Cycling to the Ashes: A Cricketing Odyssey From London to Brisbane

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable, 7 April 2014

A well written recollection of an epic journey, but one that's ever so slightly unfulfilling; maybe it's the inexperienced writing style or the randomness of the journey I'm not sure, but I expected slightly more. Still well worth a read though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, 13 Dec 2013

Words are inadequate to describe the utter waste of time this book represents. Seemingly written by a computer there is no discernible plot, no character development, no emotion. Give this book the widest possible berth.

A really enjoyable read, with sensible characters that a reader can relate to. A great change to read an adult fiction that treats its readers as adults. A follow-up wouldn't go amiss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Proof that nice people do win!, 28 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An entertaining read that shows just how tough the world of elite sport is, and a terrific illustration of just how grounded and genuinely nice Jessica is. Great to relive that amazing two weeks of London 2012 as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Dan Brown classic, 12 Oct 2013

A page-turner from start to finish, easy to read and quickly addictive. Here's hoping Robert Langdon book 5 is on the horizon!

4.0 out of 5 stars WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT Y O U GET, 21 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An interesting collection of well written pieces by the author, but because there's no attempt at putting them into post-election context they illustrate the misreading of the situation that all outside the Obama campaign made. Some of the lack of analysis of major events also jars; no mention of Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention or of Superstorm Sandy are especially jarring. A book I would suggest not to be read in isolation by anyone wanting the real story of the 2012 election.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome exposé of Britain's Watergate, 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Being an avid political junkie, and, as a Liverpool football supporter, a long-standing opponent of News International, I was eager to join the dots of all the phone-hacking stories and this book does it brilliantly. Tom Watson deserves immense credit for sticking with this despite all the obstacles placed in his path. I recommend this to anyone who believes in freedom and justice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, 10 Mar 2013

A slightly difficult read in that every character is hard, almost impossible, to like. The end however made the effort to get there worthwhile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to read after seeing the film, 1 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A light, easy read that should make you laugh out loud more than once. There are also enough changes to the film to make it worth reading even if you've seen Messrs Grant and Firth and Miss Zellwegger more than once.

Fluff for when you just want escapism. Somewhat predictable and a little short on details. Recommended for a quick read to pass a tedious journey.
