An excellent concert from start to finish.Amazing how a three piece band of keyboards, drums and vocals can pump out such a full sound. The singer Tom Chaplin is completely engaging with the enthusiastic audience and on pitch for the whole show. The sound on my Blu ray version is great and the video has purposely been done in a grainy style which works well for this concert.

If you like Keane this is a must buy.

With Steely Dan official release concert videos being a rarity and aside from the fabulous `Two Against Nature' DVD which is now quite expensive new which would indicate it is discontinued there are only poorer quality offerings like this one which I'm glad I took the chance on.

This concert is from the `Everything Must Go' U.S.tour in 2003.The performances are first rate as you would expect from this band of amazing musicians and fortunately the audio quality even though only in stereo is also very acceptable.

The let down is the video. It's watchable but nowhere near the pristine hi def video of some recent blu ray concerts and some weird stuff happens intermittently like a fixed shot of the bands backdrop which lasts for 30 seconds then goes back to the band. Also the logo of the video company `Echoes' is permanently visible in the top right corner of the screen. It didn't bother me but it might annoy some.On the upside the camera person at least had the camera focused on the right musician during the solos of which there are many.

TRACK LISTING:

CUBANO CHANT( Instrumental Band only cuban/jazz intro) AJA - TIME OUT OF MIND- GODWHACKER - CAVES OF ALTAMIRA - BLACK COW - BABYLON SISTERS - SLANG OF AGES - PEG - HOME AT LAST - THE STEELY DAN SHOW - JANIE RUNAWAY - HEY NINETEEN - HAITIAN DIVORCE - THINGS I MISS THE MOST - PARKERS BAND - JOSIE - KID CHARLEMAGNE - DON'T TAKE ME ALIVE - MY OLD SCHOOL - FM

BAND LINEUP:

CORNELIUS BUMPUS - SAX , TOM BARNEY - BASS , TED BAKER - PIANO, KEITH CARLOCK - DRUMS, JIM PUGH - TROMBONE, MICHAEL LEONHARDT - TRUMPET, WALT WEIZKOPF - SAX, CYNTHIA CALHOUN - B/VOCALS , CINDY MIZELLE - B/VOCALS, CAROLYN LEONHARDT - B/VOCALS.

So if you can overlook the poor video quality and lack of 5.1 surround and hey have you ever been to a live concert presented in surround sound anyway, then this is worth the purchase.Maybe just for the diehard fans though but unless the band give us an official release this is the best we can do for now.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take a Jumbo, 24 Jan 2014

A very bold move on behalf of Universal Music to release classic albums such as this on Blu Ray audio considering the relative mass market failure of similiar previous high end audiophile formats in DVD Audio and SACD.The market for Blu Ray Audio will be basically the same.Mostly customers with high quality sound systems who also enjoy surround sound which unfortunately this disc is not.

For those who already have a CD remaster of `Breakfast In America' like myself and are deciding whether it is worth the money to purchase this I would say yes order it .I listened to both back to back to see if in fact I had wasted my cash but the Blu Ray Audio version definitely has the edge.Smoother and more spacious sounding and a tighter, deeper bass but all in balance.

Now for the lack of surround issue..those who are happy with stereo can stop reading now. Some albums should definitely stay as stereo because surround will bring nothing new to the listener and sometimes just sound plain wrong but Supertramp albums just scream out to be mixed in surround. It would lift this album from just sounding great to absolutely perfect and it's not even my favourite Supertramp album. If they consider releasing `Crime of the Century' on Blu Ray I hope they take note of customer feedback and spend a bit of money having it remixed because I'm sure it will sell a lot more copies than just stereo. They do say on the inside cover that `where possible tracks will be available in 5.1 surround but to pay respect to the original material this is not always possible.Interesting terminology but not relevant in this case.

So it is an improvement to all previous disc versions and sounds wonderful but if you have a turntable it might be worth finding a vinyl copy for a comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray Audio brings it to life., 4 Nov 2013

I have owned this album both on vinyl and non remastered CD.The vinyl sounded good but the audio on the CD was really flat and lifeless. It has since been remastered on CD but I'm so glad they decided to bring this wonderful album out on Blu Ray audio. It may have only got a stereo mix which as some have pointed out is a wasted opportunity instead of a 5.1 surround mix but what a difference in sound quality.

