4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to feel blue about here, 28 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I purchased this set to complement a more ornate navy bedding set. Both the pillows and duvet are navy blue on one side, whilst the vibrant blue on the other side matches the colour of the fitted sheet. This sheet is also large enough to remain firmly on my rather deep orthopaedic mattress.

The cotton is soft and crisp but comfortable. The fit of the pillow cases, duvet cover and fitted sheet are all excellent. Personally I would find this bedding set a little on the plain side if used on its own; but as an added extra to the complete bedding set I recently purchased, it's absolutely perfect and a bargain for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Navy/brown complete bed set, 28 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was after a luxurious looking complete bed set in navy to match my bedroom décor, and must say that I haven't regretted this purchase. The colours in the product picture look navy and gold; however in reality it's more navy/brown. As the material is somewhat shinier than anticipated, I'm happier with the brown as I think it tones down the overall effect a little (as will several washes hopefully).

The neck pillow, pillow and cushion are lovely co-ordinated accessories to the bed, and are appealing and plump. I find them comfortable; however as I already anticipated that my partner would moan about them feeling scratchy (he did), I took the precaution of also purchasing some plain navy cotton pillow cases. These not only enhance the overall look of this bedding set, they also ensure my partner's sensitive skin isn't irritated. He did like the bedspread but wondered if it may be a little too warm and heavy to have even over a light weight duvet. It's not at all. In fact it not only looks good, it feels cosy. My only disappointment was the valance sheet. This is the second bedding set I have recently purchased, and I expected that the valance sheet would be of a better quality. It isn't but luckily it's a navy blue over a white bed base plus it's hidden by the length of the bedspread.

My partner may be annoyed by the extra pillows on the bed, doesn't understand why they remain when he doesn't plan to use them and fails to appreciate how pretty and well put together the bed now looks. I'm happy and that's what counts ;)

Pros: Overall luxurious appearance
Cons: Flimsy valance sheet, a little too shiny

Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Razor with Flexball Technology Plus 3 Blades
Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Razor with Flexball Technology Plus 3 Blades

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp, precise and safe, 28 Mar. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My other half tends to use a mach3 but was interested in trying this razor out. He's not hirsute; but as he only shaves once per week there's a modest amount of growth to remove. His comments on this razor. The ball action definitely results in a smoother glide across the skin, it's easily manoeuvrable and can remove hair without having to resort to gurning. He states that his skin feels less abrased after shaving and he only uses a balm afterwards to moisturise rather than alleviate any burning or rashes. He also stated that he has yet to cut himself using this razor. My comments. My fella has lovely smooth smoochy skin.

Dragon Marked: Supernatural Prison #1
Dragon Marked: Supernatural Prison #1
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars "Supernatural Prison" series book 1, 28 Mar. 2015
Wolf shifter Jessa; the daughter of the alpha werewolf and currently in training to take over the pack, is on a mission with her 4 best friends to locate a secret (well secret from humans) high security prison where misbehaving supernaturals are locked away. Her 4 best friends just happen to be quadruplets that somehow contain the soul of a different supernatural race. Braxton is the most protective of Jessa; but she puts that down to the fact that he's a dragon shifter. Then there's Maximus the vampire, Jacob the fey and Tyson the wizard.

Well they all become intimately acquainted with the prison they hunt for; when the Compass brothers are set up for murder and Jessa is found breaching prison security. Add to this Jessa is recently reacquainted with her estranged mother, discovers she has a sister and finally learns about the actions taken to hide what she and her sister are shortly after their birth.

This is a great start to a new paranormal fantasy romance. There is a slight undertone of romance; as one Compass brother clearly has deeper feelings than friendship towards the feisty Jessa) however the plot is more action driven plus the world building and the introduction of a large cast of different supernatural characters takes precedence. The plot has some intrigue and whilst some of the mystery of the "dragon mark" is revealed, there is still plenty left to uncover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected, 28 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wanted a complete luxurious looking beige and/or cream bed set and thought that this suited my requirements perfectly. Unfortunately it did not. Firstly the colour isn't beige at all - it's instead a gold embellishment on a cream background (luckily this colour scheme still works with my bedroom décor). My next issue was the initial appearance. There were loose threads on every item which required snipping. Lastly, I wanted a matching valance sheet to cover the unco-ordinated blue bed base. This valance sheet is a good size but it's very flimsy and transparent, and the blue bed base still shows through. Luckily the bedspread is large enough to cover this.

Yet when I made up the bed I've got to say I was very pleased with the overall effect despite the materials being a little shinier than anticipated. Hopefully this will tone down after a few washes. The matching neck pillow, standard pillow and cushion are well padded and fairly comfortable whilst the bedspread is soft, warm and plush feeling. Negatives aside, I'm happy with this bedding set.

Pros: Overall effect is very appealing, pillow and cushion are very plump
Cons: Colour not as advertised, lots of loose threads, flimsy valance sheet

When Women Were Warriors Book I: The Warrior's Path
When Women Were Warriors Book I: The Warrior's Path
Price: £0.00

3.0 out of 5 stars "When Women Were Warriors" series book 1, 14 Mar. 2015
This book has an old school feel and reminded me of the female partnerships found in books by Jane Yolen or Mercedes Lackey. I initially thought the relationship imbalanced between Maara; the taciturn and ostracised seasoned warrior and Tamras; the stubborn and naïve companion/apprentice warrior. Tamras initially appears significantly weaker; in fact her slight stature is often commented upon, yet she's quick and wily with an innate wisdom that steers the more experienced women around her in the right direction.

