3.0 out of 5 stars OK..., 7 Oct. 2008
This review is from: Solace (Paperback)
I was a little disappointed with this novel. I had previously read 'Moment you were gone' which I thoroughly enjoyed and expected high things of this book, however I felt this book was disappointing in comparison. I found the book really hard to get into however it did get better. I did find the main character slightly annoying however I did warm to her. The book is about love loss and betrayal and I do think the author portrays these emotions well. On the whole an ok book but it could have been a bit more fast paced at the start.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok but disappointed, 25 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Millie's Fling (Paperback)
Unlike the other reviewers, I was actually disappointed with this book. I usually really enjoy Jill's books and read them very quickly, this one however I really struggled to get through. I didn't particularly warm to the characters that much and found it all very predictable. However, the book was well written and a good book to read on holiday, just not as enjoyable as her other books such as 'Fast Friends' 'Solo' 'Kiss' 'Sheer Mischief' etc!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much hype - overated, 15 Sept. 2007
I was extremly disappointed with this book. I picked it up from my local library after reading the synopsis of the book and after seeing it was a Richard and Judy recommended read I thought it would be a good read. However, it was not! I found it really difficult to get into the story and very nearly gave up on several occasions. Like other readers what made me keep on going was the fact that I actually wanted to find out who the murderer was! The constant references to Hamlet was annoying and very unnecessary. I found it hard to warm to any of the characters, they were all very unlikeable. All in all a very dissppointing book for what could have been a good plot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Susan Lewis, 23 Aug. 2006
This review is from: The Hornbeam Tree (Paperback)
If you are a fan of Susan Lewis books you will love this one! On the other hand if you are new to Susan Lewis, this book is a great one to start with. This book centres on the relationship between Katie Kiernan, who is diagnosed with cancer, and her daughter and on the relationship beteen Katie and her sister Michelle, who comes to England to look after Katies daughter Molly after Katue dies. Fans of susan lewis will remember Michelle from previous books, michelle brings into Katies life intrigue due to michelles involvement with tom chambers who has been given explosive government documents. Other characters we have previously meet are elliot and laurie, this novel documents the developemts in their relationship. this ia a very good susan lewis book, read it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly dull and irritating characters, 7 Aug. 2006
This review is from: The Mermaid's Purse (Paperback)
After reading'losing Gemma' and not been all that impressed I thought I would try another book by Katy Gardner. This book however was not great. Whilst I thought on tbe whole the plot was good, the charcters were very irritating, especially the main character Cass. At points i did feel sorry for Cass, but despite this the charcter grated on me and was on the whole unbelivable. However, the twist at the end was good and is what merits the 3 stars i have given this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good light read, 23 May 2005
I loved this book! I found the charcters in the book very intriguing and unlike some of the other reviewers I DID want to find out what happened to them. The concept of the novel, a ordinary set of people meeting every month to discuss the works of Jane Austen, is brilliant. Whilst not much about Austen's actual works are discussed, in my opinion, this is a good thing, what is the point of reading a novel which solely discusses works by another author? The plot instead focuses on the book club members lives, Jocelyn, Sylvia, Allegra, Grigg, Bernadette and Prudie, who have all lived very colourful lives and who are all identifiable with in different ways! A good read, i would certainly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Westlife at their best, 25 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Turnaround (Audio CD)
As a huge fan of Westlife from day one when they supported fellow Irish boyband Boyzone when they had no name i looked forward to the 5th album from the boys. This album has got to be one the best i have heard from a 'boy band' but this band have grown up and is one of the most mature albums by them. It has a few of the tpyical ballads which we have come to grow and love by them such as track 13 what do they know and track 5 'when a woman loves a man'. However it does have a different feel to it with rocky songs such as turnaround and thank you. I love this album i just hope its not going to be the last from the most successful boyband this side of the Atlantic. 10 out of 10!

Francesca's Party
Francesca's Party

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointing, 11 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Francesca's Party (Paperback)
Having read some of Patrica Scanlan's earlier efforts such as 'Foreign Affairs' and 'Mirror Mirror' i was slightly dissapointed with 'Francesca's Party'. Even though it was a well written novel it didnt possess the 'X' factor whihc her other novels do. The plot focuses on Francesca who after dropping her husband off at the airport discovers he has left his mobile phone she goes rushing after him in the airport only to find him kissing a another lady, who he has being having a rather long affair with. After disccovering this Francescas life is twisted upside down and she discovers that Mark (husband) is not the man she thought he was. Even though i enjoyed the novel it seemed quite repetative as there is not that many charcters in it and only really fcuses on Francesca, Mark and Nikki (his lover) and his affair. As there is no sub plot there is not much else going off. A good effort but not the best.
