5.0 out of 5 stars Beyonce Experience (BLU-RAY REVIEW), 5 July 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Blu-ray edition of this concert is only available for import from USA, but despite this it IS region free so you will have no trouble in playing this disk on a UK region B player.

The concert itself is amazing featuring all Beyonce's biggest hits along with an extensive medley of Destiny's Child classics and surprise guests and the production is first class. Every effort has been made to ensure that this is a memorable show. Sadly it lacks any special features but you do get an entertaining show that's over 2 hours long. An essential purchase!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best...just can't be bettered!!!, 4 July 2009
OK Thriller is widely known as the best selling album of all time. So Sony decide to honour this by giving us a 25th anniversary edition. Fact is the extras are...well...not as good as the original material.

The 9 tracks that made Thriller are legendary, particularly Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller. What this version includes is remixes of tracks from the likes of will.i.am, Akon, Fergie & Kanye West which aren't even close to being as good as the original songs. When you have songs that are considered PERFECT they simply don't need remixing.

I would say that the bonus DVD is a treat. It features the 3 videos from the album (Billie Jean, Beat It & of course Thriller itself, the most well known video ever made) and the legendary live performance of Billie Jean from Motown 25 (the performance that started the phenomenon). But all these are previously available anyway on DVD with other videos too.

In short if you already own Thriller (and chances are you probably do!!!) then it isn't really worth upgrading to this edition. There has already been a special edition of Thriller released in 2001 along with Off the wall, Bad and Dangerous so this release isn't entirely neccessary. Just another example of Sony and the Michael Jackson cash cow!!

5 stars for the excellent album, an essential purchase if you don't own Thriller already, if you do already own it then think about listening to the new tracks first before you part with your cash.

5.0 out of 5 stars King of Pop, Essential, Number Ones...., 3 July 2009
This review is from: King of Pop, Best Of (Audio CD)
Ok so there are 3 Michael Jackson Greatest Hits collections to have hit shelves in the past few years since his final album Invincible. But which is the best. All 3 are brilliant albums, no doubt there, but here's the lowdown.

Number ones features 18 tracks in chronological order hand picked by MJ himself, it also has the newest MJ single available (2003's One More Chance) on the negative side it includes too many tracks from 1987's Bad album whilst almost ignoring Dangerous which is solely represented by Black & White. Oddly it also includes break of dawn, an album track from Invincible yet omits other well known songs.

Essential is the only one of these albums to feature Jackson 5 and early MJ tracks (again in chronological order, 1969's I want you back to 2001's you rock my world) with 38 tracks on offer this is more for the dedicated fan, not a casual listener.

King of Pop was a celebration of MJ's 50th birthday with 17 tracks chosen by the public, the songs are shuffled which gives it that "variety" and features tracks from all 6 of MJ's Sony albums. There aren't really any "fillers" here, this is probably the best of the three if you're looking for Jackson's better known songs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Truly BAD!, 28 Mar 2009
If you buy this expecting to see a biopic similar to Ray or walk the line then think again. This TV movie due to the lack of licensing doesn't feature one Michael Jackson song instead it has muted musical performances from an impersonator. The acting is awful. The editing is terrible, it looks as though it has been filmed with a camcorder at times. The production is a complete mess.

The same Actor plays Michael from the late 70's to 2003 and to compensate the changes that we've seen Michael go through in that time they simply cover the guy in white powder or something! You can see his actual skin tone underneath.

The cliched dialogue is almost laugh out loud funny. When Michael meets Martin Bashir for the first time he say's "if I can't trust you who can I trust" and when talking about his 2001 concert at Madison square garden saying that tomorrows headlines will be a day to remember (the night before 9/11). Come on!!!

Then there's the incredibly cheesy ending in which Michael goes on trial and the film ends there with a group of people looking solemnly at the camera one by one. It's clear that the film was rushed out by amateur producers to coincide with the trial, not even bothering to see the outcome of it.

If you want a better film about Michael Jackson check out the Jacksons: An American Dream, at least that actually features many Jackson 5 and MJ songs and isn't as poorly put together as this rubbish. Unfortunately its only available from the US so you'll need a multi region player. Michael would never endorse this rubbish. Avoid it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A quality performance, 25 Mar 2009
This concert features most of Shakira's biggest hits from her back catalogue. Most of these are indeed Spanish and yes Shakira does speak to the audience mostly in Spanish. Whilst I agree with the other reviews which mention that English subtitles would have been a worthy addition to this disc it is important to remember that Shakira has had a far bigger career in Spanish speaking countries than US / UK where she is just beginning to break these markets. That is probably why this performance was chosen for a home entertainment release.

As for the concert itself whether she sings in English or Spanish the songs are still very enjoyable and the performance is energetic. The disc contains two documentaries, one about her charity work in Columbia, the other about the world tour. It also includes a music video, two extra live performances and a photo gallery.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!, 20 Mar 2009
Considering this concert is nearly 30 years old the quality of the picture and audio is truly amazing, you could be fooled into thinking that this concert was filmed more recently, especially having seen the original print before the restoration which was very poor. Well done to all those involved in cleaning up this film!!!

Note: the live aid footage and other extras are in standard definition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 18 Mar 2009
This is Michael Jackson at his creative peak. The set design and the energy in the performances could hardly have been bettered. Each track is unique and exciting to watch, particularly Smooth Criminal and Billie Jean. This is the only official Michael Jackson live DVD to be released at this moment and is perfect for an introduction to the King of Pop!!!
