An interesting and insightful look at our brains, what they're used for, how we use them and what happens when they go wrong, an easy and enjoyable read, very entertaining and full of facts, a very interesting chapter on the brains evolution ( a subject I find fascinating). The only unfortunate thing about this book is that it won't be read by the people who need this type of education.

1.0 out of 5 stars Every time a fool speaks he is advertising his own ignorance !, 11 Feb. 2016
This book purports that scientific discoveries by man are supported by the scripture in the Quoran, just like when Einstien predicted gravitational waves all those years ago it's only recently that science can prove it, so instead of hard working scientists making all the effort of research to find these discoveries in the first place, why don't they just read the Quoran and find out what the next big discovery will be and work backwards to prove it ? Makes sense to me. Faith is one thing science is another. (Dr.Zakir Naik has been banned from entering the UK).

5.0 out of 5 stars The King of the Bohemian's masterly swan song ., 25 Jan. 2016

I think I would like to remember Bowie as an artist that instigated my eclectic taste in music. I purchased "Diamond Dogs" when I was a young teenager and "Heroes" when it was released in 77 I would of been twelve or thirteen, I was obsessed with his music, his image and his fantastic voice, (what a range just listen to Golden Years) never fearing criticism Bowie was experimental and not always commercially successful he was prepared to push the boundaries. Black star encompacies all that we love in Bowie, it's new territory but with familiar traits, there is that typical Sax sound that Bowie uses on "Tis a pity she was a whore" a track that wouldn't look out of place on "Black Tie White Noise" and the harmonica rift from "A New Career In A New Town" makes an appearance on " I can't give everything away" the lyrics are cryptic and touching and I dare say that the title track Blackstar will be pondered over for years to come to discover it's ambiguous meaning. Although we heard less and less from Bowie in recent years he was such an important figure in popular culture I doubt if we will ever see the likes of him again. A fantastic album and probably his best.

I purchased this for my wife along with the scented candle, I can't stop rubbing it into my hands and face the smell is wonderful, it's sort of sweet but a bit like church incense, forget Brut 33 and smelling like Henry Cooper I smell like a Preraphelite victorian.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not in the New Years honours list ? World leaders need to pay attention !, 31 Dec. 2015
Is there no end to this woman's talents ? Psychic, astrologer and crystal healing genius who's research in the field has relieved us from no less than 1200 ailments, Judy has done it again, she's going to heal the world. Most researchers in their chosen field probably only come up with one or maybe two discoveries in a lifetimes work, just think of women like Rosalind Franklin and Ada Lovelace, lightweights ! I just hope that the scientific community and more importantly the political establishment take notice of Judy soon.... For humanities sake.

Darwin Machines and the Nature of Knowledge
Darwin Machines and the Nature of Knowledge
by H.C. Plotkin
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Universal Darwinism, epistemology and the fecundity of memes., 23 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Quite heavy going for a popular science book and I definatley think you need to read Dawkins " The Selfish Gene" before hand, as I would of thought it was part inspiration for this book. The main subject of this book is the philosophy of epistemology, the understanding of knowledge and how it evolves, how it's used, and it's limitations, the book also covers a chapter on "Memes" a term coined by Dawkins in 1976 to explain the phenomenon of ideas and information replicating through the medium of our culture, Plotkin expands on this theme and exposes some fundamental differences between Memes and genes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Daft old bat exploiting the vulnerable., 12 Dec. 2015
Some people maybe very good at reading people's gestures, nuances and expressions, teasing information from them through interigation disguised as genuine concern, that coupled with the willingness of the participant to be read and a wanting to believe for the sake of hope, a process I find repellant and disgraceful, shame on you Sally Morgan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the research done?, 7 Nov. 2015
Judy Hall has written numerous books on the healing properties of crystals, unfortunately there is no evidence whatsoever to back this up, if you claim that a crystal can cure you of a particular ailment you need to back this up with research and evidence, evidence is provided by case studies and that means clinical trials, clinical trials take a long time and use lots of volunteers, so the next time you pick up a Judy Hall book and it claims to cure 1200 ailments ask yourself how was this discovered, or am I missing the point and Judy Hall is an amazingly hard working woman and like many hard working women in the field of medicine and science she is not being recognised ? Out of all the reviews I have read, I have not read one that has purported to cure an ailment. Another point I would like to make is that I have contacted various crystal institutions and asked the same questions and as of yet no reply. COME ON JUDY, TELL ME HOW IT WORKS ?

1.0 out of 5 stars Flogging a dead horse, what's the point ?, 25 Oct. 2015
This review is from: Come Fly With Me (Audio CD)
If you are one of those people who like to have your mind made up for you when it comes to music, this is the album for you, the concept is a tired old rehash that Peter Andre has decided to follow whilst being given a third chance at re establishing his fragile career (Strickly come Dancing) following a well trodden path after Robin William's "Swing when your Winning" ten years previous (at least Robbie has a bit of charisma) and Rod Stewart's The great American song book (at least Rods got a bit of a voice) and now it's the turn of Mr.Andre to wear the trilby and grace us all with his nasle interpretation of Frank, this will appeal to the same type of people who purchased Des O'Conner's attempt of a crooners album many years before, you know, your aunts your Gran and Miss Jones, but it will soon make its way to the back of the cd drawer with the El Divo cd and its price will drop and eventually be forgotten (at least he had a go) really what is he trying to add to these songs ? do you remember the Barry Manilow sings Sinatra album or even the Bod Dylan attempt, if you want to hear these songs at their best I suggest you buy the originals and gain a bit of integrity. Beware cheap imitations, no one does Sinatra like Sinatra.

1.0 out of 5 stars How does it work ? Where is the research done ? Who discovered it and how ?, 14 Oct. 2015
Will someone please explain to me how this works because I am lost, now this book suggests that it has the crystal cure for 1,250 ailments, now that is a very tall order and this is the reason why, suppose there is a crystal that can cure insomnia ( incidentally I don't believe there is, but just for example) how would Judy go about discovering it ? First you would need about fifty to a hundred volunteers suffering from insomnia and then you would have to present each volunteer with the same crystal and see what was the outcome, during a period of time you would have to interview each volunteer to see if the crystal given improved or not improved their condition, you would then have to provide a different crystal and wait a period of time and collect the results, you would have to repeat the process over and over until you came up with the most effective crystal IE the one most volunteers felt improved their sleep patterns then you would have to see if anything else in the volunteers routine improved their sleep patterns, you would then proceed to blind trials and double blind trials using placebo crystals to achieve any sort of outcome, this process would have to be then repeated 1250 times for all the prescriptions in this book, that amount of research would put any major drug company to shame, not bad for a one man band ? Now is Judy a fraud or is she up there with the likes of Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, Maria Mitchell, Rosalind Franklin, Jennifer Moyle or any other hard working scientist, remember the struggle women have had in the field of scientific discovery, or has Judy Hall's "discoveries" been unrecognised and a terrible injustice been done. P.s I have contacted three so called crystal healing institutions including ACHO and asked the same questions, as yet no reply I can only conclude they have something to hide.
