This review is from: Trust Me, I'm Lying (Hardcover)
Excellent book. Should be a required 'text' book for those studying journalism/communications/public relations. Clearly illustrates how the media is manipulated by bloggers. Good example is Wikipedia manipulated and an unreliable source of reference controlled by faceless editors and administrators to meet individual needs and interests. Businesses and lives can be ruined by bloggers, and there is no accountability or transparency. The book exposes how the media really works and exploited for personal and/or corporate gain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wikipedia: Lacks Transparency and Accountability, 19 April 2014
"A Bunch of Nobodies......." This is the problem with Wikipedia. Editors and administrators are anonymous. There is no transparency or accountability. It is nothing more that a noticeboard for faceless people to edit. That is why students are warned by colleges and universities not to use it for research purposes. Wikipedia has had its hey day, and now more and more academics are waking up to the fact that it is unreliable, biased and many entries are contentious and self-promoting.

Supporting Students for Success in Online and Distance Education (Open and Flexible Learning (Paperback))
Supporting Students for Success in Online and Distance Education (Open and Flexible Learning (Paperback))
by Ormond Simpson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £24.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - Thought Provoking, 18 Aug. 2013
Online and Distance Learning is 'all the rage'. A few years ago it was 'frowned upon' by universities and not taken seriously. Students were worried that having 'Distant Learning' on their certificate would be negative for employment. Universities overcame this
concern by omitting any mention of online or distance learning in their drive to attract more and more students. Now that countries like the UK through the UKBA are making it harder for overseas students to fill 'bums on seats' to boost income, the focus has been on
off-campus study options either by online study or by establishing overseas partnerships. Academic quality has been swept aside in the chase for revenue. 'Cluster' teaching does not inspire many students who are thrown into mixed groups to watch a lecturer waffle on and on. Surprisingly, no mention is made of the online (individual) mentoring method used by Warnborough College where students have their own mentor and peer buddy for each module and for research. Their graduation/completion rate is near zero. Ormond Simpson in his next edition should look at this model that overcomes the major problems he discusses. The book is an excellent source for reference and is thought provoking.

Studying at a Distance: A guide for students (Open Up Study Skills)
Studying at a Distance: A guide for students (Open Up Study Skills)
by Christine Talbot
Edition: Paperback
Price: £19.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Reference on Distance Learning, 18 Aug. 2013
I enjoyed the book. It provides a lot of advice and tips on distance learning. It will need to be updated regularly since the market is changing rapidly with more and more universities offering online learning options. Students are finding it less expensive to take courses by distance learning and they can study at their own pace. A leader in distance learning Warnborough College uses the mentoring system where students work on a one-to-one basis which even gives greater flexibility. This was not mentioned in the book as another excellent option for students to consider.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lust and Love in Happy Valley!, 22 Jan. 2012
This review is from: White Mischief (Paperback)
The book was enjoyable, but the film was even better. Both illustrated the good life in Happy Valley while the world was at war. But who really killed Lord Erroll? This theme is taken a step further in "The Life & Death of Lord Erroll" by Errol Trzebinski (2000). It contends that it was arranged by a plot in Whitehall!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Women, 22 Jan. 2012
This is a must have book since it gives a lot of details about the life and times, and politics in Victorian England. Much of it is relevant today. Rachel Beer has been mostly forgotten. A sad story about an exceptional women well ahead of her time. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and Amusing, 1 Jun. 2011
A Life in Colourful Words is an apt title for this collection of poems by Ethyl M. Tempest-Mogg. They illustrate her love for life, wisdom, perceptiveness and humour. They are varied, thought-provoking, profound and amusing. Above all, they are entertaining and pleasurable to read.

Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Ethyl spent 25 years in Oxford, England where, in 1973, her impetus enabled the realisation of Warnborough College, which is now based in the historic university and cathedral city of Canterbury. Loved as the 'Spirit of Warnborough' Ethyl's vision changed many lives, and these poems illustrate her faith and gifted insight.
