3.0 out of 5 stars Inferior to it's predecessor, 25 April 2014
I usually don't mind a few tweaks to film adaptations, the stuff added to the last hobbit film wasn't too bad at all but the changes made to this film don't even make sense. Orcs running around in daylight, elven love-interests, and that stupid gold statue thing just left me saying 'eh?'. Loads of chunks of the plot don't make sense in this adaptation, not to mention the lovely lighter tone of the hobbit is ruined by making it overly dark and lord of the ringsy. Plus, in a world that is different because it is predicated on the use of magic, why are the magical elements consistently downplayed, like the many many groups of sentient talking animals missed out. Plus, Beorn is one of the best characters in the book, their interaction with him is hilarious and whimsical, an enjoyable break between the more arduous parts of the journey, yet Jackson ruins this by making his character an unpleasant and serious one, just another tedious piece of adversity. Ruined. And the dwarves still don't look dwarfy enough, damn pretty boy Thorin,

4.0 out of 5 stars I do love it but..., 3 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Attack on Titan 11 (Paperback)
This book seems to promise answers, it has some really great fight scenes in it, but when there is a conversation that seems to promise actual information, it is deliberately vague and stretched out, providing none of the answers it seems to promise despite the fact it lasts at least half the book. The overuse of suspense-building writing styles detracted from the latter half of the book, which as previously mentioned, was a very long conversation which in actuality contained no new information, so at least some questions better be answered in the next volume because the last conversation was a bit dull and vague. However, the fight scenes are epic, the plot even more intriguing, just overly dragged out to make you desperate for the next volume.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uncertain, 3 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The repeated content and generally inferior (to the original series) storyline don't justify the book being so costly in comparison. The idea of the titan-worshipping cult seemed promising but was underplayed so the actual focus of the story wasn't really what I was expecting based on the description. It certainly had potential, but frankly the idea that a kid who doesn't eat people and just looks like a kid could be considered a titan by anyone, never mind by people who have seen actual titans, is kind of stupid and implausible.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the tedious 'just for girls' Ghibli's, 3 April 2014
This review is from: Arrietty [DVD] (DVD)
In my opinion, the whole film sets the scene and condition for borrowers but there is little actual plot, spending over an hour to establish that life is difficult for little people, and then they leave, isn't a riveting masterpiece or sufficiently gripping storyline for me, and frankly doesn't slightly compare to titles such as Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, But if you liked Kiki's Delivery Service, you'll probably like this

1.0 out of 5 stars Neither plug nor stopper, 3 April 2014

It doesn't work, it isn't a plug, doesn't cover the plug, doesn't stay fixed in the bath, completely fail to see what kind of functionality this product has, just paid nearly a tenner for a useless rubber duck

5.0 out of 5 stars love the whole series, 16 Jan 2014

This review is from: Attack on Titan 10 (Paperback)
This book definitely answers some questions you might have from reading the last one, although of course it raises a good few more. Really surprising turns, good character development, but maybe a bit too much going on and with a while to wait til the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Redeems the good name of vampires, 21 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This series is one of my all-time favourites, with an interesting yet easy-to-follow plot, this series is full of epic violence that has restored my faith in the vampire genre, and with practically no romance in it, it is all the more watchable. In my opinion, this set contains the best volumes of the series to date, and having watched the previous episodes you tend to think it can't possibly get any more epic, but it does! THIS product is amazing, but if you intend on collecting the full season when the final 2 episodes are released, I must advise against it, as episode 10 proved to be the most disappointing ending to one of the best seasons I have ever watched.

... is amazing
epic fights, interesting story-line and awesome characters.
don't be put off if you've watched the anime series, the disappointing ending isn't included in the manga story and a lot of the crazy back stories aren't included.
the only thing I dislike about this series is how long I have to wait between volumes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome artwork, 4 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was really happy to find something like this with artwork based on the books rather than being pictures from the series, just because the books extend so much further. I only really bought this product because not all the pictures were shown and I needed to know what the rest of the pictures were! Spoilers for people who haven't read all the books, love it.
