War Time Secrets With Harry Harris [DVD]
War Time Secrets With Harry Harris [DVD]

5.0 out of 5 stars War Time Secrets - Harry Harris, 29 Jan. 2016

A very good DVD series.
Although it does at some points delve into conspiracy theories, the presenter Harry Harris presents in an honest and straight forward way, and one is able to tell he is enthusiastic and genuine about his interest in history.
Especially good are the two short documentaries that form part of the extras on the third DVD.

This review is from: The Throwback (Paperback)
Excellent book. If you like or know Tom Sharpe's books then you are in for a treat.
An interesting critigque on the upper classes of a certain generation coupled with the story of 2 very naive people coming to grips with life as it is.
This is of course spiced up with the usual mayhem that is a part of any Sharpe novel.

I was apprehensive about reading this book due to a lot of the bad reviews it has received here on Amazon.
If you liked the film (which I did) you will find the book very different and thus I can understand some of the poorer reviews.
Hollywood needs a continuous thread through the film otherwise, the film will be panned and noone will make any money.
This book on the other hand makes a very good effort at handling and explaining a very complex subject matter that has nothing to do with the film whatsoever (except for perhaps the principles and the locations involved)
All the men worked separately and had their own areas of operation, thus their stories are separate ones, if you wish to interpret this as leading the book to seeming "boring" "disjointed" or badly written then that is your opinion.
I personally found it an enjoyable read and well written.
4 Stars as I feel the end of the book was rather rushed but overall a good book.

Easy to watch with excellent background and location filming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dan Snow's Battle of the Somme, 18 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good documentary, as expected very good quality and Dan Snow is very interesting to watch.
I however felt that there could have been more detail and explanation about the film that was a central feature of the documentary, especially such points as how they tracked down the locations in the film etc. thus only 4 stars.

Al Deere Wartime Fighter Pilot, Peacetime Commander: The Authorised Biography
by Richard C. Smith
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £18.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Al Deere Wartime Fighter Pilot, Peacetime Commander, 25 Mar. 2015

Good book.
If you have enjoyed "9 Lives" you will like this book.
Written from a 3rd person perspective and filled with more background information, and anecdotes from other people.
This helps to form a much better picture of in some circumstances how lucky Al Deere was to survive the war (his autobiography is not called 9 Lives for nothing) and also what sort of a person he really was.
Definitely recommended.

Edition: Hardcover
Price: £25.00

A good book.
Rather technical in places and certainly more suited to the informed readed.
People who were involved with the Phantom either as a pilot, navigator or ground crew will probably find this book more interesting than the general aviation enthusiast.

An excellent book by one of the 20th Century's great adventurers.

Extremely good read.
Well suited for those who were there and took part as well as the interested aviation enthusiast.
The compact well written chapters provide a great insight into Jaguar operations whilst not disguising the often serious nature of flying a military fast jet.
