4.0 out of 5 stars OK. Does what it says, but it could be so much better, 18 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Quick delivery. Fan noise++. Not really suitable for kitchen use as a result (unless you want a noisy ice maker). Ice cubes melt while in machine. If you put them into your freezer to keep them, they then stick together, needing to use mallet to break them apart. It defeats the object for any use of this machine other than parties

2.0 out of 5 stars Maybe Not So Good, 6 April 2012
Bought one of these from a reputable jeweller just over 4 years ago. Co-axial movement. I expected several years reliable service without any problems. I accept it needs servicing (Omega recommend every 5 years). I wear it every day, all the time. The watch has had no knocks or bangs. I wear it swimming, but have dived in it only once (Over 2 years ago). It stopped last weekend. I did NOT expect it to completely stop when only 4 years old. The watch now has to go back to Omega for repair. It will be with Omega for at least 6-8 weeks. The cost will be considerable (The guarantee is only for 2 years sir!). Another good watch could be bought for the servicing costs!
If you wish an expensive and good looking, but (Ultimately) unreliable watch, buy one of these. I would not buy another at the price Omega ask.

This review is from: Thunderbirds [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
My 4 year old loves this film. Given the chance, it would be on the DVD player 2-3 times daily. Sadly, this means that on occasions I have to watch it.
As an adult, I feel this film is woeful. Through the eyes of a boy, though, it is wonderful.
If you want your child to enjoy a film, this is a good and cheap purchase. As an original thunderbirds fan however, do not bother. It really is quite dreadful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, 12 Sep 2007
This product does exactly what it says on the tin.
It looks good. It is small, tough and silent.
My PC (XP Home) recognized it instantly, and I was immediately able to back up my data.
Why not 5 stars? I am unable to get any of the enclosed software to work, but probably do not need it anyway.
The drive is worth buying, however, in its own right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 21 Aug 2007
What a brilliant camera.
I have owned this camera for 2 years.
Excellent picture quality with both manual and auto modes.
It has excellent build quality. I have had no problems with it in 2 years.
The Eos 350d is a very fast camera in both good and poor light. It will take 3 photos per second in normal light conditions.
The enclosed lens is OK, but better photos can be achieved by changing lenses.
Download to the PC can be achieved easily with the enclosed canon software, but I prefer to use Google Picasa (Having used photoshop elements and album 2.0). The 8MP CCD gives plenty of scope for cropping and editing photos.
This camera will meet your needs if you want to just take simple pictures or get more involved in amateur photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful pocket camera, 21 Aug 2007
This is a wonderful little pocket camera.
I consider it to be one of the best products for its size on the market.
It gives very good picture quality with both still and movie mode.
In good light it is a fast camera, taking the photo almost immediately the button is pressed. In the flash mode, however, it tends to slow down considerably with a significant time between pressing the shutter and the photo being taken (Children and pets pose for only a short time!!).
This camera is perfect for taking snaps. It fits easily into a trouser pocket and is thinner/smaller than many mobile phones. It also takes excellent pictures.

3.0 out of 5 stars My 4 Year Old Loves It, 17 July 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Cars (PC/Mac) (Video Game)
My 4 year old loves this game.
The "Cars" film endears itself so well to a video game that a simple racing game was bound to result.
This game runs well on my 4 year old PC (With a 128MB ATI radeon 9800 Pro graphics card). The graphics are good and the sound excellent. The game music is limited and can become somewhat tiresome.
There are essentially 2 modes of play. These are "Arcade" and "Story" mode.
The story mode unlocks higher levels in both the story and arcade modes. If the levels are not unlocked they are not available in either mode (Very frustrating). As a result, evening game playing, when my son is in bed, allows him to open up new levels during the day.
As an adult, I have played MUCH better car racing games but none that my son enjoys as much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 17 July 2007

This review is from: The Black Parade (Audio CD)
This is the best new album I've heard in a very long time. To me, hearing it first was akin to my first listening to "The Joshua Tree" in the 80s and "What's the story, Morning Glory" in the 90s.
The Black Parade is up there with the very best.
Being a 40 something I know little about the various fashions/styles/trends in music at the moment. I care not that this is Emo music. This album should be judged on its own merit. It is musically and lyrically quite brilliant. There is not a bad track on it. I particularly like Famous Last Words at the end after a 1 minute silence.
I recommend this album to anyone (Young and old) who enjoys good music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, 17 July 2007

I bought these headphones for 49.99 through Amazon 2 weeks ago. I use them with an iPod video 30Gb. All my music files are recorded in MP3 format at 320Kbps.
The build quality seems to be good. I like the winder spool to prevent tangles.
The headphones need to have the correct size earpiece to create an airtight seal in your ear. Without this, they will give very poor bass response with a weak and "Tinny" sound. With the correct size earpieces the sound quality is pretty good, but not as good as my full-size Bose Quietcomfort 2 or full-size Sennheiser headphones. When the volume is pushed up, the bass occasionally distorts (On the iPod "Rock" equalizer setting)with a degree of treble sibilance. Mid-range performance is fair. The headphone performance has significantly improved with continued use (Running in).
For their size, The Shure E3c headphones really are very good portable headphones for iPod/MP3 player use. They do not, however, provide high quality HiFi sound.

This Thing Of Darkness
This Thing Of Darkness

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read, 31 Aug 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: This Thing Of Darkness (Paperback)
This book is really well worth reading.

It is historical fiction at its best. It largely follows the life and relationship/friendship between Robert Fitzroy and Charles Darwin, encompassing a wide geographical panorama. A major part of the book encompasses the voyage of the Beagle to the Tierra Del Fuego and Galapagos islands. Inevitably, this touches on some of the theories surrounding Darwin's Origin Of Species.

If you are worried this sounds very much like a scientific book, reminiscent of school biology lessons, rest assured this is not the case. This thing of darkess is a gripping and exciting read from beginning to end. It is written by an author at the peak of his powers. It outlines the lives of two of the greatest scientists to have lived (Darwin and Fitzroy) in both a vivid and extremely plausible way. It also provides a valuable insight into bipolar affective disorder (Manic depression) and the effects, both positive and negative, it can have on an individuals and those around them.

I was unable to put this book down from beginning to end. If you have any interest in science or literature (It was long-listed for the Booker Prize) this book should appeal.

It is with great sadness I read of Harry Thompson's premature death. Authors of his calibre are few and far between.
