I'm a big fan of the Byrne and Balzano series and didn't hesitate when buying this Kevin Byrne short. Read it in 5 minutes while on the train. Hopefully there'll be more shorts in the future

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice collection of stories 4/5, 18 Jun. 2014

A good collection of stories written by fans of the genre and those who work with superheros e.g. Scott Snyder.
There's a bit of everything in the collection, not just happy go lucky heroes but there's thriller, comedy, drama, pathos, a bit of action here and there. I read this on a 4+ hour flight and never got bored as there are no two stories alike.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this book

This review is from: Horns (Kindle Edition)
I bought this book from a recommendation by YouTuber Anna Akana whose channel is called BonerBookClub. I'm so glad I did, I'm a fan of Joe Hill's work, Locke and Key in particular and this is the first novel of his that I've read.

Ig Perrish wakes up with a hangover, a pair of horns growing out of his head and the ability to make people tell him their deepest and darkest thoughts. That's just a taste of what was a dark and absorbing story that grabs you from the start. There is a big religious aspect to the story which may put you off if you're not into that sort of thing but stay with it and you won't
be disappointed.

There's dark comedy, supernatural drama, horror, suspense betrayal and what was a surprisingly positive ending. I thoroughly recommend this book

4.0 out of 5 stars 4/5- A very good read, 8 Dec. 2013

I saw that a bunch of New 52 titles were going for a 1/10 of their retail price on the Kindle store so I bought this, along with a dozen others.

I've never read any Swamp Thing books before and only know the character through some online research, regardless, this is a really good book; I enjoy Scott Snyder's writing and the artwork by Yanick Paquette is clean and well detailed, his depiction of The Rot reminds me of the 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen a few years ago. I like the idea of The Green and the history of Swamp thing and I don't think you have to be a well versed comic book enthusiast to enjoy this book.

Hopefully I'll be caught up enough with the events prior to the New 52 so I can continue reading the new titles and follow the adventures of Swamp Thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome!, 9 Nov. 2013

I've been wanting to get into Snyder and Capullo's work since hearing them on Kevin Smith's "Fatman on Batman" podcast so when I saw court of owls going for such a low price, I couldn't resist.

This story is brilliant; Snyder's writing gives it a proper mystery/conspiracy story feel and Capullo's artwork is just as brilliant, his attention to detail and the gothic, horror element towards the end is unlike any Batman book I've read before. These two make a undoubtedly dynamic duo (see what I did there), looking forward to the next few volumes.

Ps. This is the first book of the New 52 that I've read, if anyone knows any other titles I should look at, let me know :) I want to try Animal Man at some point

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read, 8 Oct. 2013

The idea of being able to get a psychic reading from what you eat is unique and interesting one. I'm slightly worried about what else Tony Chu will eat in future volumes.
The story is clever and raises a lot of questions. The artwork is very good and gross, in a good way. My only problem was that in at least two pages the dialect is in Russian and although there is a translation at the end, it doesn't help when reading for the first time.
Still, a very good start, looking forward to reading the rest

This review is from: 45 (Kindle Edition)
In the vein of world war z, 45 is a series of transcripts of interviews between journalist James Stanley and 45 superheroes from around the world, as well as retired supers, families and other characters. The 45 pieces of unique artwork that accompanies each transcript are brilliant. Well worth a read and excellent value for money

A very entertaining read. King is very good at creating these worlds in his books. There are a few typos though, which he actively encourages his readers to point out to him.

A good read if you like Rob Brydon or want to learn more about the tv industry. I hope he'll consider writing a second book as this stops shortly after he did human remains and marion and geoff and I'd like to read more about his time on gavin and stacey as well as his other work, stand up etc

Similar to Peter Kay's books with literally dozens of hilarious family and work stories and like Lee Evan's book, some very emotional moments as well, I thoroughly recommend Jason Manford "brung up proper"
