Excellent book revealing the mobs creative ways to export cocaine and export and hide there gains and shins a light into areas were you would consider many goverments are complicit in the laundering of narco profits. Enlightening and engaging and essential if you want to see into another side of the world finance in its most ugly colours

1.0 out of 5 stars a disappointing read, 21 Aug. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
a novel pretending to be full of deep messages and truths but lacks the writing skill to impart the vague message of togetherness or of choice in fates or how you can change yr future its very lazy with the way it "links" religions an easy way a boring and disappointing read

1.0 out of 5 stars style over substance, 16 Jun. 2008
as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

5.0 out of 5 stars a short and sharp way to expand your thinking, 14 Jun. 2007
This review is from: Franny and Zooey (Paperback)
this book is an excellent book about everything and nothing the families interactions and comic or tragic short comings are wonderful to read and the philosophical discourse colors the story wonderfuly.

i can recommend it came as a surprise as how good it was as many authors from the same time haven't stood up to the test of time well.

3.0 out of 5 stars a true picuture, 11 Jun. 2007
This review is from: Post Office: A Novel (Paperback)
this is a book that fully conveys the banality and hardship of working in a backward looking place, such as a postal service, the seniority issues and sports obsessions and deranged managers all ring true. he doesn't treat his women well and some of them definitely have mental health issues, its good take on menial work and the characters you meet in such places

3.0 out of 5 stars Rehab and back and back, 11 Jun. 2007
This review is from: Scar Tissue (Paperback)
This book is an interesting travel through Anthony kiedises some what mixed up background and a great trawl through growing up in public and living continually in the seedy sleazy side of life. It well written in its own way for a rock star it is naive and short of any learning curve for a substantial period in the book. There is comedy which isn't always intentional, the spiritualism and lack of self awareness are both unintentionally funny an i guess axiomatic in being a addict of any kind. It is still a great read and you will enjoy reading about the fallouts mishaps and misadventures the chilli's have while recording there albums. The George Clinton production episode was a story i would be happy to tell my grandchildren...Even if you aren't a fan of the red hot chili peppers as it good story which shows how are errant father can impact truly negatively on a child's life. And gives a good account of the post punk scene in LA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funky People, 19 Feb. 2007
Blaze are from New Jersey and have been cutting house records endlessly since the mid to late 80's, this compilation it a selection of there 12"'s (mostly US releases) from the 80's to mid 90's. The stand out tracks for me are "My Beat" which is a felia kuti like bit afro beat laden funk, "Funky People" is a hypnotic track which is driven by wonderful guitar and keyboard vamp. For the romantic natured "Fantasy" is track where the spirit of Barry White gets revived for this sweet and soulful track. "Directions"is a great track as well, it is dominated by a swirling and psychedelic keyboard solo.

If you like vocal driven house or jazz tinged instrumentals this is an album for you

1.0 out of 5 stars do not buy, 19 Feb. 2007

This program is fault ridden and Norton seem to know it, the up date patches wont work even if you have a broadband connection. You have to a control+alt+delete to stop it from up dating and up dating and up dating.

It constantly works in the background while you may be doing important work and is very lightly to crash your PC or Laptop at some important point.

I have deinstalled Norton completely has there was no adequate help from the manufacturers and no real way to solve the clunky and clumsy nature of the way it seems to have been written

Do not buy !!
