3.0 out of 5 stars Great in many ways but so repetive and just not that much fun!, 8 Jun. 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
When I first got this game I was amazed by the graphics, the feeling and atmosphere of the city and the fun of the game play. I had been excited about the game for a long time and felt that it had been justified. Unfortunately after a lot of messing about I wanted to progress in the game and so got down to the nitty gritty of the missions, this is when I got bored and very quickly. The missions are the same over and over, drive here, kill this guy, blah blah. I haven't touched it in months and I think that says a lot, it just simply falls short on the level of fun it offers in the core game. It is not a patch on San Andreas which I think is the pinnacle of the series. It suffers from trying to take itself more seriously and be more gritty, which is not a criticism I though i would give but in retrospect I think it does suffer because of that. I got quite far into the game but it just felt like going through the motions and I really don't know when I will pick it up again, for a quick killing spree I probably will, but getting back into game progression is so forced it is almost chore like. The game engine is pretty sweet, I love the additions in combat like hiding behind walls and it has the best car chases of any game ever, as you would expect from GTA. I just think in the end, running through the missions can get pretty boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mindless B-movie style slugfest, 8 Jun. 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is lots of fun when playing with others, single player it is rather boring, frustrating and tiresome. Playing with the computer AI doesn't provide anything close to the pleasure of multi-player. Playing even with just one other player brings this game to life, at its best it is a lot of fun and i'm often left in stitches of laughter as I am ravaged by a hoard of viscous zombies. There is fantastic emphasis on teamwork as you are much better sticking together,if you branch out you will find yourself heavily outnumbered, which can be fun, but not helpful to the team. You will often be crying for help, in need of being revived, lifted off a ledge or saved from being clawed to death by the living dead. It is pretty repetitive, mindless and is like an interactive b-movie, it hasn't an ounce of originality and as a single player game is falls very short. There is however a lot of fun to be had playing with friends with split screen or on X-box live. I would definitely recommend this game if you have online capabilities or friends at hand to join in, other wise there are many other single player games which would be a better choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars They don't make them like this anymore, 8 Jun. 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
They really don't make adventure games anymore, especially not comedic adventure games. Grim Fandango which was a critical success and a commercial flop heralded an end to an era. Playing these games is only for those people who can still enjoy old games, out of date in many ways but still top quality for its time. The best of the lot is Space Quest 6: The Spinal Frontier, one of my favourite games ever, dated but very funny and highly enjoyable! Six great retro games for a very low price, can't go wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst series, 8 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Family Guy - Season 4 [DVD] (DVD)
This series it has to be said is pretty average and in some places rather poor. It is a very large step down from series 3 which was the pinnacle of Family Guy writing. The series as a whole does not begin to go downhill from here it actually improves with season 5 and then stays on a consistent plain. This is the dip in quality in my opinion, still funny but rather disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best tennis game on offer so far..., 3 Jun. 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Virtua Tennis 2009 is not revolutionary but basically the same as its predecessors with a few improvements. I did not however think there was much wrong with Virtua tennis 3 so it did not need any big changes. The movement of the players is much more realistic and it looks and feels more authentic and realistic. The gameplay is simple and arcade like, its all about your movement and positioning. It is by far the best tennis game available but I am hoping EA's game is good because I think it will have a more authentic feel to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, 17 Feb. 2009

This is the best football game available for the PSP. The gameplay is very impressive and it transfers well from the normal console. Good graphics and lots of fun- no 2 goals look the same!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unoriginal and in the end pretty laughable, 3 Jan. 2009
This review is from: I Am Legend [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
This film steals concepts from many other films and sellotapes them together to make this flimsy end product. The isolation Smith's character suffers, the conversations with his dog is reminiscent of of Castaway where Hanks talks to his football. A deadly virus spreads and almost destroy civilisation hmmn... there have been several recent films similar to this. 28 days later? 28 weeks later? Yes, yes I know it is based on a graphic novel but this film still feels wholly unnecessary. Clearly it was made because of the success of those recent films and it makes it feel all too familiar and unoriginal.

The best thing about it is the special effects- seeing an abandoned New York is pretty cool. Unfortunately that doesn't give the film any substance and the second half of the film descends into mediocrity. Seeing how Smith's character deals with being the last man gives the film a little life. However, it soon becomes a silly horror/thriller with zombie vampires *yawn* that has been done a lot (and recently!) The ending is predictable and tiresome. Will Smith's performance is okay but has a pretty poor script to work with. This film is a waste of time apart from some impressive effects as previously mentioned (apart from the cartoon zombies) In conclusion, *yawn*

1.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, 2 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Russell Howard Live [DVD] (DVD)
Russel Howard struggles to be funny on Mock the Week (poor man's have I got news for you) so I was a little bewildered as to how he could hold a stage. The answer is he can't- he merely highlights the void in quality comedians about these days. He makes me want to take a cheese grater to my face.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother, 29 Dec. 2008
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Virtual Springfield (Video Game)
This had the potential to be pretty cool, an exploration of Springfield- sound fun? It's not, this isn't really a game it's just clicking on people or objects to see them perform an action. It will take 30 minutes tops to get through all of the content that is even remotely interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertaining, dark and chaotic, 23 Dec. 2008
I thought this was a great film, with some truly stunning action scenes. it is so stylishly done and superbly cast and I surprised myself when I realised I liked it more that the original film (which I love!) Heath Ledger is fantastic as the sinisterly nihilistic psychopath the Joker, Christian Bale makes a great Batman and they are supported by a pretty flawless cast. This is much darker than the original films and quite different really so this should be considered before viewing. It is far better than Batman Begins, and puts other 'superhero' films to shame because it has many more dimensions and explores far more interesting themes.
