1.0 out of 5 stars Bad film!!!, 5 Jan 2014
This review is from: Argo (DVD + UV Copy) [2013] (DVD)
Way overrated film.....America always seems to come through successfully in the movies....what a shame
that in real life this is not so true! Example in the news today: the violent, disastrous and predictable
fall of Fallujah (Iraq). Didn't America learn anything from the Vietnam fiasco??!!
But back to this film: not worth wasting your time (or money) seeing this movie.....can't believe that it actually
won the best picture Oscar!!! But I guess America had to make itself feel good about itself in some way looking back
years after the debacle of the Iran hostage affair under the Carter administration. So the film industry promotes this pabulum to the gullible American public!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous set of stories!!!, 28 Dec 2013
I cannot recommend these books highly enough.....they are wonderful!
I read the entire series to my young son many years ago.....he was
totally entranced by the lives
of this pioneer family.....and it is good for children nowadays to read how
children lived when there was no television, computer games, a refrigerator
full of food....in other words, when life wasn't so easy!!
He especially liked the book the author wrote about her husband's childhood
'Farmer Boy'! Hopefully still available in book or audiobook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent film, 15 Dec 2013
This review is from: Syriana [DVD] [2005] [2006] (DVD)
This was an incredibly insightful film.....considering the mess that America has created in the Middle East with various invasions, blind support for the obscenely wealthy oil-producing Saudis, the corrupt military industrial complex and CIA intrigues....I was not at all surprised when this film was 'disappeared off the radar screens' soon after it came out.....and now has such a low rating here!!!??? Certainly many Americans....most are 'brain dead' with regards to their country's mistakes and international incompetence and waste.....would perhaps not be able to understand this film which is a vicious punch to the solar plexus of the viewer!!!! It leaves one thinking long after viewing......but most Americans are incapable of that mental effort and so have perhaps just put it down to a 'bad movie' experience!!! No Superman or IronMan or Lone Ranger waltzing in to save humanity!!!
I advise that all should see this film....it probes the shadows of current affairs that are worth considering.....

1.0 out of 5 stars Lost opportunity....., 22 Jun 2011
This review is from: Red [DVD] (DVD)
Did I miss something here????
GREAT cast totally misused in this idiotic script!
I watched the beginning and then had to run it through
to watch it patchwork until the finale....
What a bore!!! Surely with such an accomplished
acting team this film should have been of much
higher quality! Don't waste your money.....or your
time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent documentary!!!!, 1 April 2011

If you want a clear picture of why we are so badly off now
with world-wide economic problems, watch this film!
Excellent explanation of the 'BIG STING' (remember Paul Newman and
Roberto Redford's film?!?!?) that has been pulled off by the
HUGE banking interests against the people.....in America and
worldwide!!!!!
The Bankers duped the public (and continue to dupe the public)
receiving obscene bonuses for ruining the economies!!!
It is an incredible true story.....very well made!!!
I saw it when it first came out and was very impressed!!!
Wait 'til you hear some of the bankers and economic 'whizzes'
who have been in charge of our money and investments talking
about and explaining the crisis!!!!
Any intelligent housewife could do better and be more honest
in her dealings with clients and the public!!!
It is frightening that some of these people are still in charge
and continue to run major banks, or teach in prominent universities,
or manipulate public funds!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent WWII Film, 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: Cross Of Iron [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this film in Paris when it first came out and was
blown away by how good it was.....a WWII movie from the
point of view of the Germans. Coburn was very fine as the
main character....
Since then I have often wondered why this film has
simply disappeared and been forgotten?? Glad to see
that it has some fans today.
I have just watched 'The Americanization of Emily' with
Julie Andrews and James Garner. Together with this film
they are two anti-war movies that take on the uselessness
and cost of wars....even the 'good' war that was supposed
to be WWII.

1.0 out of 5 stars No...no....and no......, 26 Mar 2011
I love cinema and therefore find it so very strange that this
is one film that I just couldn't watch....I actually left the
movie theatre halfway through......and I NEVER have done that
before!!!! I just didn't like it at all!!!! Who knows why...so
many people seem to think it is a 'masterpiece'!!!
On the otherhand, my son thoroughly enjoyed the Bjork concert
in Rome that he attended......

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant romantic film with a message...., 16 Aug 2010
This review is from: Adam [DVD] (2009) (DVD)
This film helped pass the long hours on a flight across the Atlantic.
Although not a masterpiece, I really enjoyed it and found it to be a
well-done, informative story about Asperger Syndrome.
I recommend it highly.
