5.0 out of 5 stars History..., 1 July 2007
The reviewer "Dreddhead" below has it completely wrong, if he really understood Dredd and his world he would know nothing ever turns out to be black & white, it's just part of the stoicism that Joe Dredd projects. The dichotomy at Dredd's core is the real story. I'm not going to bother wasting my time pointing out the obvious flaws in all his points. Go read Origins. it's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars LONG OVERDUE A NEW REMASTERED RELEASE., 26 Oct. 2006
This review is from: Grand Necropolitan (Audio CD)
I think this album can still be downloaded from himself's old website, if not seek it out anyway you can. It's a beautiful, labyrithine album containing moments of bliss, self-hate, love, joy, the odd mid-life crisis, modern real estate, decaying cities, political intrigue & then there's the music.

Recorded for a mere pittance in musical subterra. It's a testament to musical faith.

It would be nice if it could eventually be remasterd with full printed lyrics etc. That's a hint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Ireland wrapped in an enigmatic song cycle., 26 Oct. 2006
This review is from: Foburg (Audio CD)
This 2006 album by Cathal is closest musically to his first solo album "Grand Necropolitan". It is both sprawling and compelling seducing you to become more aquainted with the story. The sound recording far excells his previous albums except maybe Black River Falls. There are not many songwriters that can pull this type of thing off with such a high level of conviction and self-belief. Cathal makes it seem effortless.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD, BUT BUILT ON PAST GLORIES., 3 Oct. 2004
The Mars Volta owe a debt of artistic gratitude to these other bands and albums:
King Crimson: RED, STARLESS AND BIBLE BLACK.
Voivod: DIMENSION HATROSS
Mansun: ATTACK OF THE GREY LANTERN, SIX.
Peter Hamill: SOLO STUFF & VAN DEGRAFF GENERATOR.
Mars Volta are certainly accomplished, facinating and honest but not new. I think they should lose the silly, vague & lazy narratives too.
