Unfortunately the item delivered was faulty and did not work at all - no power at the unit when plugged in and switched on. Happily a full refund was quickly issued. Shame because it looked better quality than some similar products on sale. It's also much bigger and heavier than others. Check the dimensions!

4.0 out of 5 stars but this book struck me as a a good basic reference work-cum-history-wildlife-travel guide combo, 17 Jan. 2015

This review is from: The New Forest (Paperback)
We've been visiting and exploring the forest for decades, so know a fair bit about it, but this book struck me as a a good basic reference work-cum-history-wildlife-travel guide combo. Dating from 2010, the book's chapters are History, Tales of Interest, Modern Legends, The Birds and the Bees (actually, all the main wildlife) and Enjoying the Forest. There is a section of colour pictures in the middle, mostly wildlife, but the pictures and illustrations elsewhere in the book are b & w, which is a bit of a shame, but then the book is not expensive. I haven't read it yet so can't give it 5 stars, but it looks to be a worthwhile addition the the bookcase at a very reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars This pocket size book is very nicely laid out, 17 Jan. 2015

This pocket size book is very nicely laid out, with clear text, nice colour photos and maps which are licensed extracts from Ordnance Survey mapping. Importantly it is a recent work, first edition being 2012, this edition with updates, from 2014. We've been walking the forest for decades, and some of our guides, whilst excellent in their time, are now very out of date. The forest, especially those areas that are commercially managed for timber, does change more than you might think over time, so a recent book is important. I havn't given 5 stars only because we havn't tried any of the walks yet, but there are several we don't know and it looks very promising.

5.0 out of 5 stars so I was happy to take the chance, 17 Jan. 2015

Couldn't find a new copy as it is out of print, so took a chance on this second-hand copy. Didn't know the supplying company, Fifth Avenue, but a quick bit of research on-line appeared to show that it is a subsidiary/sister company of Waterstones, so I was happy to take the chance. Very glad I did.. Condition was exactly as described. Basically as new apart from a fold in one corner of the cover. Compared with some others on offer at more than 3 times the price, good value too. Like the others in this series of "A-Z of Cars...", very thorough reference work with b & w photos and concise details of each model. Excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars This one might actually be better in red perhaps, 17 Jan. 2015

Usual IXO quality, very reasonable price, despatched and delivered promptly. Somehow, possibly the colour, this E-Type model doesn't have the same visual impact as the C-Type and D-type. This one might actually be better in red perhaps.

Quite big, could do with a bit more more shape actually, it's a bit flat, but it's well priced, attractive, and perfectly functional. Big bright union jake on one side, and plain blue on the other if your eyes need a rest. Despatched promptly and delivered quickly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Serious Bit of KIt, 24 Mar. 2014

I took the good advice and bought 2 of these, to use together with my Wood Grenades. The combination has yet to be defeated, even though I have been splitting sections of tree trunk about 19 inches diameter and 15 inches deep. These wedges are big, heavy lumps of solid metal and are clearly going to last a lot longer than I will. You can use them with a sledge-hammer if you need to but I am finding that, using the Wood Grenades first, I can do it all with a club-hammer, and I am neither big nor especially strong. As another reviewer wrote, they are not sharp enough to cut into wood by themselves, but they are designed to be used to open up logs which you have started to split with an axe (or Wood Grenade as I do). Good value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value Fun Reference, 24 Mar. 2014

Unlike the other, recent, more expensive book which doesn't cover the vintage stuff, this one lists everything practically back to the original Hengist Pod "Tri-Pod" (no, I made that up). To me, the vintage cars (BSA, Morgan, Framo…) are some of the best. Great to dip into, all sorts of things I'd never even heard of, from some very plausible modern efforts, to hilariously hopeless vanity projects. In his intro, Elvis does explain he set out to list as many as possible, even where there is little info available in some cases, but there are quite a few entries where the explanatory text is barely more enlightening than the picture caption - where there is a picture - which leaves you wanting to know more. It would have been good to have had some driving impressions for the more common cars, and the writing style is a little awkward in places - but that could be the kettle calling the pot black ;-). This is a rare delight and terrific value.

Basically bought these to make up the order to qualify for free delivery. I get through reading glasses at a fair rate and these looked about right. Very pleased with them. Better quality I think than some other, ah, "inexpensive" ready-readers and I like the black/blue tortoise-shell effect. Lenses are a bit bigger than some ready-readers too which is a good thing. Described as unisex, which must be right 'cos my wife has already nicked the sunglasses.
