3.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray Format Potential Largely Wasted, 27 Mar 2013
This review is of the Blu ray version. The music of Sigur Ros stands alone and as an album Valtari is great. The concept behind this project tho' is interesting, but the filmic results are variable and I think some detract rather than add to the music. To compliment the ambience of Sigur Ros' music is no mean feat. From a technical view the Blu ray version was below par for this medium in terms of both the film transfer quality, and particularly the sound. Being a big Sigur Ros fan I had high expectations for this project(as you would), and I've got to say I was somewhat disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Never Dies Reinvented on Bluray, 17 Feb 2012
This new production of Love Never Dies and its presentation on Bluray HD is brilliant with stunning cinematography. The new production is taut and fluid and the storyline and characters interactions make a lot more sense. The humanity(and frailty)of the characters is developed, particularly the Phantom. The production has strong musical integrity and the Australian cast across the board is brilliant. The DVD/BD is set to inject the production with a new international life.
Seen the London production and twice in Australia, and have the Bluray. Many people have dismissed the original LND production and the subsequent reworked UK version based on what seems to be a fear that somehow the original "Phantom of the Opera" was compromised. This Australian version has not been seen in London - it was redesigned, choreographed and generally reinvigorated in Australia to huge success on the stage. Hopefully people will view this DVD(or better still BD) with an open mind, and that the success this version has already had, will encourage Lloyd-Webber to open it on Broadway and maybe even again in the UK. As far as the DVD goes, I have no doubt this will be considered one of the best filmed versions of a staged production!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite Nightmare!!, 19 Dec 2011
I keep buying copies of this film in every format as they are released. The latest 3D version is as amazing as ever. Tim Burton's magical world combines perfectly the delicate, vulnerable and sinister all on the one palate. A must have in any collection. The 3D BD version is great and shows the care taken in transferring the material to 3D. 3D suits the animation perfectly. But having said that I would happily watch it in any format!

4.0 out of 5 stars Put Your Brain in Neutral ..., 8 Jun 2011
This review is from: Piranha 3D (Blu-ray 3D) (Blu-ray)
Viewed in Blu-ray 3D. Put your brain in neutral and get set for a bootylicious, gore filled hoot of a movie!! Seems like some of the "reviewers" took this movie a tad too seriously when in fact it took the p**s out of itself. It delivered what it promised and didn't pretend to be anything it wasn't - it was just a great spoof of the B grade shlock horror flicks that were characteristic of the 80's.
Best seen in 3D on a big screen - the effects in general were very good and made the most of the 3D medium. Picture quality of the Blu-ray was very good and atmospheric soundtrack was effectively delivered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Far From Miserable - Well Maybe Except For Nick!, 4 Dec 2010
Well just watched the Blu-ray version and generally enjoyed the concert; the orchestration and staging were particularly great. The ambience and theatrical relevance of the evening was nicely captured. All the performances probably apart from Nick Jonas were generally very good in what was essentially a concert setting in a large arena. We didn't know who Nick Jonas was while watching the DVD and kept wondering who this guy was with the "out of sync" emotions to the material, and clearly not to the standard of the other performers. A bit of research however revealed all. The Javert was a bit ordinary and didn't quite bring the spine tingling, hairs on end, impact of Philip Quast singing Stars, in my opinion the best song in the show. The 4 Valjeans together in the finale was great, the speech by Cameron was cheesy, and all the youth trailing in at the end was probably superfluous. The verbal acknowledgement of the school performances would have been enough. The sound quality of the Blu-ray was very good but the picture quality was variable with digital "processing effects" dominating some scenes, exaggerated by the stage lighting. But overall a must to buy for the fans, and for others, worth renting for the experience.

Andrea Bocelli: Vivere - Live In Tuscany [Blu-ray]
Andrea Bocelli: Vivere - Live In Tuscany [Blu-ray]
Dvd ~ Andrea Bocelli

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning setting, Stunning Performance, 29 July 2010
Brilliant concert, musically a well balanced program set in an amazing outdoor amphitheatre environment near Lajatico, Bocelli's home town. As well as Andrea of course, Lang Lang, Laura Pausini and Chris Botti were standouts. But it was all good!
The sound was good in 5.1 (you have to select - selection is a little odd on the disc menu). Picture was generally sharp and captured the magic of the setting and lighting effects. There were some sections however in the blu-ray where the picture quality was outlined fuzzy...not sure what that was about, but seemed to be when shot with certain cameras which may not have been hi-def.
Recommended - but 1 star off for the fuzzy photography parts which really show up on Blu-ray. Back stage segments/interviews were interesting. Hopefully they will release the rest of the series. The 2010 Concert has just finished. I WANT TO GO THERE!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Series 2, 21 Jan 2010
Marginally not as good as Series 1 but still pretty good.
The themes in this series are more intense and darker in mood.
The lead character Simon is portrayed a little too camp(is there such a thing!?) and comes off constantly as rather "whiney" and sarcastic. The character of "Kylie" and other key cast members however are strongly developed from the previous series. As with the first series a good musical soundtrack.
Hopefully there will be a Series 3.
Disappointed that the DVD has absolutely NO extras like making of, behind the scenes, interviews, commentaries etc!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album - but a warning - inaccurate description of product!, 27 Sep 2009
Warning to prospective buyers - this is a two disc CD, NOT a 5 disc boxed set as in the Amazon description (as I found out when I received my copy).
It is the new single album + a short concert excerpt DVD .
However as all Jame's albums are - its great. Discover his earlier ones if you haven't already!
