I was fourteen years old, my school in Luton arranged a visit to London to see Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. After the visit we were set loose and allowed to wander around the area for an hour.
Being pre pubescent boys we all made for the local record store where I gazed on the beautiful Viviane for the first time on a poster pasted on the wall and kapow! I was smitten. ( not very punk rock , Objectifying women I know, but it is what it is).
Afterwards I bought the records and loved them , and carried on in my sonic journey through life.
Many years passed and one day I stumbled upon a documentary on TV about Six Vicious where many of the anecdotal tales were told by Viv and again Kapow! I was a raging ball of fourteen year old hormones once more.
I decided to buy the book , to see where she had been all these years.
The punk rock period is such a long time ago now it was lovely to revisit my memories of the period and hear it from someone who lived it all on the front lines so to speak.
I think it's fair to say Viv has led a very interesting life touched by triumph and tragedy but her spirit and good humour shines through.

She's a great musician, a great artist and even now decades later has a smile that could light up Wembley stadium..

I hope she finds lasting love with someone but just in case , Viv I'm waiting!

Watched this as its one of my favourite Stephen King novels and have always pictured Anthony Hopkins as a perfect Ted .
The movie is based only on the first part of the book "Low men in yellow coats".
In the book all the parts are intertwined with each other which makes for a more satisfying experience.

The story is also connected to the world of the "Gunslingers" and the movie changes this to depict the low men in more of a CIA / FBI way.

Ted has a psychic ability and bonds with young Bobby Garfield in the apartment below and inspires him to read more ,employing him to look out in the neighbourhood for tier men who are after him.
He is a father figure for Bobby and a much kinder and sympathetic role model in his life than his mother, who is much nicer in the movie than the book where she's horrible ,which spoiled it for me a bit.

The tale meanders through the stereotypical life of a ten year old boy in early sixties America with Ted coming through for Bobby when his mother is unwilling.
There are some powerful and adult scenes that would be unsuitable for children.

I'm trying not to give the plot away but if you like " coming of age" stories with a touch of the supernatural then you'll like this.

The cast are excellent and its a great movie , sadly as with most Stephen King stories it's not as good as the book or even the incredibly good audio book which is amazing.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having bought a second hand BOSS BR-1180 with no booklet I thought id stump up the cash and buy this guide that had to come from the USA.
If you were thinking of buying it don't bother , I don't expect you, like I didn't, require endless pages on how best to mike up piano's and the suchlike?
The 25% of the book that tells you how to operate the recorder is OK but for the money not impressed whatsoever.

5.0 out of 5 stars NWOBHM BURIED TREASURE, 3 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having seen this most overlooked of NWOBHM bands live on numerous occasions in the 80's I have been yearning for this to come out on CD for years.
It's a quality album and still stands up to scrutiny over 30 years after its release.
Amazing guitar playing from Mike Scrimshaw and a great vocal performance from his brother Glenn with a cacophony of drums and percussion from drummer pat Coleman.
Although coming to prominence during the NWOBHM it is fair to say that the songs are more traditional fare , similar to Wishbone Ash or Rainbow rather than Iron Maiden or Saxon, maybe that's why they still sound so good today.
This album has been unavailable for years in the UK so enjoy it while you can , i'm sorry to say that their newer material which was to feature in the rumoured second album that has never surfaced was even better , maybe if the band are reading this they'll scrape together some old recordings and get them out there?
I live in hope.
Quality stuff from a quality band.

I've had a few Vintage brand guitars in the past from their bog standard "Les Paul" to the "Peter Green" and this Mick Abrahams copy is my favorite.
The build quality is excellent, but do yourself a favour , when you buy it take it to your local neighbourhood luthier and get him to set it up properly and slap on some 10's and away you will go.
Stunning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing stuff, 26 Jun. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Having recently bought a Nexus 4 smart phone I thought I'd give this a whirl and see if it made any difference improving my gaming experience / ability.
It already came with a free Pac-man demo so I chucked in a couple of AAA batteries, turned it on and bobs your uncle, gaming heaven!

The Moga has a sliding hook that attaches over the screen of your smart phone and holds the screen tightly and safely against the body of the unit.
The buttons are responsive and there are quite a few of them too, including bumper switches in line with where your index fingers would be when holding it.

One gripe is that I had real trouble shutting the battery compartment after fitting the new batteries but knowing me its the clumsyness of my fat fingers more than anything else.

Altogether a clever idea , with ample games to download via the associated app from Google play and at under £30 it's cheap as chips.

On and you get a cute little pouch to keep it nicely inbetween sessions.

Good stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars HOPELESSLY MISCAST HORRORSHOW, 28 Oct. 2012
This review is from: Rock of Ages [DVD] (DVD)
As a bit of a rocker at heart I sat down to watch this thinking , well at least if it's a bit of a turkey it'll have some decent songs in it.
Epic fail.

There are some good songs in this and there are some reasonable vocal performances (Particularly Mary J Blige who sings the ass off everybody else) but one cannot help but be dismayed at the casting.

The main protagonist Diego Bonita looks like he should be in a boy band at the beginning, sings like he should be in a boy band and we're supposed to be shocked when he ends up in a boy band in the end?

The female lead Julianne Hough becomes a pole dancer despite having the shape of a fourteen year old boy and the inability to dance wtf?

Russel Brand as Lonnie, a cockney playing a hybrid Brummie/scouse/mentally challenged, character with all the acting ability of a spoon.

Tom Cruise who's performace seems to revolve around the fact that rock stars drink a lot and sleep a lot and as such portrays Stacie Jaxx as a sleepy drunkard.

Honestly as the end hoves near you're just praying that someone does a "drive by" on them.

Absolute rubbish from start to finish during which some fine and some not so fine rock songs are murdered by no-marks and egomaniacs.

And the best acting is from a Baboon!

Lastly I've never seen Malin Akerman look so unattractive kudos to the hair and make up dept too.

Utter rubbish , save your money and buy the best of "journey" instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars YOU ARE ENTERING THE KINGDOM OF SUCKINESS, 29 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Lulu (Audio CD)
Recently I saw a little video clip of Metallica playing the Kinks classic "All Day And All Of The Night" or as Metallica would have you believe " Horl derhayarghgh and horl of the er nya haarrrrrrghhhhttt" so I was hoping that maybe this album would feature a retelling of "it's jerhusst a perherferhect derhayyyerrr" or maybe even "I'm werhayertingahurghggh for the merhannnnnner" but no such luck.

It is in fact much worse than that , it is the sound of a band so used to nobody telling them their recording output has been a steaming turd of mammoth proportions since the black album that they feel untouchable and able to sprinkle their own particular malevolent brand of fairy dust onto any old tosh for their legion of fans to lap up.

It's self agrandising cobblers from a dead band topped with the most ridiculous garbage that only a senile narcicist could conjure.

I remember watching old Tex Avery cartoons in my childhood where someone would plummet of a cliff with the smart alec remark,

"watch that first step it's a lulu"

This is what they meant. Avoid.
