3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Original series - Very poorly labelled, 10 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
WARNING - THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL SERIES that was released 2003-04. I did not realise this when I bought it so am not happy at all.

Let me be clear - if you have never seen the original series - then buy "Brotherhood" and enjoy it. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the best Anime series ever made.

But if - like me - you have seen the original series and want a copy for yourself - be warned that storylines and some artwork is very different.

WHOLE EPISODES ARE MISSING or out of order . . . while others have had the endings changed or completely different storielines.

I am furious that the packaging does not say this is NOT the "original" series . . adding the word "Brotherhood" to the title must be the way the distributors ease their concience . . very un-ethical in my view.

THE ONLY reason I am not happy about this set is because I was after the original . . .

If you have not seen the original, then I am sure you will like this series .... buy it and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best "zany" kids show ever -, 26 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Anyone with young kids - or anyone who is young at heart MUST get this series. It is a little bit crazy, a little bit spooky, a little bit zany and very very funny and entertaining.

Some of the editing is a bit off as the show was writen for TV and so there are burst of theme music at certain points in each show - a couple have not be cut very well . . . but this is small beans really.

The first two series are my favourites and there is a change of many of the players in the later series - but no fear . . . this is a first class piece of kids television.

My kids are all in their twenties now - and they talk endlessly about thsi show . . .I bought them each this box set . . .so christmas 2012 will be a delight for them all.

A great key ring and a great symbol - very solid metal and not likely to chip or crack easily. Am very happy with this.

When I openned the box set my four kids were sitting in the room - they were all in their early twenties.

To say they EXPLODED would be an understatement - and this is the level of delight and passion that this show has for those who watched it in earlier years.

The theme tune rocks and the charaqcters are great - a little corny perhaps for the current generation - but that just adds to the charm and appeal. The main villian, Mumrah, is one of the best ever with a great voice.

If you are a fan of cartoons on the eithies and nineties, then you must have this series in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oz with the Blues, 15 April 2012

This review is from: Growing Up in Public (Audio CD)
Anyone who has seen that classic series . . Auf Wiedersehen, Pet . . will immediately remember Jimmy Nail as the crazy, beer drinking slob . . "Oz".

This album is a galazy away from this fictional character.

Jimmy Nail has an amazing voice - in the higher register - and carries each and every song with style and class. Only the first track got major play on air and it is the only "uppy" on the album.

The other tracks are slower - more bluesy - and full of emotion and depth, carried beautifully on Jimmy's hauntingly smokey voice.

The first track may have been chosen as the single off this CD - but buy it - and listen to the LAST TRACK . . for me "Absent Friends" is just fantastic and equally entitled to be a single.

If you were a fan of Not The Nie Oclock News . . then you will immediately recognise many of these funny scenes and comedy songs. They have done a great job picking out all the pieces I remember and love.

If you have never seen Not The Nine Oclock News - then do not pass up on these discs. The humour has not aged at all and the brilliance of seeing these four artists in their prime should not be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best you will ever see, 27 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are just not enough words to praise this most excellent collection of films and I for one cannot think of a better seafaring series.

The box set is a meaty collection of films almost 2hrs each in length which provides over 13hrs of fine viewing. But the quality is what makes this a classic set to own.

The fine writting, the attention to detail of the language of the time, the amazing sailing ships, the world wide locations, the inter-mixing with real events and of course the excellent acting skills of the cast, with the still young Ioan Gruffuod and the seasoned Robert Lindsay, makes this one of the best series I have ever seen.

I had to buy a second box set cause my kids kept stealing my first one.

I you have any love or interest in the exploits of this character, or if you are a lover of tales of the high seas - then you should buy this set.

3.0 out of 5 stars A BLEACH clone - but at least this one ends, 27 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
To be fair - ALL and I do mean "ALL" anime shows have a non-hero, who finds he/she has a power and then starts an endless series of upgrades to fight ever more powerful enemies.

This show is no different and so should not be bagged for this - it has plusses and minuses.

On the down side the story is a bit thin and there is not enough of variety in the story line to make you feel eager to watch the next disc.

On the plus side it is a set length series and actually FINISHES. The battles do not always end in the death of the enemy and some of the characters are serioulsy weird. don't get me wrong - there is certainly so blood shed in the batteles, but less than some other shows.

I think the writters were just having a whole lot of fun with some of the designs - for goodness sake there is a serioulsy "camp" enemy character PAPILLION who walks around in a g-string for half the show. But he does add a lot of colour.

Buy this if you are wanting to introduce your kids to anime - but do not want the bloodshed of BLEACH and CLAYMORE.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the mature Manfred fan, 27 Jan. 2012

This review is from: Chance (Audio CD)
I had this album as a "cassette" in the 80s and I lost it. What a fool I was on two counts:

1 - for losing it . . . and . . . . 2 - for waiting 20+yrs to replace it.

I used to only have some early M/M songs - but this album is a galaxy away from their "Doo Waa Didi" days . . . very much in the theme of "Blinded by the Light" a couple of the songs even have similar chords structures ( why re-invent the wheel ).

I cannot recommend this album too highly - there is enough a variety in the songs to give it it depth, but a consistant M/M feel about them all. The first track "All Through The 80s" is just fantastic . . .

If you are a "Blinded by the Light" fan - then you must get this one too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little film - get it for the kids, 27 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Putting Superman and Batman together in a movie is pretty much a guarnatee of a good film and this one does not fail to please.

This film has a great story - cross overs with other super heros (not telling who) and some kick arse super baddies . . . . and of course Batman is always smarter than anyone else.

Aimed at younger viewers - for the price it is too good to pass up.

The kids will love it.
