4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, 23 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Mechanix (Audio CD)
This is an underrated album from UFO and, in particular, the drummer is particularly under-valued by fans and critics alike.

The songwriting is good, the guitar work is excellent and there is a good mix of melodic and hard, furious rock eg 'Doing it all for you' and 'Dreaming'.

Phil Mogg liked to write about 'kids cruising on the block', but his voice here is very good. Good, old-fashioned hard rock by a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars In your face hard rock, 15 Aug. 2007

For me, 'Lovedrive' is the greatest hard rock album ever , and 'Tokyo Tapes' comparable to the classic live albums of Thin Lizzy and Aerosmith.

This album, however, is not far behind , and is superior in terms of the heavy guitar work and the production. In addition, Klaus Meine has a beautiful hard rock voice and the melodies will drift through your brain incessantly.

I regularly listen to this by lying on my sofa , eyes closed, from Track 1 through to the last track. A bit special.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classis blues hard rock, 3 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Badlands (Audio CD)
This is an excellent debut CD from Jake E. Lee's band and it features his fast playing and the excellent vocals of the late Ray Gillen.

It opens with the hard rock of 'High wire', where the band are reminiscent of Led Zeppelin , and each track is full of raw hard rock. On occasions, he sounds like Coverdale, but Ray Gillen was a real talent in his own right.

I play this repeatedly on my car stereo. Excellent.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dip in class, 27 July 2007

I am a big Gotthard fan but, after the three previous releases, this is a big disappointment. 'Gotthard', 'Dial hard' and 'G' were melodic, hard rock albums and they were also willing to include the odd impressive power ballad. However, this sounds too much like Bon Jovi to me and I was glad when, with 'Human Zoo', they re-introduced their rocking approach.

The songs have catchy melodies , but I prefer 'G',
'Dial hard', 'Gotthard', 'Lip Service', 'Domino effect' and the outstanding live CD 'Made in switzerland'. These releases epitomize Gotthard's true class as a hard rock band.

Along with Aerosmith's 'Live Bootleg and Thin Lizzy's 'Live and Dangerous, this is one of the few classic live recordings.

The production sound is unbelievable, given the recording era, and the guitar work is raw and wild. Keith Moon's drumwork is hypnotic.

Every track has something to offer. Play it on '11' !

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 18 July 2007

I bought 'Lovedrive' on vinyl in 1979 and it is still my favourite hard rock album of all time - ever. It is hard , fast, well-produced and the vocalist, Klaus Meine, is a legend. The guitar work is exceptional.

Each track is a classic. 'Lovedrive', 'Loving you Sunday morning' and 'Can't get enough' are the epitome of hard rock while 'Always somewhere' and 'Holiday' are classic ballads. 'Is there anybody there ?' possesses a reggae under-beat. Buy this and you won't regret it. It will be played at my funeral !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic hard rock, 18 July 2007

This is a classis slab of hard rock - great riffs, melodies, vocals - and offers some strong ballads. The highlights are 'Sister Moon', 'Make my day' and 'In the name', but there are no 'fillers'.

They sound like Whitesnake or AC/DC on occasions, but they do possess their own individual style. Interestingly, the live version of 'In the name' on 'Made in Switzerland' is a haunting ballad and not the high-octane version on this studio album.

This is a 'must buy' CD from a great hard rock act. You won't be disappointed !

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic live album, 1 Mar. 2007
This was the first Gotthard album I bought and it served as a great introduction to a fine hard rock band.

I first heard the classic 'Mountain Mama' on MTV in 1994 and I literally spent years, pre Amazon, trying to get a copy of it. Unsurprisingly, this live CD contains other classic Gotthard cuts , including 'Sister Moon', 'All we are', 'Dream on','Heaven' etc. I rank it alongside other live classics, such as 'Live and Dangerous'.

It inspired me to buy all the Gotthard studio albums, but this CD epitomises the raw but melodic class of this great swiss export. The DVD is excellent too.
