The original comment on Bhagavat Purana, 12 May 2001
Srimad Bhagavatam is the natural commentary of Vedanta-sutra, the "cream" of the Vedic litterature. More than a book this is an encyclopedia of spiritual knowledge beautifully illustrated and bound.
This edition contains 12 books with about 800 pages, each one with the original sanskrit text, word-by-word translations and purport. The purports are very elaborate and refer specifically to the Vaishnava or Bhakti traditions. Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami has compiled the comments of the ancient sages and saints and translated them in a modern language, which makes it possible for the reader to adopt those ancient teachings in his daily life, even today. Even if the philosophy presented in this text is an ancient spiritual philosophy still because of its comments it is easily available to us modern people.
If you are interested in undestanding the Vedas this is definitelly the book for you. I have studied them for 20 years and still read them and find new enlightenment.
It is a living book of knowledge.
