Residential Property Appraisal
Residential Property Appraisal
by Phil Parnham
Edition: Paperback
Price: £41.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A smashing book - worthy of a place in the bookcase, 21 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a smashing book for surveyors of domestic property. Clear, relevant and detailed enough, without being over-complicated. Phil and Chris have done a great job here and I've found the book helpful and a worthy edition to my company technical library.

Don't be put out by the 'residential' title; that is surveyor speak - this book will help surveyors, students and contractors with useful and accurate guidance, which is applicable to a wide range of buildings - recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars GAZA..... the brutal subjugation of the arabs, 3 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book offers a detailed look at the awful consequences of the wests unwavering support for Israel. A refreshing change from the biased sanitised flim-flam served up by the BBC, Fox news,CNN and ITN. Chomsky cuts through the web of Israeli propaganda and skilfully breaks down barriers to clear understanding. I was left enlightened and also deeply ashamed that my government and the taxes I pay are used to sustain this grossly unjust Zionist occupation and expansion. #FreePalestine

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes Nebosh a breeze, 11 Dec. 2013

This book was included in my course fee last year when I sat my Nebosh General Certificate.

It is a super tome, full of all the right information, neatly broken down in the correct sections for easy reference. An invaluable tool. I particularly like the section to the rear on relevant statutory provisions, which is great for looking up the law and pulling out valuable nuggets.

I put my distinction down to Nigel Deane of ND safety, who ran the course, but then again he did supply this book, which has remained a useful reference since.

Recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars The myth of the myth of rising damp..., 2 Dec. 2009
This review is from: The Rising Damp Myth (Paperback)
I was interested in this book because it's been mentioned by some surveyors as a thought provoking text.
In fact, I cold hardly contain my mirth reading this book. It contains nothing in the way of useful or logical information and just seems to be a tirade against 'the damp proofing industry' and everyone associated with it. The author really goes out of his way to insult the thousands of working professionals remedying damp problems in houses. No real evidence is used to back up his conclusions and the attempts at scientific justification are flawed and often contradictory.

I am reminded of the recent scare about the MMR vaccine, started by a doctor who suggested that autism was caused by the vaccine. He had no real evidence for his assertions, which were picked up by the media and caused measles to flourish and the misguided doctor to end up in front of a general medical council tribunal, charged with misconduct. It is so easy to get a bit of fame and notoriety by spouting nonsense; there is no fame in agreeing with the established view. This book is a great example of this method of self promotion.

If you really want to learn about damp and damp diagnosis try the PCA and BRE publications or Alan Oliver's Dampness in Buildings, plus Graham Coleman's web site, which is a goldmine of accurate information and proven methods.

This book is not a technical text at all; merely an essay in bad science.

Well, what can I say about this film?

I went to see it last night, on an Orange Wednesday, with Jonathan.

So, there's an unsettling start, with shaky news desk style images and rather plain people chatting about `what happened'. We then get introduced to this obnoxious character who is propelled into an important job by nepotism; via his father-in-law. Hints are given about the `dumb' aliens and their `disgusting' habits and we see the lawlessness of District 9. Bigotry, fear and loathing are the order of the day as the `prawns' merely exist in their camp; slum dogs of an alien nation.

What a surprise is in store as our hapless anti-hero begins to change, for the better. We then get a treat of sci-fi sfx to rival any blockbuster and through it all a human/inhuman tale which provokes and inspires - in the same mould as Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?).

When it was over my conventional friend Jonathan said `well, that was weird'. Half the audience didn't get it either.

One of the best films I've seen in years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Star wars but more exciting, 31 Aug. 2009

Andrew's book grips from start to finish. It's full of fresh incites and gems of information. The story unfolds like a novel, yet never falters from the history, with lots of anecdotes from those involved. I particularly liked the way Roberts reveals the paranoia infecting the German high command as generals fought for Hitler's ear; a basic flaw in the Nazi command structure, which in effect lost the war for Germany; despite the undoubted superiority of their forces. Hitler is seen for the egomaniac he was, ignoring advice from his best staff and listening only to those toads who agreed with him.

The war in the pacific is well illuminated, a weakness for me up to now and after this book, I have a much better understanding of events in that theatre

It's hard to put this book down, whether you're a well read military history fan or a real newbie this book will entertain, shock and educate.

A gem of a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning optics, 31 Mar. 2008
This is Zuiko's prime piece of wide angle glass. Since I bought it I've become addicted to looking at the world through the viewfinder. The colour rendition is wonderful with bright colourful and contrasty images. The zoom range is unbelievable giving a standard 'wide' of a 28mm type lens and then a 14mm equivalent 'superwide' setting fully wound back (taking the four thirds crop into account). It's built like a tank and oozes quality. Buy one and you'll fall in love with it too. Worth every penny of the £1099.00 I paid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all round lens, 31 Mar. 2008
I own this lens and use it alot. The images are great and it's very well put together - feels solid and robust in the hand, with a nice zoom action too. The 'double' crop factor on the four thirds means it has a very handy range, and fast, for a zoom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crisp and contrasty images, 31 Mar. 2008
This is super lens, it's fast and crisp edge to edge. As a micro lens it's stunning. but I also use it for portrait and still life work, at which it shines too. A great buy.
