An excellent book for those who are new to float fishing which also includes numerous useful diagrams and pictures which other books do not. Well worth reading and is a must for novices like myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars DUNDEE IS A DANGEROUS PLACE, 14 Dec. 2012

I DOWNLOADED THIS BOOK FOR MY KINDLE AND HAVE ENJOYED READING IT OVER THE LAST TWO MONTHS. LIKE THE PREVIOUS DEAD WOOD THE SETTING IS DUNDEE BUT THE WHOLE FEEL OF THIS STORY REVOLVES AROUND AN ART GALLERY WORKERS GRIEF AND REVENGE, ALTHOUGH YES THERE IS ANOTHER DELUSIONAL KILLER ON THE LOOSE. THERE ARE MANY SUB PLOTS IN THIS STORY WHERE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS COME TOGETHER TO GIVE THE READER A GOOD INSIGHT INTO PEOPLE WHO YOU WOULD LOATHE OR WOULD HAVE SYMPATHY WITH IN REAL LIFE. YOU WILL NOT VIEW YOUR LOCAL DEPARTMENT STORE IN THE SAME WAY AGAIN AS IT IS A PRIVATELY RUN STORE THAT IS THE BACKDROP FOR MANY OF THE SCENES. ANOTHER EXCEPTIONAL READ WHICH WILL KEEP YOU TURNING THE PAGES.

I READ THIS BOOK IN IT'S PAPERBACK FORM AND I WOULD PUT IT IN THE HIGHLY RATED CATEGORY OF BOOKS TO READ IN THIS GENRE. THE STORY IS SET IN DUNDEE AND DESPITE HAVING NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA CHRIS BRINGS THE SETTINGS TO LIFE SO THAT THE READER IS ABLE TO VISUALISE EXACTLY WHERE THINGS ARE HAPPENING AND THIS INCLUDES SOME SCENES WHERE THERE IS SOCIAL DEPRIVATION AND IMBALANCES OF CONTROL AND POWER. CHRIS INTRODUCES US TO CHARACHTERS THAT ARE BELIEVABLE AND DISTURBING INCLUDING A LOCAL CRIME OVERLORD AND HIS HENCHMEN, A PSYCHOTIC KILLER AND POLICE OFFICERS WHO ARE DEFINITELY DAMAGED GOODS. THE STORY IS TOLD IN A WELL CONTRUCTED AND UNPREDICTABLE WAY SO THAT IT REMAINS A BOOK THAT WILL KEEP YOU ENGAGED NOT ONLY WITH THE STORYLINE BUT ALSO WITH THE DESIRE TO SLIP FURTHER INTO THE MURDEROUS MIRE. I FELT THE STORY IS CERTAINLY WITHIN THE CRIME GENRE BUT AT TIMES WAS SLIPPING INTO DARKER TERRITORY, NOT UNLIKE NOVELS BY THOMAS HARRIS. THIS IS AN EXCELLANT READ THAT THE AUTHOR SHOULD FEEL VERY PROUD OF.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANALOGUE SYNTH HEAVEN, 10 Feb. 2012
This review is from: The Shape Of Things (Audio CD)
THE SHAPE OF THINGS BY JOHN FOXX AND THE MATHS IS THE SUPERB FOLLOWUP TO LAST YEARS REALEASE INTERPLAY WHICH RECEIVED WIDE SPREAD PRAISE AND DESERVEDLY SO. HERE WE HAVE WHAT I WOULD CALL PART TWO IN THE STORY WHICH AGAIN COMBINES VIVID WRITING SKILLS ALONG WITH EXCELLANT MUSICIANSHIP. JOHN FOXX IS A COMPETENT AND EXPERIENCED MUSCIAN BUT HE HAS OVER THE YEARS COLLABORATED WITH OTHER MUCISICIANS SUCH AS LOUIS GORDON TO GIVE US GREAT ALBUMS SUCH AS THE PLEASURES OF ELECTRICITY. WITH INTERPLAY AND THE SHAPE OF THINGS HE HAS JOINED WITH ANALOGUE SYNTH MASTER BENGE AND TOGETHER THEY ARE PRODUCING MUSIC WHICH RESONATES ACROSS MUSICAL GENRES SUCH AS 90'S INSPIRED DEEP ELECTRO - TECHNO MUSIC THROUGH TO EARLY SYNTHESIZER BASED MUSIC FROM THE 80'S AND LATE 70'S. THEY HAVE ACHIEVED THIS IN A WAY THAT MAKES THIS MUSIC VERY MUCH IN KEEPING WITH OUR TIMES BUT OFFEREING A RETROPECTIVE VIEW INTO THE PAST. THIS ALBUM COMES AS A TWO DISC SET THE FIRST OF WHICH FEATURES FOXX GIVING VOCALISATION TO SEVERAL TRACKS INTERSPERSED WITH SHORT INSTRUMENTALS. THE TRACKS REAR VIEW MIRROR AND A SHADOW OF THE MAN ARE REALLY WELL CONCEIVED. THE SECOND DISC CONTAINS REMIXED VERSIONS OF TRACKS FROM THE INTERPLAY ALBUM THE HIGHLIGHT OF WHICH HAS TO BE THE EXTENDED VERSION OF INTERPLAY WHICH IS SUPERB. THIS IS A WORTH WHILE PURCHASE TO ADD TO ANYONES COLLECTION OF JOHN FOXX MATERIAL BUT I FEEL IT'S APPEAL IS WIDER THAN HIS OWN FAN BASE. THIS ALBUM DOES HAVE A DARKER FEEL THAN THE INTERPLAY ALBUM HOWEVER THIS THE NATURE OF THE MAN - EVERCHANGING AND EMOTIVE.
