4.0 out of 5 stars Decent romp, 2 Mar. 2014

Enjoyed this book, particularly the battle section, and the authors knowledge and recounting of Hannibals tactics in the field! Kane manoeuvres the reader towards a thrilling climax in the same way as the master battle planner at the heart of the story himself - expertly done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rediscovering the wonderful Harold Fry, 10 Oct. 2013

I remember hearing this story on radio four and being very moved by it. but enough time has since elapsed to have forgotten huge chunks of the tale. I was therefore delighted to rediscover this story.
It's a tremendously moving story. While Harolds walk starts out perhaps childishly allegorical, it deepens and. matures with ever step he takes.
Very well written, engaging, well defined and structured, this story appeals from start to finish. Characters are well created and while not physically defined, their inner turmoils - the crux of the tale - stand out strong and clear.
Loved it, wish I could read it again. Maybe I will!

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent read, 23 Sept. 2013

For a freebie, this was an ok enough read - nothing challenging, no complex plot or character development - just a simple read, and with enough pace in the action to make up for any lack of sophistication.
Took me back to some of the sci-fi books of my youth- a simple, star-borne romp, chronicling a heroic Praetorian's struggle with romance and revenge.
