A bit small compared to other compasses but sturdy enough and does the job. Excellent value for the price.

Cat Cartoon-A-Day: 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that funny, 17 Nov. 2011
I had a quick look through the cartoons in this calendar. They are reasonably well drawn and look fine on the kindle screen. the main problem I had was that I didn't find them particularly funny. I am glad it was free as I would have been disapointed if I had paid for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining idea, 5 April 2011
This book is quite difficult to describe as it is a mix of stories, ideas, advice and opinions on various subjects. It's a very light hearted and funny read, and it feels a bit like having a chat with someone in a pub. I particularly liked the story of the funeral for the person that nobody liked.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost completely about US beers, 18 Mar. 2011
The cover claims that this is about inspirational beers from around the world. Apart from a mention of Guinness from Ireland and a handful of Trappist beers from Belgium, the rest of the beers are brewed in the US.

This is a shame because it could have been a good book about America's independently brewed beers. Each day of the year has a different beer with information about the style and flavour, and suggestions for food that woul make a good acompaniment. There are also beer related quotes and beer facts. However the author clearly knows far less about international beers than about US microbreweries. For example there isn't a single German beer, not even in October!

They say you should write about what you know. When you only know American beer, don't try to write an international beer guide.

The n00b Warriors (Book One)
The n00b Warriors (Book One)
Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and original idea, 26 Feb. 2011
It took a while to fully get into this book but it was definitely worth persevering with. The basic premise is that there is a civil war in the US. The war has degenerated to the point that kids are being drafted in to fight,

While the story seems simplistic at first, it gradually develops into a sort of futuristic Catch-22. There were some parts that seemed a bit contrived (for example the concept of the Golden Wii) but for the most part it was quite thought provoking.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreadable, 19 Feb. 2011
As the other reviewers have stated, this is completely unreadable on the Kindle. Perhaps if each panel had been a seperate image ir may have been possible to read. Instead each page is a complete image so there is no way to make out what is going on. A real shame because somebody has put time and effort into creating this and it has been ruined by a stupid oversight.

William Walker's First Year of Marriage: A Horror Story
William Walker's First Year of Marriage: A Horror Story
Price: £3.49

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not great, 4 Feb. 2011
This book is written as a diary of the first year of marriage from a man's point of view. I found this book a bit irritating and it took me a while to realise why. I think it is partly because of the digressions that are dotted through the story, partly because I found the story quite predictable, but mostly because I think it is written to appeal to women. It's a man's idea of what a woman would like.

I could imagine it being serialised in a women's magazine. It's easy enough to read and amusing in place. I just didn't find it that gripping but I don't think I am the target audience.
