Not actually an Honor Harrington novel, 30 July 2013
People often compare Honor Harrington to Horatio Hornblower, thankfully Hornblower never got involved in international politics.
Admiral Harrington is really only a bit part in this publication. The majority of the book (I did not actually count pages) seems to be set in the Solarian league, and plenty more still outside of the Star Empire. There are a great many characters who just sit around and talk. Very little action, and what there is largely involves the other guys getting blown away with barely a shot fired (or at least viable) Some of the best action sequences turn out to be simulations.
We all love to see the David standing up to Goliath but it is not a lot of fun to watch a clever bloke beating up on a big idiot. Think Mad Max beating Blaster.
If this had been the first Weber book I had read it would probably have been my last. In fact, I probably would not even have bothered to finish it.
