4.0 out of 5 stars A Qualified Recommendation, 12 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The remastering is pretty remarkable, the episodes have never looked better. However, beware the packaging. It is atrocious and totally impractical, it really is an insult to the consumer. Best to remove the discs and house them elsewhere. If you can afford the separate season sets then that's the option to take, but the quality of the series on the discs themselves is a revelation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Upgrade, 14 July 2013
Its remarkable the effect that vidfire has had on the quality of the picture in this upgrade of this enthralling Who classic. Along with the fascinating Lost in the Dark Dimension documentary, this is really a recommended purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable transformation of classic Who thriller, 3 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Its quite staggering to note the effect colour has when you revisit this story. What was a fairly effective thriller in its black and white incarnation now comes vividly alive via the colour restoration process that has been undertaken. This is the most successful colour restoration of Who I have seen, putting Planet of the Daleks, The Daemons. The Silurians, The Ambassadors of Death and Terror of the Autons to relative shame: these were all of course very successful restorations, however the work on The Mind of Evil just makes all these pale into relative insignificance. Now more than ever, its a gripping thriller, which you can now see in a fresh entrancing new light after all these years for the first time, regardless of whether you have experienced it before or not. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impresssive reconstruction of the edited second half, 29 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whats really impressive with this release is the reconstruction by Ian Levine of the last two original episodes, originally re-edited into a single 26 minute episode for transmission in 1964. The production of the original unedited script in this version completely re-frames the story, making it a far more enjoyable character piece. This is a story I didnt rate terribly highly in its broadcast version - experiencing the original unedited script in such a lively and imaginative fashion, as carried out here, is a major improvement. A really worthwhile endeavour and this comes highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Storybook-like packaging for gem from childrens tv, 14 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What immediately strikes you about this release - ( the compilation release from August 2012) - is the very appealing packaging - its like a hardback book, effectively a storybook with each series having a separate section at the front and the back, and a touching essay from Gail Renard (script editor and writer on the series) in the mid section, between the two series sections. There are a selection of photos in this section , as well as an episode guide. Have just started watching the episodes , and boy, do they take me back. The discs appear to be the same as the previous individual series releases from earlier in the year. Entertaining and very watchable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining film, but the Blue Dolphin transfer is atrocious ..., 5 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Blonde Fist [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
This is a very entertaining film, Margi Clarke is in her element, and although not up to the standard of Letter to Brezhnev, it is worth seeing. However, this release by Blue Dolphin is really incredibly bad, the picture lacks clarity and is often blurred, very much like an old VHS tape that has been left lying around for years. Its really not an acceptable standard for 2011, and unless you really really need to see this film, and you dont mind in what condition it is, then you're advised to avoid this atrocious transfer by Blue Dolphin. They really should be ashamed of themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific blu-ray, 25 Mar 2010

Absolutely stunning picture and the 5.1 soundtrack is just incredible. For a tv series more than 40 years old this is an incredible remastering. Thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great drama (first four series only), 20 Nov 2009
Great to see this refreshing drama, and honestly - series 5 not being available is at least a mixed blessing - as the fifth series completely lost focus, and was notably running out of steam. For me, it nearly ruined the memory of such a great show, so in fact I disregard series 5 - the first four series are what makes this series magical.
