The Angel Bug
The Angel Bug
Price: £2.70

5.0 out of 5 stars Angel Bug, 5 Jan. 2014
This review is from: The Angel Bug (Kindle Edition)
Based mainly at the famous Eden Project in Cornwall this book is a mix of science (at a very easy to understand level), and science fiction. Told via the daily writings of botanists Luke and Gabbi it follows the discovery and exploitation of something found growing in the Eden Biomes. The book is both well written and clear with the daily format making it easy to follow developments as they occur. The various characters are very much unique individuals with their own motivations, loves and weaknesses and are all highly credible. This is a thought provoking story with a sting in the tail and something I'm likely to re-read in the future.

Another excellent work from Ann Foweraker which, from it's first page, draws it's reader into the life of it's two main characters, clean cut teenager Alex and his teacher mother Josephine. The writing is very descriptive throughout and there is indeed one passage that may leave you imagining a nasty smell for a little while! The dilemmas faced by the law abiding when confronted with evidence of wrong doing are briefly explored before the pair head off to Cornwall to escape the problems of London, only to find that Cornwall also has its bad guys. The story is well told and is an interesting yet undemanding read that evokes memories of holidays past and shows human nature at its best and worst. A book I'm happy to recommend to others.

Entirely in keeping with Ann's other works this book bears comparison with a Jeffery Archer short story. The characters are very well drawn and the scenarios described totally believable. The book is very tightly written with not an unnecessary word in the whole piece yet the picture presented is complete and draws in the reader. All in all this is an excellent tale with an ending that raised a smile from me. A must read.

Some Kind of Synchrony

An interesting and unusual story that's well written and evokes sympathy and admiration for the main character, Faith. Faith works as a secretary in a newspaper office, an intelligent woman who never had the chance to reach her full potential she is trapped in a violent loveless marriage. Since childhood she has escaped the realities of life by inventing stories for herself sometimes sharing them with others. One day, to please her old friend (Diane with whom she shares the daily commute), she starts to tell a much longer tale into which she weaves something of the character of her fellow workers and the two friends. Eventually the story is complete and, thanks to Diane surreptitiously recording and typing it, is accepted for publication, and that is when things begin to go wrong. Things start to happen to her co-workers that bear a remarkable similarity to horrifying events in the book. Scared that by committing her thoughts to paper she has somehow brought about these distressing events, and fearing worse to come, Faith tries to withdraw from the publishing contract only to find that her husband has already spent the advance. I'll not say any more here to avoid spoilers - to find out what happens you will just have to read and enjoy the book as I did!

Divining the Line

This review is from: Divining the Line (Kindle Edition)
This story is extremely well written, the characters are well drawn and you can feel yourself wanting things to turn out well for them. The story revolves around Perran a Cornishman with the gift of divining who has for years felt inexorably pulled towards something somewhere but the `where and what' are a mystery to him. He sets off on what was planned to be a one month trip of discovery and meets Liz. Now unfolds a tale of love, death and reunion.
Sensitively written and with what was, for me, a brilliant last paragraph, this one had me captivated from beginning to end.

I came across the works of this author quite by chance and have now bought and read all of her works which probably says even more than the above about what I think of the books!

This main board was purchased in November 2012 and died this week. There is no boot or beeps, all other parts tested ok.
Not very good for a branded company's product. I should have known something was wrong weeks ago while in guarantee, loads of blue screens and blank screens during boot up. I won't buy another one of these and certainly won't recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars !st class little amplifier., 2 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I needed a small low powered amplifier for a specific purpose so I purchased two of them. Both kits were complete and constructed within 30 minutes.
The spec sheet quotes a minimum supply of 8 volts but they happily function on a 6v sealed lead acid battery.
A nice kit and a nice amplifier that fulfills my requirements perfectly.

Had to return the coat as the supposed Medium size was far too small compared to other Regatta coats I have purchased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not work for me., 14 Dec. 2013

I give this adapter a 3 rating because it does not work fully with my HD2600 Graphics card, the crappy drivers do not allow audio down the HDMI cable so for me it's useless.
I have replaced the Graphics card for a Geforce GT630 and just use the 10mtr HDMI cable.

I read all the reviews and don't understand all the negative comments.
I have the 10mtr cable connected to a Geforce GT630 Graphics card and a Panasonic HDTV, I am very pleased with the result, good colour and sound, in fact perfect.
The best benefit of using this cable is not having to convert videos and write a dvd, it's a simple matter of using the Gom player and duplicate the desktop to the hdmi port, brilliant.
We also use it on a Dell 1525 laptop without any issues.
