5.0 out of 5 stars Take a look around you, 19 Dec 2009
This review is from: Objectified [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
I am not a designer. I originally came from a product development background before moving into marketing and digital consulting and got a lot out of this film; however there is something about this for everyone. Unless you're outside the modern world you interact with 100s of examples of product design everyday and this film helps you contextualise these interactions.

The film covers a whirlwind history of design together with some of the industry's leading lights, the unseen thread that hangs through their techniques is an almost zen approach. The most articulate and considered of the designers featured in the film is Deiter Rams the legendary head of design at Braun for almost four decades.

Finally the film starts to touch on the future impact of design, what does it mean in a digital world and a world of finite resources?

How Customers Think: Essential Insights into the Mind of the Market
How Customers Think: Essential Insights into the Mind of the Market
by Gerald Zaltman
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 17.93

5.0 out of 5 stars Great marketing food for thought, 20 Nov 2009
Zaltman's How Customers Think provides an easy-to-read work on consumer behaviour and market research. Illustrated with anecdotes from a range of brands Zaltman talks through the benefits and pitfalls of different research methods, together examples of the `law of unintended consequences'. Its a really easy read, I hammered through it on a business trip to Glasgow.

Buying in. The secret Dialogue between what we buy and who we are.
Buying in. The secret Dialogue between what we buy and who we are.
by Rob Walker
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Marketing bookshelf essential, 14 Nov 2009
I really enjoyed the way Rob Walker takes us deep under the skin of what a brand really means rather than what a marketing manager thinks that their brand is in the book Buying In. Walker decodes one of marketings great mysteries: what is it about Red Bull's marketing that makes it so successful.

Probably the most interesting part of the book however is the amount of time that Walker spends on the concept of authenticity. Authenticity partly comes from the attributes of the business, rather than just the marketing of the business and part of it comes from the way that the consumer interacts with the brand: what values and attributes that they put on it. It is this complex brew that gives a brand authenticity and engenders trust.

Braun Oral-B Professional Care 500 Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush with Precision Clean Brush Head
Offered by Robert Veith
Price: 59.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and clean, 11 Nov 2009
I was a bit skeptical about the idea of an electric toothbruch but I have really liked my Braun 500. It is easy to hold, nicely weighted for the hand and does a great job fast, without being too intrusive in your mouth. The replacement brushes are easy to get hold of. All in all, its a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kooky, but I liked it, 11 Nov 2009
This review is from: Kitaro [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the story of a spirit boy Kitaro and his guardian friends who combat evil ghosts. Think Casper the friendly ghost meets a samurai film uptown. It's better than it sounds, the concept was based on Japanese folklore. If you want an interesting offbeat film then Kitaro is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy for business travellers, 11 Nov 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Berlitz CD set is a handy way of getting up to speed especially if you travel at all in Asia knowing at least some of the host country's language is handy and appreciated. I am by no means stupid but find it really hard to learn languages. This helped immensel during a recent trip to Shenzhen in Southern China.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and convenient, 11 Nov 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Tefal Quick Cup does what it says on the tin providing boiling water on demand without having to wait for the kettle to boil. It has a small kitchen footprint and saves energy by boiling only what you need. I've used mine for a month and wouldn't go back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling anime, 27 Aug 2009
This review is from: Claymore Vol 1 & 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you like Blood The Last Vampire then Claymore is right up your street. The hero of this anime series is a young woman tasked with slaying other-worldly beasts and demons in an alternative reality reminiscent of the middle ages. The plot and the action rips along nicely with a mix of traditional anime and CGI.
