Insanity (Mad in Wonderland)
Insanity (Mad in Wonderland)
Price: £0.99

1.0 out of 5 stars One-dimensional unrealistic characters and no coherence, 20 April 2016
This was awful - an infantile prologue with a bunch of clichéd unrealistic "Oxford" types clearly written by someone who has never been near the place, followed by a nonsensical description of a mental health hospital like something from the 1950s. Then I gave up and deleted it.

An odd book - the main plot kept me gripped to the end, but the characters and side stories were a bit cliched

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant post-apocalyptic journey, 16 Aug. 2015

This review is from: Station Eleven (Kindle Edition)
The post apocalyptic tale of a world in which a virus has all but destroyed mankind, and has certainly reduced it to a far more primitive form. The story unfolds wonderfully with many tensions and twists, the many characters are drawn with a love and deep understanding of humanity. Brilliant, I can't wait to read more by the author.

2.0 out of 5 stars An apocalyptic tale with no love nor understanding of humankind, 16 Aug. 2015

An apocalyptic tale begins with a clever, John Wyndham like story of meteorites bombarding the earth with catastrophic results. I didn't get much further, however. The author's first person narration betrayed an utter lack of understanding of other people - even the character's wife and child were barely two dimensional clichés and other characters simply dismissed as the people from the posh houses, and so on. No humanity whatsoever. I have read other books spoiled by obvious self-absorbtion of the author. Perhaps he should meet some people who are different to him and actually interact with them before trying to write another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant fantasy thriller, 16 Aug. 2015

I am a rare visitor to the magic/fantasy genre, and I found this a terrific read. Fairies, dragons, humans and strange powerful librarians are brought to life in an endlessly inventive detective thriller. A brilliant first novel and I hope the author carries on writing as well and as inventively in the future.

A fantastic modern fairytale. Terrifying monsters and wonderful imagery. I read it in one day on holiday and got sunburnt because I couldn't stop reading.

It's hard to review something when all it does is sit in the corner under the desk feeding power to a PC & peripherals, but this is a great piece of kit, and the swivelling sockets are brilliant for bulky transformer plugs. Really pleased with it

4.0 out of 5 stars Some great songs, 7 Jan. 2013

This review is from: Tinsel and Lights (Audio CD)
Tinsel and Lights and Joy stand out as terrific new Christmas songs, and Hard Candy Christmas is covered beautifully. I had this CD on several times during the holiday and it was a good, if rather downbeat, backing track to Christmas
