.
Other stand out chapters are far darker, for example the Zambia air crash in the 1990s when virtully the whole team died, or the torture of the Iraq players by the Saddam regime. The strengh of the book is that the author includes the qualification rounds.

Well worth a read. I've read it once and I will read it again.

Maradona [DVD]

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring in too many parts, 13 April 2012
This review is from: Maradona [DVD] (DVD)
Given Maradona's dramatic career and life, not one minute of this film should have been dull. There is stock footage, but rather than a documentry on his life, most of this film is spent following him and the director around in the current day. It has it's moments of interest such as showing Maradona as a left wing activist which sets him apart from most high profile sporting legends. But as a whole, far too much of this film was dragged out. When Maradona talks he is very interesting, but I didn't care who the director was and thought we saw too much of him, and other groups like the Chruch of Maradona who got far too much camera time!

This book deserves 5 stars just for the level of reseach put in to it. A very enjoyable read. An excelent football book that mixes politcs with football.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, passionette, well argued., 11 Jan 2012
This book is a great read for anyone who hates everything that Michael Bay stands for in movies. Much of it is very funny and Kermode puts foward his arguments really well and with passion. His anger with fast food multiplex culture is bang on. Well done Kermode, really enjoyed that read.