I'm hearing things I've never noticed before and highly recommend a purchase. This album was the last of four classic Stevie Wonder albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Winner for the price, 15 Nov 2011

I had this on VHS back when it was first released in the late eighties and was pleased to see that they had bothered to release it on DVD.It is a snapshot in time of McCartney during the time of the `Flowers In The Dirt' album which I think was on of his best solo efforts. It switches between interviews with Paul and live performances in his home studio with a great band including Linda.Elvis Costello pops up briefly singing a demo of `My Brave Face' which he co wrote.

It begins with C Moon and includes six Beatles songs, some old rockers and most of the then new album. He is in fine voice here and for those who have bought his later DVD's you will notice how well he hits all the notes when he was younger. The sound quality is very good and is in DTS 5.1 as well as stereo. The video quality is definately not High Definition but is quite acceptable for a music video.

I got this for less than a pound so really at this price it's a no brainer.Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ron Want's Some Radio Play, 10 Jun 2011
If you are new to Ron Sexmith's music this is the most polished production of any of his albums and in many ways maybe his best.If you have any of his previous albums you will notice one big difference. His voice here has lost some of the character and uniqueness.A certain `back of the throat' sound which also added atmosphere and often melancholy especially to the slower songs.Other reviewers have mentioned that a studio technique called `Auto Tune' has been used. But even with the gloss I still cannot help but love this album.

If you want to explore his back catalogue I suggest you start with `Retriever' as it has a pop feel like this one in some of the songs.

And just a word on the review above by `Chris Roberts' of the BBC.I know its his opinion but he is at odds with every other review here and like many music critics often get personal and like the power of shooting down an artist.I knew I smelled a rat when I saw his name.Just check out his review of `The Doobie Brothers' new one `World Gone Crazy'.He really puts the knife in and is just plain insulting.I don't think he likes music.

Now Ron how about a live DVD and put out `Love Shines'with it as a double disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the very best, 25 Feb 2011

I bought Stop making Sense on VHS back in the Eighties after seeing the movie at a cinema.I was a big fan of Talking Heads but after they disbanded I stopped listening to their music and it is not until very recently that I have rediscovered what a great band they were and this concert is the absolute peak of their career.

Believe the other 5 star reviews here.I read them and thought why not check them out again. The energy coming off the stage is almost palpable. If you have even a half decent sound system just turn it up .Every song is great and the visual and sound quality are top class.A must have for any Talking Heads fan.

The first thing you notice when opening the promptly delivered package is that it isn't in one of those impenetrable hard plastic bubbles with loads of unneccesary instructions.Well done Duronic on considering the environment and cost no doubt.

The cable itself looks well made and it fits securely to my receiver and dvd player. The most important aspect being the sound quality is all good.It deals with multi channel signals with no problems and without a side by side comparison to other optical cables I would say save your money and buy one of these. My sound system is mid level and this cable would I'm sure suit even the most discerning audiophile with the hearing of a dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't get me wrong, 8 Nov 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this Blu ray on the strength of the other very favourable reviews and because I will be seeing The Pretenders and Blondie in a double bill concert next month.Having not listened to them for some years I was very curious as to how they sound all these years down the track. In a word `Excellent'.Chrissie Hynde looks great and her voice is just as good as ever.Just don't be put off by some reviewers having an issue with the running mascara on her face.I must admit that about five songs in she does start to look more like Alice Cooper than Chrissie Hynde and stays that way for the rest of the show but they play so well that who really cares.Martin Chambers the original drummer has power and finesse behind the kit and all the lead guitar riffs we know so well are executed beautifully by James Walbourne and Eric Heywood on pedal steel.

Blu ray image is excellent as is audio with DTS HD Master Audio. The liner notes mention that the audio was mastered with Dynamics in mind.So turn it up and watch a great band still a potent force in rock music.
