Huguette Clark : The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark: Huguette Clark Biography
Huguette Clark : The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark: Huguette Clark Biography
Price: 1.87

1.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a book but a pamphlet - and one that is badly written., 12 July 2014
The first line in the 'Product Description' should serve as a warning: "Huguette Clark was worth over half a million dollars". What a joke - that should read "worth over half a BILLION dollars". Seriously, don't buy this turgid piece of rubbish.

oh dear. I fell for the raving reviews and decided to buy it - big mistake. Trudging through pages and pages of sentimental and patronising platitudes, I kept hoping that the book would finally reveal something original and of value. It didn't. Don't waste your money on this nonsense..... otherwise you deserve to be poor! I only gave it 1 star because Amazon won't allow zero star rating.

I couldn't put this down! A truly inspirational book - funny, poignant and occasionally dramatic, yet it is never maudlin or over-sentimental. Highly recommended. If you only read one book a year then make sure you buy this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer simplicity for great value, 27 April 2007

I had a Sony radio alarm clock very similar to this which I bought over fifteen years ago. I reluctantly got rid of it because the green light was too bright - it penetrated my eyelids when I was trying to sleep! But this little beauty has a DIMMER! You can have the clock backlight as very bright, or just turn it to 'low' when you need to sleep - perfect! Dead easy to set up - I did it in five minutes without reading the instructions [I rarely do anyway]. For under [...] this is excellent value. Handy to have two alarm setings and a weekend setting for those all important lie-ins. The sound is top notch - especially on FM. OK it isn't DAB [which in my opinion is over-rated anyway] and it doesn't have flashy lights or add-on gadgets - but who cares? If it gets me up in the morning to the sound of my favourite breakfast show then I think my little buddy and I will have many years ahead together - esp. with the dimmmer light on!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where are the DVD extras?, 13 Sep 2004
A much anticipated new release of a classic film - the movie is excellent [but nowhere near as good as The Godfther Trilogy - what could be???]. But I was sorely disappointed with this release. After having few extras on the 2001 version of the DVD I was looking forward to this new release. But why oh why did they bother? At least the 2001 version had the film trailer! But on this one? Zilch!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most moving films ever, 5 May 2004

Not many films can change the way you view things - but this one will. From the woman who slaughters rabbits for meat, to whole familes with young childen getting evicted on Xmas eve, to the end credits which say "This movie cannot be shown in Flint ........ because all the cinemas are closed down" this is one movie that should make you angry. Thank god for people like Michael Moore. I urge you to buy this DVD and show it to as many people as possible..... or urge them to buy it, now!

3.0 out of 5 stars Garbage - but great fun!, 8 Jan 2004
Words cannot convey how ludicrous, jingoistic gung-ho garbage this is; Rambo meets ET may be apt - but hey, if you want to turn off your brain for a couple of hours then this is great fun!!

They don't make films like this anymore and they don't have stars in Hollywood like Audrey anymore *sigh*
By this and laugh, weep and feel good!

An Introduction to Disability Studies
An Introduction to Disability Studies
by David Johnstone
Edition: Paperback
Price: 20.00

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD INTRODUCTION TO AN IMPORTANT SUBJECT!, 14 Nov 2003
This is an excellent book for those interested in reading a broad sweep of the subject of disability which is increasingly on the political and economic agenda in Britain. Whether you're disabled or 'able-bodied' this book is a mine of useful information, not just for students of disability studies [although this should be one of the standard course texts]. Mr. Johnstone is a lecturer of Disability Studies at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, Lancashire - it was the first college of Higher Education [as it was then] in Britain to recognise that disability merited a course subject in its own right in the same way that other 'minority groups' are rightly merited as valid subjects on their own. If you want to know how disabled people in Britain are treated today then you should buy this book.
