This Tv looks neat and has a decent picture and sound, and Android provides interesting an useful extra functions.

However software updates have not improved the rather sluggish/unreliable interfaces, occasional but persistent crashes, and that you would need to redo settings just to use more than one of the main advertised functions, which are themselves currently still flawed: Freeview tuner (the picture flashes on and off when changing between some screens), satellite tuner (there is no Freesat EPG), Youview (clumsy), and Recording to hard drive (which will not be implemented until the end of March 2016, unless it is delayed again)..

We got it in July 2015, mainly for HDD recording and satellite Tv, so it has been a let down for us, while recording will only be available on Freeview and if you don't also want to use the satellite tuners which have no Freesat EPG, or the YouView feature, which we found to be poor so disabled it. At least that may have minimised some of the glitches which have been supposed, by others, to result from using Youview but it does not bode well for recording to hard drive!

In summary, the software currently remains rather unstable and don't bother with it for satellite TV reception, for recording to hard drive, or for YouView, or if you want to try out more than one of those features in the same setup :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny but handy, 20 Sept. 2015
Being so small it is a bit fiddly, but also very handy for occasional use. We found that it works with Sony 8039C Android Tv, Samsung F8000 Smart Tv, and Hudl2. It has a touchpad, mouse buttons on the shoulders and a backlight. The built in battery is quick to charge by USB, and the price is most reasonable :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars some extras were worthwhile, 28 Aug. 2015

The Slybox is MXV S805 which is often sold at higher prices and we used it with Samsung and Sony smart Tvs. With a wired internet speed of only 3.5mbps, and after some trial and error, it soon started to work well for streaming up to 720p.

The installation includes ShowBox for movies and shows, and an older Kodi 'Custom TVMC Edition'. When playing a movie or show, for for the picture to be displayed we needed to do: TVMC>System>Settings>Video (with setting level Advanced): In 'decoding method' - Acceleration 'accelerated' was ticked, but the three settings 'allow amcodec', '...libstagefright, and '...mediacodec' had to be UN-ticked.

After trying it out for a bit and when some glitches set in, we did a factory reset in the Launcher's Settings> Other Settings, to get rid of the original installation (with annoying adverts in Mediabox), and then, in Kodi, updated and set everything up with: System>File manager>Add source, typed http://fusion.tvaddons.ag, and called it 'Fusion', and clicked 'OK'. Then >System, right click on it, > addons> Install from zipfile> Fusion> 'start here'> plugin.video.hubwizard. Then Programs> program addons> choosing android.

The original remote did work the mouse just with arrow keys and was otherwise fine but seemed not to allow any text input except for the digits, so we added a £1.15 mini USB Blue tooth dongle http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0013BFQUE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 which allowed a £13.50 generic mini keyboard to be connected by Blue tooth http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00N2JMFU4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 which works really well. It was all excellent value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seemed to be good value and very easy to fit...but, 22 Oct. 2014

This seemed to be good value and very easy to fit. The chimes are peculiar jingles but we found some which were quite pleasant. Range was more than good enough for our bungalow and the speakers were loud enough. The transmitter of one example of the set failed within 6 weeks and the second one has also failed within a few weeks....

One For All URC 8602 Xsight colour Universal remote

4.0 out of 5 stars Get them while you can!, 22 Oct. 2014

Now they have been discontinued, the Xsight Touch (18 devices, Charging system, touch screen, tilt operated back light, and RF capability with its own IR extender accessory) and Xsight Colour (18 devices, 3 AAA batteries, hard buttons for LCD, button actuated back light, no RF) or their respective equivalents: ARRX18/Nevo3 and ARRX15/Nevo2, can be found at prices as low as £22 and £15, which could now seem to makes them exceptional colour screen bargains. They are functionally similar to Logitech's well known 900 and One, which have also been discontinued.

The buttons are not especially prominent, and the Colour clones are rather heavy. Touch versions have a touch screen and a li-ion battery and charger. With Colour etc. battery life of the three AAs is reasonable because the LCD needs a button press to light up the screen but connection to PC uses the batteries more quickly and the voltage of rechargeables is inadequate. The Colour clones' hard buttons for LCD functions are easier to use, while the hard buttons of all models work when pressed with the back light off and it's duration can be adjusted.

The activity/device-based configurations are indeed similar to Harmony's but the Xsights lose out by not 'remembering' the current power state of each device. It is more significant that with both brands, except with Harmony 650/700 which have three hard activity buttons, you cannot go directly from one activity/device to another. Instead a button must be pressed to bring up a menu on the screen and another button, or two if needed to change screens, to select an activity or device. Slicker operation at a reasonable price is offered by screen-free remotes with device changing commands in macros, such as URC-6440 Simple 4, which can be upgraded to eight devices using its model-specific extender and JP1, see below.

I found the Harmony stand-alone software for the 900, and MyHarmony (recently improved) for the One etc, to be considerably better than 'EZ-RC' which is provided for the Xsight clones. That is limited to MS Windows XP, Vista, and 7, and has a tendency to more troublesome glitches. The remote-based facilities of Xsights are relatively basic and by no means make up for that, while sets of commands provided by the database for individual devices are less complete than Harmony's.

The saving grace for Xsights is that the supplied USB lead also gives access on PC to the excellent community based and continually improving JP1 system, for much greater flexibility and unlimited complete upgrades, see web address<http://www.hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page>. At reduced prices *but only with JP1*, Xsights are recommended for their smart appearance and large clear colour screens.
