5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Devastating, 31 Jan. 2011
Before I begin, if you haven't read the rest of this series, do so now. If you haven't seen the TV adaptation, do so now. Both of these products are not only fine examples of zombie fiction, they are fine examples of American literature and drama itself.

Volume 8 is crammed full of retribution, sacrifice, desperation, despair and downright, unforgiving punishment which has been building to a crescendo over the last few volumes. This book is stunning and this volume is unmissable, beautiful, tragic and extremely brave.

No one is safe, no one is guaranteed.

Read it and weep, turn each page and deny what you are seeing in front of you.

Keep it up Walking Dead, I've just ordered Volumes 9 and 10...

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one for (sick) boys, 31 Jan. 2011
An interesting premise, well executed (if not totally original, see Authority, Watchmen and even Astro City to an extent), this is the story of a world overrun with superheroes (like your local cinema) who are a law unto themselves and the group of misfits setting out to police them.

This is brutal, graphic and only for the most hardened of souls. Sex, Drugs and ultraviolence. Not sure if I am getting old but for me it seemed somewhat childish in its' approach at times, showing scenes of degradation for the sake of shocking the reader.

Other than that, I will buy another of these to see if the story and characters develope. But if this doesnt go much farther, one will be the limit.

Some great characterisations here of some prime examples of kidulthood men. Some great lines, some great moments and a show that cares about it's characters, sometimes more than they do about one another. Good stuff, looking forward to the next boxset.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking me back, 29 April 2010
This review is from: Terror Twilight (Audio CD)
A true blast from the past and a lot of good Uni days memories come from listening to this album. It's full of mellow, smooth tracks with an underlying rawness and enthusiasm for music. Some great sing-a-long moments too, once you get into this unusual sound. Worth a try for anyone not familiar with the band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could never give The Wire less than 5 stars!, 28 Aug. 2009

I, like many, was cajoled into watching The Wire. I mean, how could it possibly be as good as what people were saying? It's a cop show, right? Surely, it's another CSI/ Law & Order style show about police procedure and the brave people fighting to rid our society of bad eggs!?

WRONG!!!!

This is the best police drama so far and I cant see anyone topping it. It arrived fully fledged as its' own world and asks you to jump straight in and catch up, throwing local slang and code at you which you piece together throughout the show. Add to this that there is not one bad actor in the 5 series, with everyone having their moment to shine and everyone feeling like they are showing us fully 3D characters and you have a pretty special show. The add to this that this show isnt scared to slowly burn away each week, refusing to give you the "case of the week" style formula we have come to expect from TV. It's War and Peace for TV and the ongoing story archs are fantastically played out.

Right, season 5! So we are at the end of the show and some wrapping up needs to be done to meet fan expectations. To be honest, there is a lot of this in the series and the show's "theme per series" format suffers slightly from this. Season 5 is set up to examine the media's effect on crime, on police work and on politics and sadly it is somewhat sidelined by the fact this is the last series and we all want to see how our favourite characters are going to end up. Nevertheless, there are still some great moments from the new media characters and they blend well into the rest of the high drama.

However, we are really here to see our favourite characters close down the show and here we are not disappointed. If you have watched the other seasons, you will no doubt be getting this regardless, if you are new to The Wire, pick up season 1 and enjoy the surprise of finding that no one has been exaggerating. How they got this show made I will never know, I'm just glad they all put in the effort.

30 Rock - Season 1 - Complete [DVD]
30 Rock - Season 1 - Complete [DVD]
Dvd ~ Tina Fey
Price: £5.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Moments of pure crystalised Baldwin & Co!, 28 Aug. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
30 Rock is a very solid show, let's start with that. You will notice from the outset that it has a scattergun approach to comedy and is trying, in some way, to please everyone. The show swings from slapstick, to crudity, to well-scripted banter and back again. Unfortunately, this means that not every joke works but at the speed at which the jokes come it doesnt really matter, the next zinger is just round the corner.

This show is really about Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, the core to the premise and they are absolutely brilliant to watch. Alec Baldwin uses his charm, wit and intimidating presence to full effect here and Tina Fey is his ultimate foil, the real person unwilling to bend to his will or ego. Really great stuff; they earn the 4 stars alone.

Some very good moments in this series and I will be rewatching this in the future. I'm looking forward to series 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, 29 Jun. 2009
Poor poor Will Smith. He releases two big should-be blockbusting movies over the last two years and they both receive luke-warm support. Where the other movie was cursed with bad CGI badguys this movie looks pretty impressive and has a good few decent laughs. Try to find a more immoral superhero in Hollywood (equal only to evil Superman). If this movie hadnt been surrounded by Iron Man, The Incredible Hullk and The Dark Knight I think it wouuld have shined. If only they'd held it back to this year...I think more people would have got the tongue-in-cheek attitude towards superhero-dom. Worth another watch if you saw it last year.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mighty Ska, 29 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Ska Mania (Audio CD)
Some absolutely great tracks on these CDs, well worth the money and a great way to expand your knowledge of Ska. Thoroughly recommended. Only downside is that Media Player doesnt recognise the CD and tries to put in a 1994 version with all the tracks in the wrong order. So if you are looking to put this on your PC be prepared for an hour of retyping...

5.0 out of 5 stars From Strength to Strength, 26 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fantastic show which puts anything us Brits might produce to utter shame. In depth characterisation of cops AND criminals, showing the greyer areas in both. Brilliantly observed, uncompromising in tone and language, a biting accusation against law enforcement and the contradictions of the job. Beautifully acted with not a ham in sight.

It's payday tomorrow, I'm getting series 3:)
