Had to buy a replacement as the original didn't survive being knocked off the kitchen worktop. Amazon service was fast and I'm delighted to report that my kitchen is once again graced by this classy and useful design. The mug is stylish to look at, easy to handle (the insulation means it isn't hot to hold from the start), while the silicone ring makes it easy to hold. Couldn't be better :)

Excellent! Classy design, dishwasher safe - I bought my first two Po mugs at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, so getting this one on Amazon was a little cheaper (although not quite so much fun). My kitchen is now graced by this design and the Mondri design, and I love these mugs with a difference.

Jangada: El: 3

5.0 out of 5 stars Appetising El - leaves you wanting more :), 18 Feb 2014

This review is from: Jangada: El: 3 (Paperback)
The story continues as Oran and his band of followers pursue the mysterious Liall into the unknown, with the legendary island of El looming on the horizon.
This third in new author Terry Greer's fantasy series punches above its weight, and I found myself totally caught up in the pace of the action and the new discoveries. Plenty of loose ends are tied up, but several more are created which, I hope, means there’ll be a follow-up: having invested some time in reading the three Jangada novels, and getting to know the characters, I’m left wanting to know what happens to those who haven’t met a grisly end.
Great stuff – a good end to a captivating series, and the tantalising thought of more to come makes for an appetising ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Controlling that inner chimp, 24 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good stuff - it might not be rocket science, but the author's way of presenting his programme is easy to follow and easy to recall - and it really does work if you're in the right frame of mind to control your inner chimp at moments of stress. It's perhaps most useful in understanding why others behave as they do in a given situation, and that has applications in every aspect of life, be it work, play or just day-to-day living.
I'd recommend the book - managing your mind isn't easy and it won't make you more able to cope overnight, but it definitely will show you ways to manage your inner chimp for success, general happiness and well-being - and, crucially, to understand others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full marks for a good read, 24 Dec 2013

This review is from: Jangada: Starcross: 2 (Paperback)
FOLLOWING on from the scene-setting first novel, this volume takes the reader into the unknown on a journey between floating islands aboard the strange vessel Starcross. Not only does our hero, Oran, have to cope with betrayal, deceit and attack, he and his band of followers also have to contend with storms, an other-worldly rival and the bizarre creature that powers the Starcross itself.
This is slightly more uneven in pace than the first, but any slowing down is eclipsed by the action, which is fast and inventive, and by the story which continues to intrigue. I did consider giving this 4.5 stars rather than five, but on balance - and from a new author - this is intriguing stuff, and I reckon it should get full marks.
Overall the anticipation carries on building, as the author reveals tantalising clues as to what’s behind Oran’s search and his mysterious opponent, and the volume ends with the biggest revelation yet. I'm looking forward to finding out how everything's resolved in the third volume :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing . . ., 18 Dec 2013

A NEW world and new ideas from a new author: Jangada promises much and delivers on all counts.
I didn't know what to expect with this first part of a fantasy trilogy, but I found the story to be gripping from the word go. The plot features murder, intrigue and more murder on the floating island of Haadrat, and it proceeds at a swift pace, with just enough new material - character backstory, intriguing elements (I particularly liked the lopes, the pin machine and the spindles) and a whole new world and culture - to keep the reader engaged throughout.
A great start to the trilogy: I was left eager to find out what happens next, and if the next two books are as good then I can see cult status for this series. Brilliant!

Brilliant: I bought the CD for Minor Swing, but there's a lot more that's worth listening to. A real treat, some beautifully evocative themes and superb performances.

Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
by Philip Pullman
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, 19 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice to have a collection of fairy tales together, with some interesting variations on the traditional tales. My only disappointment is that I thought Philip Pullman would have contributed a bit more in the way of analysis, but his contribution is limited to very basic comments on the stories and a mention of what he's done to each tale, which often isn't very much. So the book works as a collection of the stories, but don't expect any great insight.

It does what it says on the tin! A collection of Showstoppers from the first series, this gives the stars the chance to share the spotlight - everybody gets a solo - and it's packed with some great numbers. A must for Glee fans.
