1.0 out of 5 stars Low capacity and dropping with every use, 12 Nov 2013

It arrived quickly from the seller. It fits in the Macbook Pro. After there, it all gets a little less good. Plug it in, and the Macbook pro (running 10.9) immediately says "Service Battery". Coconut Battery reports that the battery has a full capacity of 3785mAh, and a design capacity of 5,500. So it's only able to charge to 70%. I reset the SMC, zap the NVPRAM, give it a full recharge and... it still says service battery. I check it's at 100% of its capacity, and cycle the battery down to empty by running the machine, It lasts a little under 2 hours. Full recharge, and the capacity is now 3470mAh at 100% charged. it's lost 300mAh - nearly 10% - of capacity in 2 cycles.

The advert states this 60WH capacity, which at 10.8v is 5555mAh. It arrived with 3785mAh capacity, and has dropped to 3470 after 2 cycles. This really does not bode well.

The seller has refunded me, telling me they'll look into it and have just changed suppliers, but I would not recommend this battery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent platform study in its context, 14 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book examines the impact and legacy that the Commodore Amiga made and has left on the computing world, particularly from the perspective of how the Amiga deserves to be seen as the first multimedia computer. A common theme is the democratisation of high end functionality - whether music making, computer art, 3D, video production, ... - that the platform provided by giving access to (at the time) high end features on an affordable home computer.

I'd recommend this book to anyone with more than a passing interest in computer gaming and multimedia, as it really does show that the future was indeed here in 1985 with the launching of the Amiga 1000. Die hard Amiga fans will not find shocking revelations in here, however they will find insightful comment with well reasoned argument, and elucidation on a few seemingly trivial topics that illustrate just how closely tied into its custom chips the Amiga's software portfolio (and ultimate fate) was.

I particularly enjoyed how the book made me examine whether my admiration of the platform was purely due to nostalgia and a desire to go back to a simpler time, or whether the platform really was groundbreaking at the time and deserving of recognition: removing the rose tinted glasses, and measuring objectively, the Amiga was revolutionary.

A thoroughly enjoyable book for those who used or programmed the platform, and for those who wonder where the current state of the art came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect as a remote extender, too!, 26 Nov 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've put my Sky+ HD box (samsung manufactured, 2009) in a cupboard that stops the IR remote control working, so needed a solution. This works utterly brilliantly and is cheap. Connect to RF2, turn on RF2 power, run the IR receiver somewhere outside of the cupboard and... Job done! For Sky+ HD boxes, you access the installer menu by pressing Services then 0 0 1 select, other than that instructions are spot on.

For those in doubt as to whether this would work as an IR extender: yes, it does. It controls the whole Sky+ box, not just the stuff seen on the RF2 output. A downside is that this means if you're using it to extend the signal to another room and change the channel in that room, the picture on the main screen (if used) will change too, but there's better ways of sending video around the house than that.

For a remote extender, and for under a fiver, very highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound quality, superb value for money, 9 Feb 2009

I was shopping for a cheap ipod dock for my son to go with his ipod nano (3rd gen), and was quite frankly disappointed that everything under 25 sounded tinny and gutless.

This item came recommended instead of wasting 20 on an Aldi special offer. I am very, very, very pleased with it: for the money, or even three times the money, you will struggle to do better.

The IDS05 has two smaller midrange/tweeter drivers and a 4 inch subwoofer at the back: this sub really helps fill out the sound to be quite frankly astounding from the package!

If you want it to shake a room full of people it won't, but for a great value and great sounding ipod dock, complete with remote control, USB output and line input then you can't go wrong.