Tamras normally has a tale to tell when women were warriors (and still are) that emphasises a point or inadvertently opens the listener's eyes to something new. In fact these tales drive the story line, as apart from the odd drama not much really happens as Tamras undergoes her apprenticeship and tries to win the affection of a warrior that doesn't really want her around.

I thought that there was definite potential here, but with the lack of anything exciting happening in the story line that really caught my attention, plus what I felt was a rather pedestrian paced plot, I don't plan on reading any further books in this series. I prefer something much punchier that grabs my attention and glues me to the pages; "The Warrior's Path" failed to do this.

Love Without Boundaries (Tornians)

4.0 out of 5 stars Love knows no boundaries, 14 Mar. 2015
"Love Without Boundaries" is a 3 novella anthology that I initially snapped up for MK Eidem's offering, but was left well entertained by all the short sci-fi romance stories which featured.

Oryon by M K Eidem ("Tornians" series book 3.5)
This novella centres on Lord Oryon and Lady Isis, the unusual Tornian couple who feature in book 1 "Grim". This short story reveals how the arrival of a human into their society impacts their relationship and how they interact with their people. 5 stars

Mate Search - First Contact by J A Hornbuckle (Prequel to "Mate Search" series)
Leah has no idea she is falling in love with an alien until the universe decides to announce that they belong together. Rykhan is horrified to learn Leah may be ill, yet her strange new tattoo isn't a symptom of something sinister but a sign they belong together. 4 stars

Mating Urge by Michelle Howard
Elliana is on the run and desperate to prove her innocence of false criminal charges. She may manage to escape on a space ship, but it just happens to house Aran T'Kar; a male shape shifter who has entered his mating cycle and finds her irresistible. 4 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Others" series book 3, 14 Mar. 2015
*** warning - contains spoilers if you haven't read book 2 "Murder of Crows" ***

In the third book of this series the movement known as Humans First And Last has gained momentum, and therefore begins to draw the attention of the terra indigene that normally have absolutely no involvement or interaction in human affairs and could exterminate a troublesome species without pausing for breathe. Humans have forgotten that it is not only the Gards (shape shifters) and Sanguinati (vampires) they should fear. The Elementals now involve themselves with anything to do with their Meg, plus their ponies prove just as destructive if someone they consider a friend is endangered. Yet there are species far more deadly turning their eyes and anger towards the human race, and look unfavourably upon the troubles they are causing and the disturbing actions they take against the Cassandra Sangue (Blood Prophets).

Following the events in book 2, Meg Corbyn (trailblazing Cassandra Sangue) is tasked with writing an idiots guide to Blood Prophets in the hopes of helping newly freed girls survive a world outside the restricted and very structured lives they have previously led. There are shady characters that want the Blood Prophets in their clutches, plus they are determined to undermine the absolute authority of the terra indigene in any possible way.

The more terrible creatures that inhabit this world are only alluded to but the fear that strong terra indigene display even when indirectly dealing with them make the reader wonder exactly what they are and what they are capable of. In fact my only gripe with this book is that I would have liked a larger appearance from them and the Elementals. Again expect some emotionally wrenching scenes, with moments of humour, whimsy and fun that this author can spin so convincingly even during starker moments in the plot. AB continues to wow me and has yet to be dethroned from my personal top spot of most favourite author; a position she's held for over a decade now.

Burn (Dragon Souls Book 2)
Burn (Dragon Souls Book 2)
Price: £2.34

4.0 out of 5 stars "Dragon Souls" series book 2, 14 Mar. 2015
In book 2 of this series, Marina is still undergoing quests as a Chosen to earn the right to marry the man she loves; Koen the future emperor of the dragons. Again enemies abound whilst key characters whose relationships with Marina blossom prove impactful.

The story line is absolutely fabulous; the characters are great, there are wonderful emotive scenes and some great action. I did however find the actions of a character I liked really unappealing despite the good reasons behind this particular action, and wonder how this author will repair the reputation of this character.

Now for the negative. I normally ignore the odd grammatical error, but when a book is particularly poorly edited and the errors impact on the reading experience, then I become annoyed. It's a good job that this book is so good; otherwise the star rating would have been lower as the editing in this book is appallingly bad. That aside, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for book 3 "Ash" when it is published later this year. Let's just hope a better eye has been cast over it during the editing process.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Dragon Souls" series book 1, 14 Mar. 2015
Marina had a strange upbringing; her mother insisting she learn to fight and be strong enough to face her fears. She still mourns her mother's death, but remains somewhat grounded by the strength of her friendship with best friend Cathryn. Marina keeps herself somewhat isolated, but left close to a nervous breakdown when her mother unexpectedly died, Cathryn thinks she's finally tipped over the edge when Marina states she's helping to heal a wounded dragon.

Marina is far from mad; instead she witnesses Koen; future emperor of the dragons, tumble into her dimension to escape from a deadly female that hunts him. Unaware of his status, Marina falls in love with the dragon, but finds his human form arrogant, annoying and seriously hot. They may fall in love, and Koen may realise that she is his destined Treasure, but in no circumstances would he ever allow Marina to travel to his dimension and compete in a number of deadly quests as a Chosen to prove she is worthy of him. Marina of course has other ideas.

I loved this book. There is some great action, romance and adventure as Marina not only competes to win the man she loves, she turns this new society upside down with her unusual appearance, attitude and unexpected responses to situations. She may be considered the weakest Chosen, but absolutely no one is getting their hands on Koen but her. Additional characters also add to the drama, and the relationships they develop with Marina add both humour and tears to the unfolding adventure. I've already read book 2 in this series and I highly recommend both books to fans of dragon romance.
